As I got older that’s how I felt about Lent… not giving something up, but adding something or doing something to help others. I feel that brings me closer to God and it’s just more meaningful.
I agree, yet enjoy giving something(s) up. This year I have thought to replace each thing I give up with something that encourages my spirituality.
Every year Lent reminds me of my true calling. To attack and dethrone god.

I am no where close to being a Christian, but it seems to me that in a nation full of Christian bull$hit that someone who actually is trying to do the right thing in his relationship with his god should be admired. Do I want to have dinner with him, no, but I won't bash him either.

I can tell you this much. I have traveled this world extensively. Been to many countries and met many peoples. The most peaceful tend to be the Christians. I've been to countries where they kill you for being gay. For the crime of being raped (not performing it but being the victim). Where they kill you for wearing the wrong clothes. Or maybe in his parish the priest sprinkles the ash on the head? Both sprinkling of ashes and tracing an ahs cross are common practices in the world. Bepends on where you are which you are more likely to encounter. The Vatican and Italy sprinkle ashes, in the USA tracing an ash cross is more common. In my country we do both and it depends on the tradition in that particular parish.
