Absolutely special, I was about to break the cover off because I did not know that it had a screw holding it on and did not know that I had to pull out on each of the locking tabs. So much appreciated! I have no idea why you would have done this video but all I can say is that you saved me a lot of grief for weeks to come, each time I would use our mower I would be reminded that I broke it. I do not like to work with broken things and especially when dummy me broke it. Thank you so very much!
Sir, thank you for this video. I struggled for 20 minutes trying to pop that screwed in clip until I got fed up and watched your video. Didn't realize I had to remove the metal clip first! I felt dumb, but I appreciate you taking the time to upload this for all of us dummies.
Mate. Thanks so much. I'm a gardener in Northumberland. I've always had IZYs, but getting the cover off this new engine really foxed me. You just made my life easier. Thank you. :)
Great video, short and sweet, no fancy music or video. Now I can proceed. I just purchased my HRX217. I heard Honda wasn’t going to make lawn mowers anymore. Mine now is over 25 years old…plastic deck is amazing , no rust,it runs perfectly . I’ll pass this fine machine on to my son-in-law. I needed the key start feature.
Once you got eletric start.... You won't ever go back. It's been a pleasure doing fall cleanup with my HRN216VLA. Honda stop producing mowers as of 09/2023, however they said parts will still be made. How long.. Idk but I already stocked up enough parts to have this mower last another 10-15 years
I just bought an HRX217 electric start with recoil backup. Since I do simple repairs myself and anticipating an inevitable rope failure (they used the smallest starter rope I've ever seen), I needed this information. It's not an obvious removal and you're video was invaluable. Thank you.
Thanks, great tutorial, clear simple instructions, including the nice safety tip securing the nitrile glove over the fuel cap. I had the top cover off just to clear a snag in the pull start cord, everything assembled again and started first time. Works just the same with the Honda GCV x 145
wish wish there were more videos like this for everything!! is only one that shows this, precise no nonsense short clear step by step, bravo! However, hesitate but am gonna share my embarresing stupidity, (mines hrx217k6vkaa gcv 200)to be exact) just in case helps even one other if were like me @ 40min in tryin to get off cover, watched too many no help videos impatient highly agitated w seconds from just ripping it off stomping on it and callin it a wrap and you'd absolutely missed it...... the screw w the u clip lock? ...... well. .... said clip has to come off before pushing the tab to lift off cover. Don't laugh at me. 😂😂😂
@@yesenia7274 lol I actually did the same thing. I just have to reach further since it's right at the motor now. I did order a new assembly just hadn't put it on yet.
Hello..do you have any experience advice etc about removing the front cover that covers the front axle? im trying to replace my axle and its been hard removing the cover...let me know thanks!
My Victory is still sleeping because of the snow still outside. I should be waking it up shortly. No I never did get my jack. I will build one, it might be easier.
Having an issue with mine. When I start it up I’m hearing a rattling noise. Gets a little louder if I lift the front of the mower up. Any idea what it could be or have come across that?
It could be anything. Check to ensure everything is tight including wheels, adjusters, handlebars, carburator, release cable, blades, even the motor mounts. Next start it up and put your hand on the top cover, air filter, use a stick to press against the exhaust to see if the rattle goes away. Turn off the fuel and remove the spark plug so it spins easier and pull the cord quickly to see if it will rattle. You are going to have to isolate the noise to a more specific area. Try these and let me know.
What else can I check? I mowed today for about 20 minutes with my HRN216, shut it down, and when I went to start it, the rope will not move. Removed the spark plug, still no joy. Checked under, nothing blocking it, but it has the clutch for the blade anyway so even if it did have grass build up that shouldn't stop it from pulling/starting. It was recently serviced for the recall w/the camshaft decompressor, and I did a full mow one time afterwards.
Remove the plug and try to turn the blades by hand. If they turn, then it could be your recoil pull rope is jammed. Is there any fluid in the cylinder? If there is then it could be hydro-lock which would prevent it from turning. This could be caused by flooding or you got oil in the cylinder from tipping the mower over the wrong way. Just a couple of ideas to check out.
@@PaulPomerleau Thanks, Paul. I did have the mower tipped BEFORE I had been mowing. Which is the right way to tip it when you need to clean under it? I removed the spark plug and still no joy. Then, I removed the cover, then the recoil, and I was then able to turn the flywheel backwards about a quarter turn using a screwdriver handle, then turned it forward and went back/forth a couple times and it was then fine. Put it back together and it's been fine since.
Excellent. Well done. I wonder what caused it to jam in the first place? The correct way to tip a mower is to first pull the cord slowly until you feel maximum tension which will tell you that both valves are closed which prevents any oil from getting into the cylimder. Mind you, you would not have been able to do this since you couldn't turn your motor. Then the most important part is to ensure that when you tip it, that the air filter is facing up. This prevents any oil from soaking into the filter which stops any air from going in, thus your motor won't run. Motors need spark, fuel and air. Without any of those it just won't run. Anyway, good job on fixing your mower, and thanks for letting us know in these comments for others who may have similar issues. Have a great day.
Detailed, nothing fancy, and straight to the point. Thank you.

Ive been pushing on those tabs for 15 minutes which brought me to your video , thank you so much .
TY for the video Paul. Worked on the hrn217 one also. You can break the tabs if you don't know how to remove it correctly.

THank you!! 😁 I might figure out how to put in the recoiler now.
Thanks, I got stuck doing this, your pointers were very valuable.

Yeah exactly what I was looking for THANKS for putting this up!
Very good explanation and easy to follow.
Thank you for this!! How do you replace the pull cord starter??
You ever change it? Busted my pull cord and was wondering how to change it. Thanks
@@lerma2891 no we just tied the piece that broke off together with the rest and it’s working just fine for now until we replace it.
@@lerma2891 I hope you were able to replace yours!

I liked the older style top cover better. This modern one gives the mower a cheaper look.
