  • Eliza House is a new contemporary two-story home located in an enviable area of Black Rock. The previous structure was a post-war brick-veneered house with low ceilings and no heritage significance. The decision was made to demolish and rebuild, retaining parts of the original exterior walls to preserve the layout that prioritized an east-facing courtyard.
The new central entry leads to a spacious hallway that opens up to an open-plan living area connected to the backyard. Full-height glass doors allow complete integration between indoor and outdoor spaces, providing a 180-degree view of the garden. The hallway is illuminated by large windows that capture the morning light and create shadows from the outdoor landscape.
The north-facing living room is bright and airy year-round. The house is also designed with custom cedar screens to ensure the neighbors' privacy. Exterior finishes include black timber battens, white-painted recycled bricks, and a velvety gray cement render, creating a sophisticated and timeless material palette.

I love everything, but the layout of the first floor. 3 bedrooms and the bathroom lost to a sofa....
I guess the client really wanted 4 bedrooms in total at any cost.
