Love this - it addresses nearly every issue with the RM1 in beautiful fashion. I think this bike make so much sense. The one thing I'd like to see is a bench seat/extended rear frame option to have the option of carrying a passenger or more cargo options.
There are so many haters of electric bikes in the comments. No one is forcing you to buy. Personally, I think these make way more sense than the 20 -30K electric motorcycles. These are meant for the city. They look smart and are easy to charge. They are also British. Why bother with electric bikes at all? Because our government signed us up to net zero by 2050. Don't blame the manufacturers. Blame the politicians if you don't like it.
I don’t hate anything, especially electric bikes but I don’t need a 125cc even if it is British, I would like a bike like this but with a larger range and more power.
I think people who hate don't understand the purpose of the bike. As someone who lives in DC this will save me a lot of hassle. Plus on a single charge I can visit my family and return so I don't see an issue

Great review thank you. I like it! I’m very tempted to get one for just poodling around the lanes and popping into my local town. It’s a real shame that people choose to be so aggressive and angry in their comments online. I say well done Maeving for producing a great little machine. I look forward to seeing how your models develop in the future.
I bought one. I will say, the motorcycle community is.... protective, at best. Gatekeeping at worst. I'm 35 years old and had never owned a bike. I'm short, I'm skinny. They just didn't fit me. And nobody in the Big Bike industry caters to that. Ask any old guy what his first bike was, he'll say a 125cc or maybe 200 Yamaha or something. They just don't make bikes like that anymore. Even the Honda 125 is 100 lb heavier than its 1970's counterpart. Maeving is coming in with a bike that looks slick as hell, for the young urban professional who wants to get into biking and doesn't feel welcome in Bike Bike land. And it's working for them, because a lot of potential riders have been neglected by the industry.
Kinda cool but just not for me even as a city commuter I'd opt for a Honda Mini-moto (modifed for more power) or a scooter. Or realistically just a CB300 at half the cost or there about. My modified Honda monkey will do 60-65mph and gets 120mpg. 60 mile round trip to work frequently on it.
Options is the point. I'd love this as a second bike. Practically zero maintenance, and practically no degradation if it sits for a while (whereas the fuel in a petrol bike will separate if it sits too long).
It is expensive to buy, but cheap to run, so that may balance out costs somewhat over a long period. Hub motor means no chain or belt drive to maintain.
Ideal for short distance commuting and running to the shops on, EXCEEEEPT……………..nowhere to mount a top box (or any luggage), so nowhere to stow a lock and chain, NOWHERE to stow your jacket and back protector when you get there and just to top it off NOWHERE to put your two shopping bags of Tescos shopping. Brilliant🙄
I agree it's a completely silly and impractical design, people are not going to spend this amount of money in this engine range for less practicality, unless they are completely new and naive to biking.
I feel sorry for the likes of Toad, Chad, Alex etc for having to review electric bikes. They have to be professional and constructive and fair knowing that the type of bike is not something they would ever buy for the exact same reasons motorcyclists like us wouldn't. It's a tough sell and let's not forget Arc Vector who went into liquidation the other month as their electric bikes never sold.
The RM1 sold pretty well. Enough to justify the RM1S. It doesn't sound like you're the target audience for this particular bike, but that's ok - horses for courses. Creators have to consider their wider audiences - Toad could likely pick up a fair few subs for this given it's the most comprehensive review of the bike I've seen so far - lots of people considering this will hit this video. Tough sell for a bike enthusiast, less so for someone looking at smaller electric cars or with a shorter commute. Clearly a market there based on prior model sales.
So really when we all switch to electric you can only really stay in your area. As a trip to the coast or another city is out if the question. From my house in the midlands to the coast and back again is 160 miles. On my honda 650 i can give it some beans and really cruse and it takes 1 and a half hours. There is a market for these bikes, especially within city and short distance, however what you miss out on with electric is the sense of adventure on a motorcycle, the ability to keep riding and go new places, even if it is just curiousity I think most bikers have wanderlust to do some kind of touring or long trip on a bike. If you lose this mentality I think motorcycling will become just a soulless commuting tool rather than a lifestyle.
