Iv had my 2002 IS300 since I was 16 I’m 23 now and it’s still around running as strong as when I first got it, it has 194k miles on it and the car runs amazing. Perfect car for anyone looking for a reliable commuter while still being fun to drive.
My parents have owned ours since they got it literally off the showroom floor inside Lexus of Las Vegas circa 2002, such a great car and now it's mine! :-)
I love the is300. the steering is amazing, I love the trunk lights, if you add an exhaust you get a really nice sound, it's a smooth ride and it's a reasonable price. the perfect car
I jsut wish Lexus and Toyota didn't get rid of all their low end sports cars and manual transmissions. I would buy a RWD Lexus in a heartbeat if I could just find one with a manual trans. Now all we get is the LFA (disconinued and expensive as sin) and the "new Supra" which I heard sucks and is still very expensive. Is it too much to ask for a RWD Corolla with a manual trans? Yes, there is the GT86 but everyone has one and they are extremely small to be adding horsepower too. I want something between the Supra and the GT86.
MORE TOYOTA AND LEXUS CARS !!!!! Toyota/Lexus combined has a ton of modifiable cars. More platforms then Honda, Subaru, Mitsubishi and Nissan. Love the IS300/Altezza. Car has a cult following and great potential
I bought a IS300 SportCross for 1500 that wouldn't pass smog. I drove it hard for a day and the P0420 code went away. Then I sold it for $6500 the nest week lol
I watched this video when it came out, I remember just getting my drivers license and really wanting to own one of these. at the time I couldnt afford one so I bought a first gen miata, at the beginning of this year I pulled the trigger on a wagon and its a great car!
My dad had one of these and ripped it everywhere! Unfortunately he sold it when the market crashed in 08' but this car got me interested in cars. This car has a special place in my heart.
2jz is a bit nose heavy. Better off using a lighter 1jz block, does have little less power to the point reliability stops but the car overal is better balanced and hauls less ass
I bought this car for my daughter in 2019. Her first car. Same year, same color. The IS300 had 95k miles on it. Owned by a snowbird in Florida who put 25k mi on it the first 6 years then sold to a pilot who took it to California. She LOVES this car. So do I. Once in awhile I will take it for spin because it’s fun to drive. Smooth and fast. The coil overs do make a difference. Fabulous car.
YES! I am so surprised you reviewed this car! I own one myself and it's very often you find a vlogger *cough* like myself, building a GTE version of this car. That's exactly what i'm doing ;) May take awhile... but hey, that's the thing with most builds they take time. Only difference with mine is that, it's the IS200 (NON 2J) & It ain't as clean as this, but plan on getting a full respray, lip kit etc.
My dad had this in in the late 2000's and it was sooooooo much fun to drive! It was completely stocked and handled so well. It is still on. my wishlist!
my dad had a garage queen 02 factory black is300, never got to really know him but the is300 ended up becoming my first car, its sitting in the driveway now cant wait for all the new experiences this car brings me. thank you for this video
I've always liked these, a classmate of mine when I was in a mechanics course. It was a blue one, which I think was a manual. He ended putting a centrifugal blower, full exhaust and tune on it.He drove me home once in it, thing was awesome.
I love my blue 2001 is300. I'm fully restoring it at the moment, only has 158,000 miles and I've had it for about 2 years now. All i can say is i absolutely love this car and have since they first came out.
I own an is300 and here is finally a clean clear review! Surprised this car has 200k miles because it has an extremely clean interior. I love my is300 as it is a 4-door supra (to an extent) and I also love that these cars are not really common but are not rare, meaning that when you come across another tuned is300, it is like you found a long lost sibling. Great Review!!!
I don't think they should've had a turbo option from the factory because like you said it's a good first car. Not too many parents are cool with you getting a turbo car as your first car because apparently turbos will kill you. Having an NA motor is stealth and safe, by parents standards anyways.
Austin Hughes the thing is though that my parents know that if there's a turbo version of a car and an na, the na can be a turbo by not adding to much. But that's just my parents so I don't know about anyone else's.
I also have and IS300 that I also got from the first owner and he maintained it extremely well. I got it with 342K on the clock and it's still running like a champ.
That automatic gear-changer thingy was pretty amazing! Im actually starting to love to appreciate automatic cars THAT I CAN SHIFT (only). I own a 6 speed Matrix XRS so you KNOW I love to shift haha, but automatics can be fun also as long as I can select the gear at will.. Its just like a clutchless manual...
goddamn thats the cleanest is300 ive ever seen atm I drive a g35 sedan but im looking into getting an is300 and for some reason up in Canada they're so goddamn expensive
Obviously an older video but I gotta say I’ve always wanted an is 300 because it’s basically a 4 door Supra. But also it’s a very bulletproof car that’s fun and good looking too. And I must say as you were shifting with your throttle more smoothed out it sounded like it was shifting very smoothly can’t catch the delay
I've owned my '04 IS for 3 years now and you highlighted all the best things about the car! Great review. I made my twin brother buy one as a daily as well. We literally have the same exact cars now lol. This car is amazing, super reliable engine, great power, and classy clean styling. It is super good on road trips. I'm from Chicago and I took it to North Carolina, Georgia, Mississippi, Michigan, Wisconsin and all the states in between and absolutely love it. It was to go fast.. And the road trips were all to pick up other toy cars :) It's very true too the owner is everything! That's how you buy a good car. You can run these cars forever with little to no expenses or headaches! Thank you Lexus you really hit it with this one! Haha I have the same passion I get addicted to a lot of cars!
I'm picking one up in 3 weeks. when I first drove one I kinda fell in love with the driving feel. its a comfortable pitential "supra saloon". can't wait to get it!
That's my dream car I love it, But I want a Toyota Altezza cous it's left hand drive and I live in Cayman islands and My uncle has one I'm planning on buying it from him
My friend has one of these he got it from his aunt who just took it to work and back and kept it in the garage its so clean and the car drives like new its amazing.
I saw a Turbo Magazine article about 12 years ago now featuring a boosted IS300 in a weird purple blue color and instantly fell in love with the car. Looking to add one to the stable soon! Thanks for the review!
namelessvids well considering the aristo was the first car to have a 2jz, wouldn't the supra be a 2 door car with the aristo engine ? For the sake of being technically correct
I own a 2003 IS300 with 336,000 miles on it. Still running as strong as the day I bought it new. No major repairs ever needed. Best car I have ever owned.
BUY. It's hard to find one that isn't super low mileage and overpriced, or riced and salvaged and cheap. Especially not a manual. What you found is an absolute unicorn.
Finally. I have had an auto (i am currently driving since my manual just got hit). Love them so practical and sporty too love the platform. Not to mention they look much newer than they actually are
Those buttons actually respond a lot better than I thought they would considering its an early 2000s car with a 5AT. The IS300 is an all time favorite of mine.
The IS300 is the pinnacle of Lexus engineering and quality in the early 2000's. I use to have one with 160k miles and it was dead quiet at the stop light I had to keep turning the key to make sure. There is zero squeaks and rattles and the ride is super quiet. Once you get use to that, everything else just sounds super loud.
surprised to see the IS300 review after its more than 10 year debut, thought it is outdated already .... i guess i will keep driving mine, .... manual shift~ thanks for posting!
I have an '04 IS300 with a manual with 205,000 miles on it. It's about as clean as this one, but it's black. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE IS300. Timeless classic design from Lexus.
i owned a 01 auto. it was a one owner showroom model called the california edition. It was a bright yellow with black interior with yellow inserts and yellow stiching. It also was equipped with the torsin lsd rearend. In the shifter area there was also a sport button along with snow. Had garage door opener built into sunvisor. Later installed vis cabon fiber hood altezza grille, then injen intake and axle back tanaka muffler. Both helped the midrange where it was weak. Buy one with timing belt and tuneup done recently cause its crazy expensive. Thing drifts like crazy when wet. Superfun.
Always been one of my fav looking 4 doors since i started driving! But why oh why would anyone change the factory ball shift knob? it's super sexy from the factory, like a Ferrari one, but one Clean IS300 tho!
My dad had one and when it came for him to move on to a truck, he gave it to my brother who then got the car totaled from some person running a redlight into him. I’m convinced if he didn’t wreck it there’s a chance it would be my car now. I miss this car so much but I was too young to “understand what it really was” but even before I knew what it was, I loved it and I still do
Your comment about being clean and having 200k Miles is exactly the reason I love japanese cars. The is300 is cool but it's definitely a little lite on power. Exhaust sounds good.
This is why I love the Lexus SC300. you can get a (naturally aspirated) Supra for 5-7k. usually needs a rebuild because of the miles, but easily built into a big single turbo.
After watching this, i got the 2j bug & had to look it up! I went on Car Gurus & what was the first IS that popped up…an incredibly clean ‘02 lS300 for $24,000, 12 mi away. I thought that was high, even for having only 37,945 mi. Then i noticed it was a manual too! Now i know why its $24,000! I NEED it in my life! 🤤
This was on incredibly popular car when new. People bought many before the first ones were off loaded from the ships. The professional reviews gave it mixed ratings mainly because it was a little below the luxury theme of the other Lexus models at the time. The sport cross station wagon version is very rare as well. You saw them once in a while in the early 00s; these days years can go by without spotting one.
I have a 02 is300 with the manual 5 speed transmission it shifts so smooth and it loves to Rev high. I've had the car for 3 Years and the motor has been so loyal never a problem with 156k miles
my dad's a petrolhead as Well as me so when we look 4 new cars we usually want something quickish and practical. we used to Have a kitcar as Well as a family car but we had 2 sell it. and as Well my dad wants it to be comfortable and quiet when going long distance, so when he walked into my room while I was watching this video it caught his eye, hope it made him think about this as Well as a 328i :) thanks thatdudeinblue for showing him this car, it might be an option for us now:))
I think the owner should look at being the first to supercharge a 2JZ , the turbo thing has been done , and there's no turbo lag . And low 20s is not great fuel economy for an inline 6 when 5 years earlier A 98 LS1 could get high 20s .
The beauty of using a supercharger is that it's a lot easier to install on NA engines than a turbo . You don't need a kit from TRD to boost a Toyota engine , lower compression and bigger injectors for reliable and linear power with a supercharger . Turbo has lag so it's not linear , and requires a lot more money and work . Even putting the junk parts from an old twin turbo will require a shit ton of work compared to a supercharger that doesn't need any fab work to make it happen .
I actually just bought one almost like his same situation. One car owner. 9500 with only 91000 miles on it. Garage kept. I just have to replace control arms and ball joints. They didnt creak when i test drove it so my guess was that it had been sitting awhile. Woulda knocked off another thousand for the price tho if I had heard it.. Such a fun freaking car tho. Been a dream car ever since 2003. What he has done to it was exactly what I was hoping to do to mine eventually after the maintenance. Looks so clean!
Have a IS200 MT with 48 000miles (76 000km) and it looks like a new car, going over potholes and speedbumps it acts just the same as 20 years ago, not a sound from the interior. Love the old Lexus, deeply regret selling my 99 LS400.
I own a factory midnight blue, 2002 Manual IS300 with a 2JZGTE swap. Favorite car ive owned.

As a is300 owner, it makes me smile when I drive it. It might not be the fastest but it's an awesome little car.

@J. O. with a turbo. Stock comes NA.

sultan rs is like an is300 fucked an evo 6...
I saw a Turbo Magazine article about 12 years ago now featuring a boosted IS300 in a weird purple blue color and instantly fell in love with the car. Looking to add one to the stable soon! Thanks for the review!
I'd say aristo and Chaser are the two 4 door cars close to the supra.
namelessvids true, but the weight is very similar between the supra and is300.
Isn't the Aristo the same as a GS300?
No. Aristo is fully different car with supra engine. It's a luxury car that is fast as hell.
namelessvids The Aristo had the 2JZ first. So the Supra has the Aristo engine.
namelessvids well considering the aristo was the first car to have a 2jz, wouldn't the supra be a 2 door car with the aristo engine ? For the sake of being technically correct
I own a 2003 IS300 with 336,000 miles on it. Still running as strong as the day I bought it new. No major repairs ever needed. Best car I have ever owned.
is that Matt Farah's million mile lexus?
Daniel Dematteo you can't hear can you
Daniel Dematteo million mile lexus is an LS I believe
Mark Nope it's a joke
Zman_ Autos yup
No
Thanks for this video. Honestly I prefer the body shapes of the SC400 and LS400 but this one has its charm. The performance looks amazing as hell!
I found (and am thinking of buying) a White Lexus IS 300 looks clean, bone stock about 125k miles, MANUAL. And here's the kicker...
It's for 4k...
Get that shit!
Not to mention they look much newer than they actually are
Bro you should definitely review the 3rd gen Acura TL, preferably the 07 or 08 Type-S
Those buttons actually respond a lot better than I thought they would considering its an early 2000s car with a 5AT. The IS300 is an all time favorite of mine.
they made is300 from 2001-2005
they made them in manual for only 10% of 2002-2005
they only had autos for 01
sadness I have an 01 Lexus is300 but i still find it as my prized possession and I hope to work on it very soon
If you still own that IS then enjoy it till the end
I have an '04 IS300 with a manual with 205,000 miles on it. It's about as clean as this one, but it's black. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THE IS300. Timeless classic design from Lexus.
David it would be sick if you did an acura tl type s
i owned a 01 auto. it was a one owner showroom model called the california edition. Superfun.
One of my dream cars
finally IT IS ABOUT TIME YOU REVIEW THIS BEAUTY. I HAVE ONE WITH 175,000 MILES AND LOVE IT BESIDES THE AUTOMATIC PART.
I want an is300 the manuals are so rare though
Just convert them
Omar Jamali I would do that but in the long run
i have one forsale
I just bought one yesterday. Manual and in intense blue
Kenny Chhoeun that's what I was thinking there just rare
You opened my eyes to these, i really like them now
Always been one of my fav looking 4 doors since i started driving! But why oh why would anyone change the factory ball shift knob? it's super sexy from the factory, like a Ferrari one, but one Clean IS300 tho!
Turbo Tim Because in the summer it's hot like charcoal and like an ice cube in the winter lol
My dad had one and when it came for him to move on to a truck, he gave it to my brother who then got the car totaled from some person running a redlight into him. I’m convinced if he didn’t wreck it there’s a chance it would be my car now. I miss this car so much but I was too young to “understand what it really was” but even before I knew what it was, I loved it and I still do
I've been waiting for a review on this car!! supra engine!! you can find these dirt cheap where I live
Your comment about being clean and having 200k Miles is exactly the reason I love japanese cars. The is300 is cool but it's definitely a little lite on power. Exhaust sounds good.
would be awesome to see david review an mr2
This is why I love the Lexus SC300. you can get a (naturally aspirated) Supra for 5-7k. usually needs a rebuild because of the miles, but easily built into a big single turbo.
have a gs300...best reliable car ive had...cant wait to swap in a gte!!!
Did u swap it
My aunt had an IS300 and I loved driving that car. Not really anything to speak of in a straight line but super fun to throw around s corner
Hey David, I saw you at Caffeine And Octane and got a picture with you
After watching this, i got the 2j bug & had to look it up! 🤤
Ahhh yesss, the midnight club 3 car
This was on incredibly popular car when new. People bought many before the first ones were off loaded from the ships. The professional reviews gave it mixed ratings mainly because it was a little below the luxury theme of the other Lexus models at the time. The sport cross station wagon version is very rare as well. You saw them once in a while in the early 00s; these days years can go by without spotting one.
David you need to do a lexus LS-400, its the car i would love to have as a first car :) v8 life
I would have defenetily bought an ls400 if they were cheap in sweden :(
i know the feeling :/
Well they cost next to nothing here in Germany and I mean that's not too far from Sweden.
musclcarmaniac98 Rarely none are for sale. And when they do they sell fast as fuck, and not cheap either.
Are you serious i find ones with less then 150000 km for less then 5000 € all the time on Autoscout and mobile.de
i've had my 2002 is300 for 2 months and it's the best thing that's happened to me, also i got the forrest green color which is rare
The coolest part of this car was the silver ball shifter which this owner removed.
Ben Latour lmao I have
Especially on the manual one it looks so clean !
Lmao I love mine
I have a 02 is300 with the manual 5 speed transmission it shifts so smooth and it loves to Rev high. I've had the car for 3 Years and the motor has been so loyal never a problem with 156k miles
Thanks so much man!
my dad's a petrolhead as Well as me so when we look 4 new cars we usually want something quickish and practical. we used to Have a kitcar as Well as a family car but we had 2 sell it. and as Well my dad wants it to be comfortable and quiet when going long distance, so when he walked into my room while I was watching this video it caught his eye, hope it made him think about this as Well as a 328i :) thanks thatdudeinblue for showing him this car, it might be an option for us now:))
I think the owner should look at being the first to supercharge a 2JZ , the turbo thing has been done , and there's no turbo lag . And low 20s is not great fuel economy for an inline 6 when 5 years earlier A 98 LS1 could get high 20s .
Well.. he wouldn't be the first since that's been done too.
TRD supercharger kit was available back in the day
I new most twin turbos have been swapped to single , but never heard of supra charging it .
There was never a TRD blower kit available for the IS.
Do a Corolla XRS
Have a IS200 MT with 48 000miles (76 000km) and it looks like a new car, going over potholes and speedbumps it acts just the same as 20 years ago, not a sound from the interior. Love the old Lexus, deeply regret selling my 99 LS400.
