  • First time I’ve met this hybrid falconry bird made from two very very capable species ; so will it be best if both or the worst of its parents ? Jason brought it to show me before the moult so we’ll all have to wait and see !
Hybrids: the marmite of falconry and reptile
Keeping ! Do you love or hate them?

I wish Jason and Frank all the best with a successful next season.
I like Marmite too, agree or disagree with hybrids I’m looking forward to seeing its full potential.
    Thanks for sharing.

hybridisation between the golden eagle and the Harris hawk needs to be done artificially that doesn't happen in the wild even in places where their ranges overlaps due to the big different in size and habits

Harris hawk on steroids image that 😊 . Looks beautiful. Definitely has an eagle's voice. Good luck with it.

Has the potential to be an extremely versatile bird

Definitely feel a bit uneasy with stuff like this... Especially when whoever is creating things like this don't know how to properly care for the birds they create, or sell them to people that don't know either. Hope he gets the bird sorted and healthy. I am curious to see what it's capabilities and temperament turn out to be though. Hopefully you'll keep us updated.

I’ve seen one before , the noisiest bird I’ve ever come across, it made my fillings vibrate. I haven’t come across a good eagle cross as yet. Good luck, hope he proves me wrong.

If it carries the best of both types, it ought to be a delight!

Do Golden Eagles and Harris Hawks cross in the wild?

      No not at all

    • @kevkeary4700
      @kevkeary4700 7 месяцев назад +1

@@falconry.davesharpenatureboy so concerning conservation of the various species, there is no danger of cross breeding then which is important. Deer species can cross breed like in the wild.

@kevkeary4700 lots of folk cross all
Kinds of animals , the worse problem is likely losing track of hibrids and them being absorbed into captive gene pool

Was the father a male harris? I often wonder if the male was bigger than the female would the chick's come out warped in some sense.

I think most often the smaller species if the male but not always the case I think , maybe depends on birds in question

I'm not sure how I feel about this. If it happened naturally, in nature, it's like alright, mother nature is being cheeky, giving us a new bird of prey to be fascinated with. But, to purpose breed, yeah, I'm not too sure about it. If you can follow "Frank's" progress, I'd live to see it.

Birds did not evolve from reptiles, but from a certain kind of dinosaur. So doesn´t this bird have RT blood in it?? There are some tail-feathers showing jamaicensis genes...
