@@Morgannn4317 Both are great careers. I found out that although I wanted to be a marriage and family therapist/child development, I couldn't see myself constantly doing therapy and being able to disassociate myself from that person's trauma/problems. Obviously the more schooling you go through and experience you have, it gets better over time. I found that while I LOVED learning psych (and you can use that degree for many different things), I am a more creative person and interior design just spoke to me :). While psych is all about behaviors and mental illnesses, its also learning just how to talk to people in reality

I really like to see the focus on design process. Not just because I find it interesting from a creative perspective (space planning, finishes, client profile.. and all the reasoning behind each decision! YAY!) but also because it shows to people who don't know or understand the full scope of work and complexity interior design work. Designers don't enter into a place and magically know how the space will look like or how it will work better, it takes time to consider all the variables and how they affect the whole thing. Really liked this one!:)
Question: Do you know from experience/education what you can and can't do in terms of building work, or you always consult with a builder during the process of evaluating all the possibilities for a space? Or it simply depends on the space?

Loved this @karinbohn! I love that you show the reality of interior design. I’d rather see you go through the process then jump to the end result. I’ve done a bit of interior consulting (can’t really call myself a designer since i haven’t done the schooling for it yet) but people actually think they’re Reno’s are like a HGTV show and it’s not all like that. So i love that you share this raw reality of the time, energy and planning it takes to pick a faucet all the way to picking a cabinet door. Entrepreneurship is a choice and it’s a great choice, I totally agree though with you that it’s ALOT of work and things just don’t happen overnight. You inspire me sooo much, I’ve been huge follower of your work. Maybe after I’m done at BCIT I’ll apply at your firm. I would love to learn from someone who’s so raw, passionate and talented like you. In the meantime I’m a fan of all your work and i watch all your videos! Love and many blessings Karin!

@@SultanAbusaif Soon I'm graduating with a bachelors in interior design. I personally went to university with a four year program, the first year I would say was a time waste to be completely honest. It was a lot of theory that no one remembers anymore, but every year after that was great and filled with a lot of useful information and practice. I personally enjoy it, and find that it's perfect for me. However, a lot of people have dropped out, because it is much more difficult than what people expect. There is a lot of theory, a lot of lectures, a loooot of out of class studio time, and a love technical aspects to every project. You have to write specs, know how to use software such as Autocad, Revit, Sketchup, Photoshop, and Lumion (which is a constant learning and lots and lots of hours spent in them). But I love all of that.
p.s. excuse my English, it's not my first language :)

Needless to say, you have a very strong personality and you are very much fit on your vlogs pertaining to the: The Reality of Interior Design. Now that you are showing your office as I have watched lately in RUclips, maybe showing the rest of your office would need some refinement particularly by making it presentable and without clutters as you are in the business of making most of the spaces in order and pleasant to your customers’ eyes. Sophie Paterson an interior designer also can be sen in RUclips is one of the the good example when it comes to showing her office environment. I am wishing you all the best!

Hi Karin. Love the content. I find it so inspiring. Super beneficial. I am going into my interior architecture and design program soon and all the light you are shedding on this industry is great.
I wanted to ask...I love your style of design and wanted to know how did you build your brand? The brand of Karin Bohn.

Michelle Samuels Hi Michelle! Thanks so much for watching my videos!! 🙏🏼 I love hearing that you find them inspiring, so thank you. I love your question about building my personal brand as well... it’s a big question so maybe I’ll try to answer that in another video! ❤️ xK

I really love this video because it really shows everyone the reality about interior design, where there are a lot of misconceptions about it. Btw, I'm currently an interior design student (also makes youtube videos lmao) like heck yea, getting through this industry is really hard but it is very fulfilling whenever you finish something! :)

I’m a creative people person. I play interior design games for fun on my phone. I started out going to college taking art courses for graphic design. But I’m just not into that kind of art anymore and I wanna change my major. I’ve done it for song long, I just wanna move on to other things. Interior design interests me. But idk if it is just something I admire and enjoy or if it’s a new passion I could have. Idk what to do with my life anymore 😅😭

I find it hard to transfer the idea in my head to my staff and those who are around me. Do you find it challenging to project the picture or the image and the idea in your head to your designers and staff? Is there any of your staff that is more connected to you and reads you the best?

PLEASE HELP: I am deciding between two different colleges that have different design programs. One of them has an Interior Design program and one has a interior architecture program. I need insight about the differences between the two and also which would be better to go into if I want a successful career as an interior designer.

Bonjour Karin, We know your life today. But how was it when you first started out? You would have been doing all the interior design yourself, that would have been mostly your day? I'd love to know really how is it in the first couple of years when you stepped out on your own. I'm not in the same industry as you but both our industries are creative, technical and very hands on.
