My family are from Jhelum but I'm a British born teacher living near Windsor Castle. I work in Southall, London and I meet a lot of the Sikh community where I work and this video has made me so unbelievably happy and yet so sad. Happy as I've finally seen a Sikh who has ancestry from the same place I do and I will definitely go to the house on Civil Lines and tell people this story. I'm happy to know that Ex-PM of India IK Gujral was from Jhelum too (showing that we are high achievers from way back) and hearing Sardar Ji's story about what pre-partition Jhelum was like has blown my mind. Thank you so much Sardar Ji for sharing this forgotten era with us fellow Jhelumis. Even his comments on Murree, Rawalpindi, Gujar Khan etc touched my heart as they are all places I know, love and visit when i'm in Pakistan. I'm sad, actually, i'm very angry that a fellow Muslim Jhelumi committed such a disgusting act against this Sardar Ji's family and how they had to beg for their copy of the Guru Granth Sahib after somebody took kabza of their family home. If somebody had killed my Dada in a similar way, kicked him out of our family home and made my Daadi beg for the family Quran etc, I would be full of rage and this Sardar Ji has a HUGE heart to overlook this and move on from what happened and explore his roots. Sardar Ji ik sher ne! bohat dhaleri dikhai ne. My extended family still live in Jhelum (Cantonment) and we have a dera near the Rohtas Fort. This Sardar, any Sikhs/Hindus etc of Jhelumi origin and any other non-Pakistanis for that matter who need help in any way can feel free to contact me by replying to this comment. I feel a united Punjab would have led to a united greater India including modern day India, Pakistan, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, Bhutan and even the Chinese provinces of Xinjiang and Tibet along with Afghanistan if they managed things correctly. It could have been the super power of the modern day but there are always the idiots who spoil it for everyone and this has compounded over the years and dragging all these countries down. I have received nothing but love and friendship from Sikhs and other Indians in the UK and would love to see relations between both communities revert back to the way they were before partition. A Jhelumi is a Jhelumi, a Punjabi is a Punjabi. Punjabi Leher Zindabad!

Aoa. Nice programme. Such programmes should be made part of academics and curriculum as we new generations are not familiar about the past history and people of our cities and areas. In our childhood , we used to watch so many monuments , buildings and sacred pkaces left by people living in these areas preparation time ,but nobody guided us about their importance. But now after listening such interviews , we are learning about our land , its people and past history. Great work. Keep producing such nice stuuff. Thanks

My mother's family also migrated in India. Dies any body help me in finding. They migrated from Rohtas fort to Ropper or may be Ambala. This is Dass family and there names were Mangal Das, Banaras Das, Narain Das, piyarma Das etc.
