As a Japanese person, I’ve waited for AC to adapt a Japanese story, so I can play an epic story of a SAMURAI in Japan.
Now in current year, we don’t get a samurai but a forced diversity character that’s not a samurai, OR Japanese.
For context; the real historical Yasuke met Nobunaga for a year, then was sold back to the Jesuits and never obtained a rank as a samurai.

Not only that but they choose someone whose name literally means "Across Help" or to say foreign servant 弥助. He was only in Japan for about 15 months or less, was initially liked by Nobunaga for the color of his skin, thought it was a tattoo and forced him to scrub his skin to see if it would rub off. When Nobunaga died, he was called a slave and an animal and sent back to the Jessuits. Obviously they're going to go the route that maybe Yasuke is on the run after Nobunaga's death in this game, and maybe that's how we end up using him to avenge his daimyo but I mean.... Wasn't Nobunaga seen as a tyrant? Unless they make Yasuke switch sides during the rebellion but then who the hell is he fighting if Nobunaga lost.

Everybody really wanted an Assassins Creed game set in Japan for a LONG time because the AESTHETIC of the region at that time and AC as series and what it is about just fit like a glove. Everybody when thet pleaded with Ubi to make an AC set in Japan imagined playing as a covert japanese ninja who also happens to be an assassin. Or imagine if all ninja's were actually Templars and they could use the same tactics as you do for the first time in the series history. THAT is what people had in their heads when they thought "AC in Japan". Not a black samurai going around and clubbing other samurai over the head.
It's like if they inserted random black and asian people in Kingdom Come 2 that takes place in 15th century Bohemia AND made you play as one. Even if you had historical documents to prove there were some black people in the region, it's not representative of what that region was like in general and ruins the fantasy of going to that time period and immersing yourself in that world.

Here are the facts: Yasuke arrived in Japan in 1579 in service of the Italian Jesuit missionary Alessandro Valignano. He accompanied Valignano when the latter came to the Kyoto area in March 1581 and his appearance caused a lot of interest with the local people.
When Yasuke was presented to Oda Nobunaga, the Japanese Daimyō thought that his skin must have been coloured with black ink. Nobunaga had him strip from the waist up and made him scrub his skin. These events are recorded in a 1581 letter of the Jesuit Luís Fróis to Lourenço Mexia, and in the 1582 Annual Report of the Jesuit Mission in Japan, also by Fróis.
"When Nobunaga realized that the African's skin was indeed black, he took an interest in him."
According to a Japanese accounting of Yaskue states: On the 23rd of the 2nd month 1581, a black page came from the Christian countries. The man was healthy with a good demeanour and Nobunaga praised Yasuke's strength.
Some say that Yasuke could speak or was taught Japanese, and it is stated Nobunaga enjoyed talking with him. However, it is more likely that a Jesuit missionary translated for them, in order to control the dialogue as they were not ones to miss an opportunity to interact with Nobunaga in order to advance their mission.
Reportedly, Nobunaga's nephew gave him a sum of money at this first meeting, for his travels, and on 14 May, Yasuke departed for Echizen Province with Fróis and the other Christians.
During this trip, they met local warlords such as Shibata Katsutoyo, Hashiba Hidekatsu, and Shibata Katsuie, They returned to Kyoto on 30 May.
At some point, although when is not exactly clear, Yasuke entered Nobunaga's service.
Yasuke was also mentioned in the prototype of Shinchō ki owned by Sonkeikaku Bunko , the archives of the Maeda clan.
According to this, Yasuke was given his own residence and a short, ceremonial katana by Nobunaga. Nobunaga also assigned him the duty of weapon bearer (much to the annoyance of actual samurai)
Here is where the facts change to a more fantasised version of events: Nobunaga had a propensity for the unique, and he was particularly interested in all things foreign. Clearly he was fascinated by Yasuke, and this was documented to be to the chagrin of many of his top generals such as Akechi Mitsuhide, who is reported to have been disgusted by the site of Yasuke, and saw him as nothing more than a wild beast.
After the Battle of Tenmokuzan, Nobunaga led his force, including Yasuke, and inspected the former territory of the Takeda clan. So people make the assumption that Yasuke actually fought in this battle, and that he donned Samurai armour and fought as a samurai hero.
A sword bearer (Yasuke) stays behind with the general camp, near to the lord, they don't go out on the battlefield, and there is no record of Yasuke fighting any battle.
There is also no record of Yasuke receiving martial arts training, or use of the Japanese sword, either when in the service of Nobunaga or the years prior.
The truth is that his time with Nobunaga was limited, as they first met in 1581 and Oda Nobunaga was dead a year later. This is hardly enough time for Yasuke to be trained to be the great warrior.
Yasuke as a Samurai: Now for either commercial purpose, or some social equity rationale, some people attempt to equate Yasuke as a non Japanese Samurai in the same way the English sailor William Adams (Pilot) was later viewed.
However, Adams was actually presented Samurai status, and there is no record of Yasuke being bestowed similar Samurai status. The facts are that Oda Nobunaga made him a servant for a few months.
A few months... not a lifetime of service dedicated to serving his lord, ready to give his life in the service of the Oda.
Another fact that is clear; Yasuke was kept around as a talking piece, an oddity for Nobunaga to show off, much in the same way he enjoyed irking other Daimyo by showing them Azai Nagamasa's gold plated skull.
Despite modern versions of Yasuke, if he was this great Samurai some would have you believe, then it stands to reason that he would have either fought to the death at Honnoji but instead was alleged to have been taken by Mitsuhide troops soon after the Honnoji incident, but Akechi had his men return him to the Christian missionaries.
All that is known about the fate of Yaskue , is that he was seen with the Christian Missionaries after Nobunagas death and reportedly fled the country soon after.
So while people may attempt to change the story of Yasuke to suit their agenda, the truth is that such blatantly false attempts to rewrite history are pure revisionism and nothing more.
Faking history because it makes you "feel good" does nothing but a disservice to all students of the culture, the Japanese nation and the historical record.
In fiction i believe it is 100% fine to take these liberties but the amount of people who believe these stories as fact is shocking

Yasuke served Oda Nobunaga as soldier. Yasuke was not a Samurai, but a weapon bearer. I.e. he was allowed to wear a weapon, but he was not granted the status Samurai, nor was he a nobility (which requires Japanese blood). This is a common mistake.
Yasuke came to Japan with the Nanban slave traders (Portuguese). They sold him to Oda Nobunaga who accepted him as slave. He granted him the status of an weapon bearer, which resulted in a rather good position for Yasuke.Yasuke served Oda in some battles unti the Honnō-ji Incident.
The Honnō-ji Incident was the assassination of Oda Nobunaga at the Honnō-ji temple in Kyoto on 21 June 1582. Nobunaga was betrayed by his general Akechi Mitsuhide during his campaign to consolidate centralized power in Japan under his authority. Mitsuhide ambushed the unprotected Nobunaga at Honnō-ji and his eldest son Oda Nobutada at Nijō Palace which resulted in both committing seppuku.
After Nobunaga was defeated by by the Samurai lord Akechi Mitsuhide, Yasuke was captured and likely killed by his troops. Akechi Mitsuhide allegedly called him a non-human animal. Akechi Mitsuhide, next to many others, disliked any foreign presence on the Japanese archipelago. Additionally, Akechi Mitsuhide disliked Oda Nobunaga, who disrespected the imperial court and did not pay as much interest in protecting traditional Japanese values as others, especially Akechi Mitsuhide.
    Akechi Mitsuhide
After this, no historical mentions of Yasuke exist anymore. While some suggest that he was deported from Japan, most suggest that he got killed.

The information says that he actually was kicking some ass and was ensured his safety if he surrendered. Akech dehumanized him but we don't know what came of him after, could be he did keep his promise and deport him.
We don't know his true fate. Could be he actually escaped captivity and left the country on his own terms too.

Thing is, why do we even need a Samurai? The most fitting thing for an assassin is definitely a ninja.
I don‘t know why they didn‘t just pick one of the most obvious historical people for an assassin. Hattori Hanzō, probably the most famous Ninja of all. And there were many more famous Shinobi in that era.
Yasuke really existed, but it kinda breaks the immersion of the game when you’re not playing a Japanese person, especially as Assassins are meant to blend in with the people. No offense, but being one of the rare non-Japanese people probably isn’t helpful if you want no attention

    "samurai"が初めて英語として確認されたのは1727年のことである
Term "Samurai" in the english speakers first arrived at 1727. Wiki
To start with, the term meaning of Samurai, is different before and after Edo period.
After Edo, because it became much more peaceful age, decreasing the overall average number for warriors need, Samurai became a term to entitle all Bushis.
But before changing, including the game setting period, "Samurai" specifcly meant "Higher ranks among Bushi" closer to that of "Daimyo", basically meant like "Baron" in Western Caste systems. Bloods are important, or it had to get acknowledge by upper caste, or even nobles' recognitions to become one.
Did Nobunaga have the right to make him a "Bushi"? Yes, and which he might have done so, ,, only if Yasuke went through the same traing process for average Bushi ranks also did taking on average about 8 years. Yasuke stayed in Japan about 3years, probably, if not even shorter since Nobunaga died after 2years he met Yasuke.
Now had Nobunaga made him a "Samurai"? -Absolutely not. That would have meant a mockery on all of his non-Samurai Bushi subordinates. Even if he participated in a war and had killed every single enemy leaders, the highest he could achieve would have been "Bushi" rank.
Also very simple quick question that I had of the series.
"Why is the main character anot assasin, when the title is literally Assasins's Creed?"
Samurai or Bushis are basically Western Knight . Kunoichi's good, why isn't the partner Ninja? I don't think Samurais landed surprising attack on citizen, middle of day under the sun お天道様の下....
Also Japan has been angry, YES. But not actualy about the main character. I mean it doesn't quite make sense ofcourse, but no one accepts it anyways. So that isn't the point we waste our time.
It's a simple facts about misinformation of our cultures.
Below are for any UBI members if you are watching this.
    1. Samurais would have to Seppuku(Suicidal Stomach Cutting, Harakiri), after killing citizens without officially recognized correct reasoning. Which is basically brought to judicial ranks.
    2. Tsuru(Cranes, White Birds), Susuki(Gracillus, Yellow plants), Sakura(Cherry blossoms, Pink flowers), Denen(the farms), cannot co-exist due to different seasons they are available to watch. These represents our respects toward 4 Seasons we have and climate change we appreciate. Unless there are Storyline reasoning please be careful more. It basically shows your lack of research.
    3. UBI mentioned that the graphics are self made plus AI. Very well checked. hmm Our fellow Japanese have found 3 official stolen photos which requires licence to use, all of them not even realising they were infiltrated license( which one of them was checked later the PV). Trucks and Guardrails in faraway background, ,, like , right we Japanese were so advanced that we had Automobiles about 400 years ago. Oh and the farms they use, it's from Myanmar. wo, racist? lol
    4. UBI japan actually apologized to Japanese users. Thank you to them. But the point they apologized are off the point, and what most of us want is an apologize from the genuine UBI, to appeal toward every customers among the world, that you actually apologized for mocking our cultures. Otherwise how do we know if anyone else won't do the same thing later? Imean UBI's impact is huge, other company might start something similar.
    5. UBI actions are trolling and Japanese Internet Society already started to make it a new meme. Once it starts to be a toy in Japan, believe me, it'll be used in every trolly way you could imagine.
SO please do have a respect toward our bowing Culture, and make an actual good game IF you call the game is based on Historical Facts.
I honestly like the series. I do respect your challenge of global equality achievements. But like we do, Please have more understanding toward us too.

GTA San Andreas had CJ one of the most loved black main character, similar with GTA 4 BOGT. They were received well because they ACTUALLY belonged to the setting and it made sense.
Here Ubisoft are just trying to force black character who does not belong in this setting. If they wanted to make their own story, they shouldn't have used Yasuke as an example which completely defeats the purpose for making it a 'real' historic reference. They could have easily integrated him as a side character with good amount of story for the wokeness, but making him a samurai and taking the spotlight from an actual Japanese born samurai is simply unfair for the Japanese culture.

Yasuke was never a samurai. He was nothing more than a room decoration for Nobunaga.
"Hey guys, look what came to me from abroad! It's super exotic!"
Nobunaga even ordered Yasuke to take a shower and rub himself to prove that his skin was indeed that color.
Can you imagine the East at that time treating Yasuke in the way they are trying to romanticize? Even today, some Eastern countries have problems with black people.
Disney knows this more than anyone. Just look at how Disney tried to hide all the black characters when promoting their films in China. 😏
No, Nobunaga never made Yasuke a Samurai. The sword that was given to Yasuke wasn't even good for cutting bread. The only thing about this Yasuke that makes sense with the real Yasuke is his size. He was huge indeed. But he didn't have this modern fashionable hair.
What makes me laugh out loud is the number of Wikipedia experts defending Ubisoft, pretending they care about the AC franchise and pretending they always knew about Yasuke's existence. It's hilarious.
Let's just pretend we don't know why Ubisoft does this. The real intention behind this black protagonist and a Japanese female protagonist. This Japanese ninja woman (kunoichi) who, BTW, will make the game completely ignore historical figures like Hattori Hanzo for example. And that Sweet Baby Inc is not behind all of this.
Let's pretend Ubisoft didn't just do the same thing in the latest Prince of Persia game. Replacing the Persian protagonist, already established since 1989, with a black character (who BTW also has a modern fashionable hair, what a coincidence, right?)
And finally, let's pretend this AC wouldn't be a pile of manure with or without a Japanese male protagonist. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I mean... the best thing to do right now is just ignore the existence of this and any game that Ubisoft will release. Stop talking about Ubisoft. The company embraced wokerism a long time ago. They don't care about good games anymore. If they are ignored, the company will die. And at this point we are at, that would be the best thing that could happen. I no longer see salvation for companies like Ubisoft.

Hidden history: Yasuke created Japan, the Japanese people, & language. He first arrived on Honshu in the late 1500s after a long swim all the way from Wakanda.
There was nothing on the island but vegetation & wildlife, so he used his Melanin Magic to spawn people. As a University of Yakub graduate, this was a simple feat.
However, these people who would come to be known as the Japanese did not inherit his Melanated complexion, as this was the source of his great power & sharing it would weaken him.
Yasuke was lonely, but his mama didn't raise no fool. He wasn't about to hand out power to just anybody, even his own little creations. Well, you know, in case they stepped outta line & he had to smack a ho down.
Due to the lack of melanin, the people turned out a bit yellow. They had black hair with almond shaped eyes. They weren't very diverse at all. In fact, he would often say how they all look alike!
Yasuke would teach his people the Japanese language that he invented all by himself. After all, He wasn't just powerful, he was a scholar, too. There was no limit to what he could achieve.
He gave them civilization: science, medicine, self-defense training, & laws. His newly created people revered him, erecting many statues in his likeness & monuments of worship.
Yasuke chose his 7 most loyal servants & made them samurai. They were special elite warriors, but of course, Yasuke was the first & most special of samurai. He invented them, after all.
Yasuke forged the legendary katana, Masamune. When the great kaiju Godzilla attacked Japan, it was Yasuke who singlehandedly drove him back to the depths of the ocean using the amazing blade.
Japanese society prospered for hundreds of years, but then the White man arrived. The Whites clearly envied Yasuke, his power, & his people. They bombed Japan into oblivion causing mass devastation.
Sadly, even Masamune & Melanin Magic were no match for this weaponry. They destroyed Yasuke, erased him from the memories of his people, & rewrote the entirety of Japanese history leaving him as a mere footnote.
The Japanese mostly forgot about Yasuke, diversity was no longer their strength. They became homogenous & xenophobic, taught to reject anyone of Yasuke's ilk.
But now, thanks to some very brave, subversive Westerners, his true story can finally be told & Japan will be reintroduced to their glorious hero:
    Yasuke: Black Samurai™

    2. Some people trying to rewrite Wikipedia due to a video game trailer to hide the fact that there is no evidence of him being a samurai
    3. It falling victim to the culture war means that the discussion has diluted to people defending the game mostly out of victimization and citing racism

Notice how in almost every form of modern media they would have someone black replacing the lighter skin positive figure character, practically piggybacking off of the previous character's success, but not once have they ever done anything that was actually based in Africa? It's like it sends a message that we Black folk were everywhere and everything (at the expense of other figures in fiction and history) except Africa.
Not just black people either, but every other minority. And when they actually do come out with something, the DEI aspect has made the very notion of culture so politically charged and toxic that is very hard to actually find some appeal in it.
10 years ago a game like AC shadows would have actually been fun, but the current culture makes it damn near impossible to find it fun because nowadays is just forced diversity shoved in our faces. Especially when they start going into Wikipedia to change history like they did with this game not too long ago.
Either way, I just don't care if a game is good or not anymore. If I see DEI nonsense, I'm bolting the other way. Point blank.

29:49 hello Mr. Asmongold I’m Japanese and if you really want to know what we think of AC shadows game compared to ghost of Tsushima, ghost of Tsushima was a good game and Japanese people really liked the game because of the accuracy of everything in the historical event in Tsushima Island and to be able to play the game specifically in the time period. That’s why Japanese people likes the game. But we Japanese think AC shadows is involved with sweet baby Inc so that’s why there is no historical accuracy of this game we feels lost in this piece of art of the game because we don’t know where we can place as a Japanese player in this specific historical event, but there is no historical event because it is all made and the Japanese female protagonist doesn’t looks like a Japanese woman but she looks more like a Vietnamese or Korean and the male protagonist, we wish to play as famous Japanese Shinobi, or warrior at that specific period of time like hattori hanzo (服部半蔵) sarutobi sasuke (猿飛サスケ) etc etc and that’s why we don’t like it and we don’t understand why they took yasuke as a representation of the Japanese historical video game.
