Thank you as well. Cziffra's work is like an aladins cave for me. I can't wait to learn more about his magical gift and of course hear it - the best part.
Amazing film footage. I think it was filmed in Hungary and possibly still exists in their TV archive. It would be wonderful to have the complete performance on disc. I like Cziffra's no holds barred out and out romantic approach to Rachmaninoff's concerto. Pity he never played the third concerto as I can imagine it would have been stunning.
I dont think Rachmaninoff's piano concerto 2 and Mendelssohn's G minor concerto suit Cziffra very well. Also the recorded sound doesn't help his performances. From around 1967 he played a Yamaha piano and not a Steinway. Cziffra was a great pianist and Geza Anda a very fine player too but I dont like Schiff.
I do not like Cziffra.Cziffra plays Rachmaninov 2 concerto an anti romantic fashion with an ice cold tone!!! Cziffra plays Mendelsohn piano concerto so an awful way it has to be the weakest Mendelsohn g minor piano concerto 1 ever.It is even weaker than Yuja Wang playing Mendelsohn 1 concerto. The Hungarian players like Cziffra Geza Anda Andras Schiff were and are an awful.Zoltan Kocsis is OK can play Debussy and Bach.I like the most is Dezo Ranki the only great master!!!!!

Cziffra - did he really exist? It's hard to believe.
