I love this home. It whispers coziness. I would have loved to see a closeup of the floor when they were discussing it... instead of just talking heads and no floor in sight.

Yeah really frustrating - the editor should have cut to some stills of the floor if they didn't get footage!

We should have got some shots of the floor - sorry about that!
Here’s a film we did a while ago with a similar floor style, in case you’d like to check it out:

I love and admire that they made this home their own. Nothing generic about it with amazing soft and hardscapes. Beautiful result.

Absolutely loved this. It was a much needed dose of calm and inspiration. Particularly loved the workshop in the garden, the charcoal and the chain rain gutters ❤

Every chapter heading was an exquisite work of art. This is such a peaceful, beautiful home, with every choice so consciously and carefully made. Thank you so much for letting us in. I know I will go back to this video for inspiration time and time again.

I understand the seasonality and attachment to memory in Japan`s plant landscape,, seasons there being clear and powerful. It is a luxury to have your own space far from home and recreate your memories.

Just watched this thinking how beautiful Yasuyo’s botanical art is and sorry it was so short… then opened my latest library book - The Kinfolk Garden - and there Yasuyo is again - a whole chapter about her work in her (previous?) south London home! Bliss ❤

Yes the interview was very nice, but I would've liked a bit more on the architecture, the spaces themselves and how the achived the designs (like is it wallpaper or somekind of plaster on the walls)

I love that they did that with the back area, rather than bi-fold doors. Solid wall spaces are important - you take them away and it removes so much potential interest.

Nice to see a Japanese aesthetic in a western home. I would like to build a home like this as I lived in Japan for 10 years but wrestle with how to combine western comfort with Japanese design. Having a modernist oblong open empty room is not enough. Thanks for posting this and yes, more details would have been nice.

Love the charcoal shed and the planting. And bringing nature into the home and vice verse is always a good decision. I also think the man with the glasses is quite attractive- but probably he’s also quite straight and obviously married…but one can’t have everything I guess… ,-). Greetings from Germany and thanks for all your interesting videos!

Matt, at 8:25, for some of us who are neurodivergent the orderliness of straight lines in the home actually calm the amygdala stress response, not trigger it.

I remembered replastering the entire house, i lobed the look and feel of it, the only element that made me change my mind to paint it was the smell of dust emitting through it. Not sure you experience the same with your plastered wall

Had to stop the video to come see what was going on with the floor. Why not just make a podcast, why make a video if you don’t want people to see the things you’re talking about? Lol. Why was showing spider removal more important than showing the floor?

I found this home to look too messy. I'm all for bringing nature into the home - that's how I designed my home as well - but nature is also defined by order and organic spaces. This home was too filled with trinkets and a lack of breathing room to feel natural to me, like weeds overgrowing everything. Although that can also have its charm.
