Notice how generous and gentle Flip treats Louie. No wonder he was so well-liked by other celebraties.

This is especially touching because Louis had just recovered from a serious illness. He was in and out of the hospital from late 1968 through 1969. He didn’t return to performing in public until 1970. Few people were aware of how sick he was. His health was still frail yet he soldiered on until he passed in 1971 at the age of 69.

The great Louis Armstrong & the incomparable funny man, Flip Wilson, are two of my favorite people. Thank you so much for sharing. Kindly upload more of these gems. I sometimes google & stream FW show & I've probably seen all the ones featuring Geraldine, my all time fav segment, but never have seen this particular one w/ King Louis. Rest in power Papa Louis & brother Flp. You're sorely missed. RIP always.

At 3:05 he starts scatting and admits he forgot the words but knows the tune. Great entertainer.

He actually knew the words... if you listen to his recording of the tune from 1930-31 he also says "and I done forgot the words". I do agree with you though... he was a GREAT entertainer!

He had been gravely sick from late 1968 through 1969. He was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. This disease is caused by a heart attack doing damage to the heart muscle affecting the hearts ability to pump efficiently…I know…I have this disease. It affects kidney function and even mood. Louis recovered enough to resume performing albeit on a carefully monitored basis. His last public appearance was in March of 1971 at New York’s Waldorf Astoria. He suffered a heart attack a few days after the gig and spent a long time in the hospital. He was released and spent the next few months recovering and planning to perform again but passed on July 6, 1971 in his sleep. He was a month away from turning 70.

Sort of a passing of the torch in entertainment. This was from the last year of Satch's life.

Tracey Morgan should play Louis in a movie and it should end with him doing this perform with Chris Redd as Flip Wilson.

Incorrect. After this show he appeared on the Pearl Bailey Show in January, 1971, David Frost & Dick Caveat shows in February, 1971, and finally on Johnny Carson on March 1st, 1971, the night before he began his last engagement at the Waldorf Astoria in New York from March 2-13, 1971.
