Not surprising at all. There was a time when France introduced a visa regime because of international terrorists striking on their mainland, and US veterans visiting Omaha Beach on June 6th for the annual commemoration ceremony had to apply for a visa well in advance and pay for it, of course.

Does this mean the French will be checking and stamping the Illegal Immigrants passports just before they leave for England
Didn't check their passports 80 years ago did they.
The fact that all the troops had their passports with them, makes me think that it was a stamp to remember the day by. I'm very patriotic, but I think this is an overreaction by our press.
They were told to have their passports with them.
It's not something you would normally have in your top pocket, whilst jumping out of the back of a plane.
Gun, ammo, rations, hypersonic shovel, oh don't forget your passport.
If it was a gesture by the french, could it have been done after the memorial, rather than during it.
Passport desks in the middle of a field !! Great reminder of such an important day !!
I would cherish that stamp as proof that I was there on this day. I would be taking pictures like mad. I am not offended. And please, I’m a vet so spare me your anger. Disagree, but be polite.
Gentlemen your papers please
Now where have I heard that before .
Not surprising at all. There was a time when France introduced a visa regime because of international terrorists striking on their mainland, and US veterans visiting Omaha Beach on June 6th for the annual commemoration ceremony had to apply for a visa well in advance and pay for it, of course.
And some people are thinking of rejoining the EU dictatorship .
As much as it pains me to say this. We have never been in the schengen agreement. We have always had to show our passports to get in to Europe. Now whilst I agree they could of made an exception for the troops yesterday. Rules are rules. and personally I like getting stamps in my passport. It gives me a little history and memory jogger for when I'm getting on a bit and my memory is foggy. Plus I had to go everywhere on a NATO travel order during my military service as i didn't have a passport
Expect nothing else from the French
So they weren't expecting to see french passport controls but luckily had their passports on them? Of course they were expecting that you tool!
That’s what Brexit is …USA soldiers had to show passports as well , the uk is a third country OUTSIDE the EU
The marines didn’t though as they landed by dinghy, they were given tea blankets and taken to migrant accommodation
treachrous ungreatful french! remember it was britian alone that in mid 1940, had to undertake a costly ww2 war debt to our then neutral & isolationist american cousins, just to be able to continual on the fight after the french gave up & hoisted up their white flag! a war debt that the british tax payer did not pay back to the usa till 2006! (with no help from the ungreatful western europeans that that debt that the british alone took out enabled to be free from facist dictators mussolini & hitler) what genoration our uk father were, for out of a bombsite, ration book britian they still managed to leave us, their britiah kids, a free at the point of use, NHS! free from cradle to grave, fantastic!
Paras did expect the check...it happened on a previous anniversary...I saw it myself on the 60th
Absolutely disgusting, disgraceful and shameful on them.
If I hadn’t have seen this with my own eyes I’d of thought it was a joke of some sort.
Put money on not one passport was checked on D-DAY. A bunch of jobs worths. Funny they do not check passport checks to the rubber boat people.
What a ridiculous farce.
As a french Canadian that have being staying in France several times and also visited England, i am ashamed that our great allied and brothers were treated that way by the the French customs.
I understand the feeling since i was subjected to a similar experience during my Air force years with the Canadian Armed forces.
I was coming back from an exercice at Barbers Point Naval Air Station in Hawaii to our own station at Canadian Forces Base Comox in British Columbia.
As soon as the propellers stopped turning on our CP 107 Argus patrol aircraft who was waiting for us at the bottom of the aircraft staircase?
You got it, ....our own Canadian Customs officers to greet us without the welcoming flowers necklace that greeted us in Hawaii where no one bother us with our passport but with a nice cold beer.
The senior French Customs officer could have easely made a friendly arrangement with the British paratrooper senior officer for this special event.
No wonder the Vichy government cooperated with the Nazi, they have an ego bigger than their head.
My time in the Army, France was the only country that would not let British army troops to pass through using only the Military I.D. Cards.
That is interesting. You have to wonder 'what were they thinking'?
@@BelloBudo007 It’s because they’re jealous of us
It was also the case that though France was part of NATO they never took part in NATO exercises.
It's so they got 6th June stamped in their passport...wallys
Utter rubbish.
That could have been done at any time of the day.
Not right in the middle of the f*cking memorial.
It was done out of french pettiness.
The French didn’t check the Americans passports though….
Never expected it but all had there passports to hand it was most probably bring your passports and they will be stamped with a special d day stamp you can cherish
I was furious when I heard this story, but seeing in the video of what happened I have changed my mind. Could it be that the French welcomed our lads and STAMPED their passports with a smile and a lovely greeting? Or am I being sentimental? I always wanted my passport to be stamped when I travelled the world with work, but didn't always get one. It felt to me as I had not been their. I always wanted the STAMP of approval.
This was done during the memorial to commemorate the heroes of D-Day. Not afterwards.
The couldn't even let the British soldiers get off the muddy field, away from the camera's.
It was a deliberate petty act.
Highlights of D-Day 80th anniversary. "And here we have the brave paratroopers queueing up in a field to get a stamp from a petty french bureaucrat."
Nobody gives a sh*t about the stamps in their passport. I've never thought about them, looked at them, or shown them to anyone.
@@DreadnoughtXXL Cut from different cloth. I latest passport has 24 stamps from 24 different countries as I visited 196 cities. Yes I am showing off, but why not. I have an incredible job. Stamps of approval. But, I do understand where you are coming from, I honestly felt the same at the time but sort changed it.
@@Lee.Willcox It used to be a thing, collecting passport stamps, a Boomer thing. These days, everyone has been everywhere. Friends and family prefer to see a few good photo's than the contents of a passport !!
I also travel with work. I'm more interested with the Business Lounge, than a stamp. I think maybe that is the difference here.
Maybe we are cut from different cloth, you seem to be in awe of travelling, whilst the rest of us just get on with it.
@@DreadnoughtXXL You are lovely. Good luck and all the best.
@@Lee.Willcox You sound like an old gay man.
Booooo a disgraceful act on the paratroopers...and the boat people come and go as they like booooo
Did they check the papers of the Wermacht as the marched in with their Jackboots on. What a disgraceful act of deliberate and engineered disrespect.
just taking the piss
It may have given each person a stamp giving them VIP status if ever again visitinng France.
Before jumping to conclusions get the true facts.
The resumption of innocence is the basis of English law.
@johnbenett7065 You have a childish interpretation of events. A parachute jump doesn't give VIP status. 🤡
* Did you mean 'presumption' of innocence ? 😂😂 (or are you sticking with 'resumption') 🤣🤣
The french can't be bothered checking the passports of untold thousands of dingy migrants.
But they find the time to check passports in the middle of D-Day commemorations.
They knew millions would see para's queued up in a muddy filed at pathetic little desks.
That's a disgusting way to celebrate D-Day heroes.
Were the Yanks paras subjected to the same humiliation?
They left without a passport check
No the weren't
It will be a historic stamp to have in their passports
I don't know why we have anything to do with these cowards.
Its like a Monty Python sketch. 😅
They should of claimed they were asylum seeker's 😅
Did they do the same in 1944 ?
I’m guessing not…..
Funny they didn't ask for them in 1944
the fact that Americans weren't asked to produce their passports sounds like discrimination against the British to me
It takes the piss. how many migrants they constantly send over. Our grandfathers and fathers died to defend the French
I wonder if the frogs demanded American Para's show their passports?
Passport checks!! Disgusting, despicable, disgraceful.
In our local town no flags were flown for D-Day 80 but today the town is festooned with flags Union Jacks and Pride…
French need I say more.
I don't know what all the fuss is about. We'd be doing the same in reverse . Rules is rules. 😅
Why would they have their passport on them .
Because the french are petty tw@ts.
I’m very liberal about immigration bet she is
Didn't ask for them 80 years ago shame on them
More bitterness and spite from the French authorities shame on them go check the bloody immigrants disgraceful 😤
Absolutely shameful on french government. When British troops delivered france their liberty from Germany. It seems like Germany still has control over france, via the EU.
Absolutely disgusting and absurd treatment. as so many have said ' no1 checked any passports 80 years ago. doubt thd German army would have stopped to check passports!
It's an excellent joke and as frogs we have known how to annoy rosbeffs for almost 1000 years.😂😂👍👍
Run away. We surrender. White flag. Onion muncher.
Our forefathers were never asked for passports on D-Day as most of the French had retreated
Absolutely everything that it is wrong with the EU, when their next day of need comes, and it will, just leave them and we can all just learn Russian.
They should have asked the customs for their passports because technically they don’t have a country, we won it while they ran.
Of course they expected to have to show passports. Why else would they bring passports and why else would there be a mobile French passport unit unit waiting for them?
What a non story we have bigger problems than this do some journalism
The Royal Marine Commando's waded ashore whilst the Para's queued up politely...🤣
Shows how weak our leadership is
Vote with your feet don't go to Paris or France as a whole don't buy their goods especially the wine plenty of nicer and cheaper plonk 😂😂😂😂😂😂and 😂😂
They were getting a special stamp in their passports. They were expecting it, you can see they were getting stamped. Honestly , check it out
😮😮 the french doing what...?..better come over to Germany....your Saxon brothers you are always welcome👍🇩🇪🇬🇧❤❤❤❤❤❤
They did not worry about passports 80 years ago....
Lucky the para's just happened to have included a passport as part of their survival kit, eh?🤨Jus' sayin'!
Dont forget guys these are our great friends and we are really missing out not being stuck in the same club as them. What a shame we left excuse me while I cry myself to sleep.
Why are we even in NATO with allies who hate us and actively hope we fail and shatter as a country???? Didnt exactly do us much in the Falklands when were attacked and the enemy used French missiles against us and the US called up to ask us to just give up cus they wanted to be buddies with a dictatorship.
