Thank you for this. I was mowing my lawn and took a break to get a drink, then when I went to start again the cord broke. With this video I was able to pull out the end in the mower, tie it to the other end and restart the mower and finish my lawn. Great video, you saved the day - thank you!

Good wee video Calvin that’s a handy thing to know how to do as pull cords don’t last forever. Keep up the good work bud

Those 3 nuts on the top cover, how are they suppose ld to come off? The one closest to the gas tank came out of its hole but the other two will not come free to be able to gain access to the pull start.

Work like a charm simple and easy save me from buying a completely new pulley

I got that same problem. It won't retract. What are the 2 wing plastic things sticking out? They are on the outside of the spring. They close in and out. Thanks for your time. Have a good day and keep up the good work with that information.

Calvin, what causes it to slip and pawls not catch. Have you pull two times for them to engage.

I’ve never seen anyone take a recoil start apart to wind unless the spring has an issue and needs to be re-wound. For putting the rope on depending on the brand of engine you either wind the pulley then insert the rope which then pulls itself when spring tension is released. Even easier on these Honda recoil starts you insert the rope, turn the pulley in the opposite direction till a light click is heard (about 1 rotation) then release and the spring winds in the cord.

Hi Alex3745. Thanks for the comments. Yes I see what you mean you can do it without taking it apart. I just like doing it this way because I can check / replace the recoil spring at the same time and because you have to take smaller ones apart on chainsaws / strimmer's etc to replace the pull cord. This is the way I'm used to. Cheers Calvin

Thanks for the info. I followed the instructions but as soon as I removed the pulley mech to turn upside down the spring unravelled in front of my eyes. Any tips on getting the spring back in please.

Should have read your comment before I tried this. My spring unravelled too.
