Great video. Very informative. Have a great Christmas and we will see you next year. For a hobbyist you are doing great. You’re up there with a lot of so called techs.
Merry Christmas home garage, and a happy new year to ya. I've tried myself to use a battery mower. I ended up trading it in for a Honda mower. Been much happier ever since. As far as carburetors go I recommend use the best fuel you can find. Ethanol free.
I have dealt in new and used automotive batteries on and off for years, and I am really interested in them. I would love to see you do a video repairing a battery.
hey hg, you inspired and helped me to get into small engines. im 16 and do landscaping as a side hustle, recently i took the old oil out my lawn mower and put some new oil. my lawn mower has been overspinning it spins to fast so i turn it off quicky. i can smell gas in the oil thing?any tips?
Let me give you a warning. My father is a retired master of electrical / electronics and a retired building engineer and has attempted this feat with success and some failures. The failures weren’t his fault; it was because after all of the hours of work involved, he found out that the computer board is bad. he was doing this for a customer who wanted to re-tool the batteries and then sell them at his store. Because we don’t have but one and that’s for a small portion of my parent’s yard that cannot be done with a riding mower because of the angle. The failed attempts were not because of my father, it’s because of the engineering of those batteries. It is very difficult to undo the solder and re-solder then eventually you’re out a couple to several hours and then you’ll find out that the computer board in the battery is bad. Trust me, it will be more frustration than it is worth. For me personally, that’s why I stick to gasoline power equipment unless it’s just something like a simple hedge trimmer which can run off my Milwaukee M-18 batteries. With all this said, the Milwaukee M 18 batteries are a better success at rebuilding versus the larger batteries of lawn mowers.
I'm experience with an engine, if it cuts out when it's hot & it's not the valves or ignition system which is causing the r to cut out then it could also be due to the fact that the engine is worn out. I am talking about lawn equipment rather than a car because I have found that a fault in a cars electrical system can cause that as well !
this was quite puzzling for me too, I figured the valve clearances would be way out of tolerance but on I find that Hondas hold them better than most others brands. This time the clearances were only a bit out and the engine had great compression. That only left replacing the carb and that fixed the issue. Who knows, it'll probably be different the next time around.
I got my Poulan PBV 200 LE running pretty well. It starts on the third pull, and I think I have the idle where it needs to be. It does seem to be using more gas than I think it should, but I think it is good. I just tuned by ear, and this was my first attempt at this style of carb.
I didn't believe you on the underside of the deck until I pulled one out of the trash that was thrown away because there was so much grass buildup that it was stopping the blade from turning. I got a nice mower for free, and it took less than ten minutes to get it running. I clean them religiously now.
Your mower will last a long time ! Even 99 dollar specials plus they bag and mulch better with clean decks. By the way I better get out and get some mowing done and leaves picked up !
is your grass still green there? Mine is brown, so I'm trying not to use the mower in an attempt to not damage the dried grass. Just leaf blowing instead.
@HomeGaragechannel Still green ,some flowers are actually still blooming . The grass here only goes brown in the summer if you don't water . This should be the last cut till after the New Year unless a storm rolls through to clean up after!
Riiiight. The lawn would never get mowed and be a jungle! Just rinse it when you are done underneath after each mowing and keep it coated underneath. Fertilizer is the bigger cause of rust anyways .Also just don't use a cheap steel mower if you are not going to take care of it.
@@MUUKOW3 I don't have any problem waiting for my own lawn to dry before mowing now if you cut 25 lawns a day that's different and yes fertilizer is very corrosive that's why I will only use stainless steel hardware in that environment and that's also why I will tell you not to mow for 24 hours after I lay one down after that you're going be mowing twice a week and there's your jungle 🦍
Nope, lol. There is no way in hell that I would do an unnecessary carb job on a Honda just to make a video. I don't blame you. I finally got the mower from hell out of my shop after two years. I'm swearing off Hondas for life. I spent more time trying to get that mower to run correctly than I have on every other machine I have ever worked combined, and I lost money on the deal.
The idea of SCRAPPING a mower instead of buying new batteries is very concerning. I understand the pure dollars & cents but the impact to the environment AND small engine specialists scares me.
I know right and in my mind, it was never about the environment, It was about making more money. I think battery mowers are much easier to manufacture so for them, the "margins" are a lot higher. But the margins for selling OEM batteries are much smaller.
No questions just have a good christmas and a great New year
Thank you Alfred and the same to you!

Thank you Mike!
Honestly, you answer and take more time out than anyone. You have helped me more than once. I appreciate it.
I appreciate it, it's the least I can do for those that watch .
Looking forward to the battery refurbished video!

I appreciate that, I'm just trying to help folks out.

I haven't got a question but I wish you a happy holidays and a amazing new year sir and thank you for the information you gave us
Thank you Andrew Johnston, I wish the same for you and your family.
FINE Q&A! Happy weekend!
Thank you, I appreciate it!
@@HomeGaragechannel Likewise!
If I mow the grass in the nice cool morning, it’s all wet and sticks to the deck . If I mow in the hot afternoon, it stays clean.
you are correct! I only mow when the grass is wet if it's imperative, otherwise, late afternoon it is.
Another great video sir!
Thank you very much!

I'm definitely considering it, but it's a bit out of my wheelhouse. I'll need to buy some specialized equipment though but I'm up for the challenge.

tuning it by ear is all I ever do. I don't ever use a tachometer but it's good to have one around

I know right, I found one like that a decade ago and it surprised me too. It had at least 10 lbs of dirt under it.
I clean the mower deck after each use, and spray light coat of wd40, which keeps clippings from accumulating heavy, when I mow in the morning.

My opinion for keeping mower deck clean is simply don't mow wet grass and when ever possible let it fly out the side discharge instead of mulching

ah yes, the side discharge unfortunately some decks don't come with one. I wonder if they have a rear chute attachment then to discharge it?
you make a point, I only mow wet grass if I have to and promptly wash it afterwards
@@HomeGaragechannel no attachment needed
