The first thing the Lexus delivery rep told me is: This Lexus can run on regular gas. I think it is not a issue which gas to use but more about how long the old gas stay in the tank.
No opinion on mid grade gasoline? Will anything bad happen to an engine that supposedly requires premium if mid grade is used? Aren't engine computer systems supposed to "account" for a small difference in octane?
Depends on which version of NX. If you are using the turbo, I'll still suggest premium. The 350H or 450H then mid grade will work. Premium is recommended, but not necessary. My understanding is most mid grade are a blend of premium and regular.
I wonder if it better to use non-ethanol gas than premium with ethanol. I heard they last much longer than Ethanol based gas which is important for nx450h given we mostly on electric and rarely fill up.
I am using regular gas, because I do long range drive during the summer weekends and will be able to use 1 tank per month. Will switch to premium gas in winter just because will burn much less gas by then.
Hi! Thanks for an awesome content. We just picked up 350h and wondered if 88 is safe to use. 88 isn't available as widely as other ratings. Do you think it's safe to use on 350h? Thanks in advance!
I assume you are in the United States. If so, 88 would be fine. Recommended to use premium unleaded gasoline with octane rating of 91 (Research Octane Number of 96) or higher for optimum engine performance. You may use unleaded gasoline with octane rating as low as 87 (Research Octane Number of 91). In this case, engine performance may be decreased. Use of unleaded gasoline with an octane rating lower than 87 may result in engine knocking. Persistent knocking can lead to engine damage. The US rating is octane rating so 87 will work, so 88 will work as well.
I've noticed after 3 months of filling up my gas tank i'm not getting as much gas in the tank (max gas range) as i first did, For example in the beginning i'm getting 840 km distance to empty. Now i'm lucky to get 800km distance to empty. Anyone else experience this in there Lexus 350h 2022?
here in indonesia, regular is RON 90, while premium is RON 98, Lexus regulation here must use RON 98 or the service warranty will void. Lexus 350h price here is around USD 91k with 5 years services
That makes sense RON 98 = 93 Octane which is the same here in Canada. Pricing is differently subjective to also taxes and fees per country. But for us 91k usd is more than what I'm paying for my nx450h+ in Canada.
My wife uses premium in her 350h. If it says "recommended" it's required for optimal performance. I was actually impressed by the performance in sports mode.
If I own the 350h, I would also use premium. Great to hear that you are impressed with the performance with the sports mode. Not everybody puts sports and Lexus together. :)
But when you think of it... NX250 uses 8L/100km combined 8L*2.159=$17.27 for 100km. The NX350h uses 6L/100km combined 6*2.409=$14.55 for 100km. Even using premium, it's still cheaper to drive the 350h.

In order to get the 306 HP, you do need the gas engine so then you will be using the gas in your tank. As long as you use the gas within a month or two it will be fine. I rather just use the gas than put fuel stabilizer into the tank. I would consider using Shell V-Nitro 91 which does not contain ethanol and that will allow you to keep the gas in the tank longer.
