    I have head from many experts that the Suzuki 2 & 4 stroke engines were the very best engines ever put on a push mower. They had 6000 hours of life. Huge!

      I have two of the four stroke Suzukis on Toros, 32 & 33 years old, usually first pull start, no smoke, just amazing power. Toro dropped them in the late 80s and replaced them with Briggs Europa model engines to save money. I had heard the Suzuki engines were the ones that Honda copied.

    My friend bought one new back in the '80's I think he said it was $ 400.00 and it was just the basic push mower .I tried it out because I never saw one in action. The thing was a beast .He neglected it and it had starting problems, before he tossed it ,when visiting his shop one day he asked me if I wanted it I told him no thanks .On the way home I saw a Mint condition one at the curb I couldn't believe it .I grabbed it and brought it home and did take my friends for parts the next day .Now I somehow ended up with 4 of them and love them all, 2 push styles, one Commercial , one Recycler which is my favorite.

      You like your Recycler 2-cycle better than the Commercial 2-cycle? I wanted a commercial 2-cycle Suzuki for years before I found my 1991 Recycler 2-cycle and it is the best mower I have ever used. I have never had a chance to use the Commercial version. My 91 Recycler still starts with a half pull of the rope and it runs like a new mower. Its cut is better than my Honda HRX 217.

    Nice work, Home Garage. I hope your customer watches this video. You can of course use bulk gasket material and a small ball peen to cut all the shapes. And remember, 2-cycle engines vibrate more and mechanically crumble gaskets faster. Given the age and use of the machine, this is to be expected.

    • @HomeGaragechannel

    Great engines I have rebuilt many. I guess this was the early days of asbestos free gaskets, so there were quality issues till they got it right. These engines benefit greatly from a freshen up. Rings, bearings & oil seals. OEM rings were chrome plated, some aftermarket ones are not & would last as long. Chinese copy parts are around known as a 1E58FL engine there (Google That), but you cannot beat the real ones. For models without a primer like yours. Cold starting, stand mower on its nose with spark plug pointing down 5 seconds. This spills fuel out main jet into engine effectively priming it. Starts much easier.

    I have 3 Toro mowers with the Suzuki 2 cycle. Being piston ported, they definitely have a different sound than the reed valve Lawn-Boys. I forgot to mention, another item that can cause a 2 cycle not to start is bad crankcase seals. A backfire can blow the seal right out of the block.

      Back in the day it was toro commercial 2 cycle and they still are the best. Some things in the late 1990s were built in a way that would just be too $$$ now. For example golf clubs. The top irons back then were the big Bertha tungsten titanium irons , they were large irons made of solid titanium, which is too light , so to make it swing good and get under the ball they have a tungsten insert built into the bottom of the club face. These clubs cost 1999.95$ back then, that would be like paying 3284$ for a set of irons 3-pw. And since then we have not seen any major leaps on tech, similar to computers. Yes they get smaller faster and mass adopted, but no new type of computers or tech. Hell even movies are mostly just remakes. America is the land of innovation , but at this point we need some invention injected into society as well!

    I hoped you might help me. I have the same mower, just bought it since I miss my old one. It's in very good condition with very little wear, stored about 3 or 4 years according to previous owner with no gas in it. The carb looks brand new inside, but the mower at first almost felt siezed. I pulled the plug, sprayed some wd40 and was able to get a few cycles before it binds up again. It does have spark, clean fuel and the primer works. You just can't physically turn the motor fast enough to potentially start it. Its not the pull cord assembly itself as it does it with a manual cord wrapped around, but if you spin the blades, it cycles without any issue except normal compression. It's almost like when you pull the cord it has way too much compression so much so that you can't turn it over. Any suggestions? I much appreciate your knowledge on these fine engines.

    I read thru the comments and didnt see anything so take a look. Alot of the lawn guys use the cheap two stroke oil in gallon jugs. The carbon from this oil will literally fill in the exhaust port. Every few years, pull the muffler and knock the carbon out with a popcycle stick, blow the dust out with your air line. Good for another few years. Running these at 32:1 seems to be better than 50:1.

    • @HomeGaragechannel
      @HomeGaragechannel  2 года назад +1

      what I would do, would be to run, let it get hot, and then shut it off. Then try and start it, and if it does it again, I would remove the air filter and then squirt some fuel into the carbs, throat. If It starts immediately ,then it's a carb issue, But if it's still hard to start, then you could have a spark plug issue, or the valve lash is off and needs to be adjusted.

      @@HomeGaragechannel OK, just bought this exact Mower TODAY!!! So mine is a 2000 Model and the Owner bought it new for $1300. He used it until 2004 and then hired a company to take care of his yard. He moved from Oregon to Arizona and left the Mower at his Dad's home in Oregon. They wanted $300 for it but let me take it for $225. It looks pretty good except the bag is worn on the sides where it rubbed on the handle. It runs but will not idle. At idle, the RPM is all over the place and almost stalls. I would like to purchase a new Cloth Bag but do not know if any parts are available?
