    Couple quick things..
    Always remove fill plug first!!
    2 benefits..
    1 you won't be screwed if it strips after all fluid is drained..
    2 helps the fluid drain much faster...
    Lastly..
    After filling differential..
    Take truck for short ride turning left & right several times..
    This will fill side internal baffles/wheel ends...
    Recheck level...it will not be full anymore((very very bad))
    Top off one last time & go trucking...
    Internal baffles are often overlooked in differential servicing!!

    My see a leak from the front yoke by the drive shaft area, could that be too much oil or the seal is bad, i tried checking the oil level on that middle plug and oil was coming out but i hurried and closed it back so i wouldn't lose the oil i had, should i check from that top male plug to see it its good with oil?

      @markm0000 3 года назад +3

      I had a D12 transmission on my last truck and I read the book very carefully. You have to change the fluid and filter every 100,000 miles if you want to keep the truck for a long time. It’s not expensive it just takes a lot of patience letting it drain out. If you don’t plan on keeping the truck then change it at the first 100,000 then every 200,000 after.

    Can you use 75w90 in place of 80w90 in the differentials?

    • @wiredforstereo
      @wiredforstereo Год назад +1

      Yes. Really, any viscosity is fine, you're trading protection for fuel economy. Thinner is for fuel economy, thicker is for protection.
      If you look at the viscosity numbers at operating temperature are not as different as you might think.
      My trucks are summer only severe service, so I use thicker.

      @@wiredforstereo we didn’t use measurements. we use a simple hand pump on the 5 gallon gear oil pail.
      The instruction is (after you’ve drained it) to take out the top plug, which is actually somewhere near the middle ; then you keep pumping it until you noticed that it flows out of the hole once it starts overflowing that’s when you know you’ve put enough in.
