My resolution is to weed out the fountain pens I don’t use and re- home them. So my question is: what criteria do you use to decide whether a new pen enters/an old one leaves? My method of “which one do I like more?” is not helping me decide.

My pen resolution for 2024 is to use more color.
I have 7 fountain pens inked, one color for each day of the week to highlight and date my journal but the main body of my journal writing is always black and I write everyday.
I want to get out of using black so much in the body of every entry of my journal.

Thanks for the video! that orange Kaweco is beautiful! i wish Kaweco made black nib sports more accessible and not just regional or store exclusive releases, a "collection" pen with black nib and some crazy space-like resin would be a dream pen for me.
My question is: What would you like to see from Kaweco in terms of materials and resin color combinations?
My resolution of the year is to get a pen im not scared of losing so i can write with fountain pens on my daily life instead of just at home when doing calligraphy.

For 2024, I am resolved to cycle my pens more often so that I can identify the ones I like the most..and to use more color. I always enjoy your episodes, Tom. Thanks.

This year my 2 resolutions are to save for "the pen" I want, which for me is the Delta Duna AND to refine my collection to ONLY the pens I really want to use.

My pen-based resolution for the new year is to find a way to make one for each member of my family. I have the resin, I've made the designs, I just need to find the time!
A few will be Fountain pens, but since those aren't for everybody, the G2 will be my more common model.

My pen resolution: write in my journal with my fountain pens more often.
Question: what would you consider to be your top five inks and why?

Never really "did" personal resolutions for a new year, but "no new pens" is unconscionable to me. I would like to start journaling, thus using my pens a lot more than I currently do in this digital age. However, it occurs to me that a life worth writing about should be a life worth reading about, and both of those should start with a life worth living. That's my resolution. To live a life worth reading about.

My pen resolution is to take the time to explore different inks in my pens. I gravitate to shimmer inks, but those don’t always play nice in certain pens and I end up faulting the pen. I want to really get to know my pens.

My pen resolution is to break out of my need to match my ink to my pen. I want to try inks in pens to see how they perform regardless of color match! 😬 I like that orange Kaweco!!

I don’t believe in resolutions because I believe everyday is an opportunity for change and renewal. But if we are talking pens I’d say my goals are to pursue different writing experiences so different types of nibs rather than the same models in different colors (twsbi would be my only exception to this!😅)

The WiFi went out and, despite numerous hours wasted, I mean, spent online with tech support, multiple "oops! We had you scheduled for Wednesday, not Tuesday", and more nonsense, it took over a week to get some reception. We also had a horrible line of storms go through, pausing right on top of my house when I was in another county at a pen club meeting. Such a relief to see your face again, Tom. Question: when a pen has a piston or other fill mechanism such that the ink is in contact with the inside of the barrel, what do you do to either prevent staining or remove stains? Thanks for your programs, and for the very cool catalogue that was included with my most recent order.

My new year pen resolution is to use each and every pen I have in my collection in rotation. Not buy any new pen,
instead I want to save that money to try new inks.

I never make resolutions, either for Rosh Hashanah or the secular New Year, but I do want to make an effort to buy a lot less in the coming year. Most of my pen-related purchases will be ink and notebooks instead of pens. I'm very happy with the collection I currently have, though I'd be happy to add a new release with a color, pattern, and/or symbolism that really speaks to me.
What is your opinion on novelty-shaped pens, like the Opus 88 fountain pen in the shape of a wine bottle?

Am I the only one who is nervous about carrying an eyedropper pen in my pocket, especially one that was not specifically designed as one? As an engineer, I know that O-ring joints are carefully designed, so am kind of apprehensive about tossing an O-ring on a cartridge or converter pen and filling it with ink. I've also occasionally found my cartridge/converter pen has unscrewed a bit (although the addition of an O-ring should help keep it from loosening). I admit that the joint on a pen does not have the demands of the O-ring on the Space Shuttle solid rocket boosters. But, has anybody ever had an accident with an eyedropper pen?
My fountain pen resolution is to obtain one or more higher-quality pens than the ones I have now, and begin trying out different inks.

My pen resolutions for 2024 are much like yours, Tom. I feel like my collection is "complete" since I picked up a Pilot Vanishing Point this year at the Ohio Pen Show 👍
However, with my eyes always open, new pens could pop onto my wish list at any time 😉
My second resolution is to clean and store all the pens I'm not currently using, and then to rotate them in during the year.
I was surprised to find myself adding vintage pens to my collection, since those weren't really on my scope. But I've picked up a few interesting ones at the Pen Show, flea markets, etc. I've been fortunate so far they all of them have worked well.
Question: Is there an easy way to fix the Parker 21 from ink leaking when capped? It is only a minor annoyance, but would be nice to stop that.

Another great video. The Black Sands and Tornado Silver Lining are an excellent addition to my collection. The inks were perfectly paired with the mystery dip and pleasantly surprised you gave popular inks to try. Just missed ‘tis the season fountain pen but it looks like you might still have one b/c this post is only 6 hours old 😂. How long does it take to prepare for FPD and have you already started for 2024?

In 2024 I want to use my fountain pens more often. I also need to come up with better/more storage for my empty pen boxes and Retro tubes. My question is related to ink drying out in my non-fountain pens, particularly in my Retro 51 pens. Would it help to use them all from time to time to keep ink flowing? I have all these cool pens, but don't know if there is a way to extend the "ink life." Are there any tips or am I just at the mercy of time & evaporation?

Rohrer &Klingner Scabiosa is a very fast drying ink in my experience. Permanent too. It needs a wet pen, in order not to make the writing harsh.

My resolution will be to add another pen to my single fountain pen collection :) My TWSBI 580 is lonely. As I have been looking at a couple of Pilot pens, specifically the E95S and the Custom 74, are the converters worth it or would you just syringe fill cartridges? Going with the TWSBI 580 as my first fountain pen, I think I'm kind of spoiled by the piston filler, and like you answered my question last week, the Pilot Custom 823 keeps calling me.

    • @GoldspotPens
      @GoldspotPens  7 месяцев назад

If you're looking for a standard F, M, or B round nib, go for the 823. If you'd like a specialty nib (like a stub or FA soft nib), then the 912 gives you that nib range.

    Tom,
Thanks for the excellent video. 2023 is the beginning of my passion for fountain pens. It began in June as I went to Europe for the first time with my recent college graduate son. We went to London first and there I purchase a Lamy Safari. From there we went to Port Portugal where I purchase an Otto Hutt 5. I find that it is rewarding to find a pen whilst on a trip and the pen ties my memories that event. Regarding 2024, my goal is to attend a pen show. Since I live in Hawaii, the closest show is in LA in February. Is this one worth attending? Or do have a better suggestion? Also, I use mechanical pencils for my paper schedule, currently use a Rotring Rapid PRO 0.5., what is your favorite?
    Mahalo,
    Keahi

off topic but does anyone know why the Visconti HS Lava Color - Blu Oltremare is no longer on most pen websites? it doesn't even say out of stock it's just not there anymore. I was planning on buying this pen this week but now I can't find it anywhere

I think this style has been discontinued. I believe it's also known as "Ultramarine" if that helps you find them on other websites.
