Looking at Tokido video. Daigo was truly the beast at that time. He won the cpt qualifier and shock the world with his footsie. It was after the fact he got wash on Topanga that year and he want to change his game after that. Sad to see Capcom Cup that time didn't materialise. He injured his finger and play on lever controller but still thrash Gachikun at that time.
Way way back in SF4 era, i modded a madcatz controller to be a hitbox. Had to create a new faceplate and rewire the inside to use my own buttons. It was such a HUGE difference that I couldn't turn back. Only downside is since I made it custom to my hands, i can't exactly buy a manufactured hitbox now, as the layout is cramped compared to what I'm used to. Still, my old hitbox works just fine so I'll use it till it dies.
If you decide to upgrade, AllFightSticks (the basis of a majority of custom fightsticks nowadays) can make custom layouts to your liking. They can also make you an acrylic to match and provide you with a custom art template via FocusAttack. So, when AFS isn’t super swamped with orders (give it a week or two minimum), I’d send them an email with pictures and references of your layout and see if they can help!

And I didn't know about half this stuff when I got it, it just seemed like it'd obviously offer more precision. tbh, at that time I didn't even know joysticks had the little nooks to catch the stick and make directions easier. excellent video!
I also am not used to joystick. I tried Hitbox control layout on a keyboard. It's difficult at first but when it clicks it's really fun to play with the movements. What is a good entry level leverless controller, and one of the best in your opinion?
Dude! I couldn't...wouldn't...even play much before leverless. I could never get proper left right on an arcade stick, & the shoulder buttons on controller were less useful to me. The d-pad would eventually shred my thumb too. Buying a SnackBox Micro fixed all that. Now I just need to buy a music stand because I need it at the perfect height everywhere I go.
Because of the dash benefit, I don't think Tokido will go back to stick, especially hitbox is very compact for tournament. Double-tap dash then instantly charge, that require some practice, it's two hands work.
I play hitbox as well and one of the disadvantages of the hitbox is that they're not optimized for older games so games like classic SF, KOF or KI are actually harder, input leniency of modern games is what allows hitboxes to thrive, I wonder if at some point devs will hard code things like 1 frame delays into the motion inputs or disable some typical HB shortcuts.
bought my hit box 2 weeks ago and disappointed on how easy it was to use, my execution on arcade stick was something I’m proud of, this controller is just unfair 🫡
@@pastorr6989 what are you talking about? execution on hitbox is not easy, maybe some basic things might be easier than on stick, but you have so many techniques with double taping, and alternate right and left hand, super jumps, double pianoing with both hands, also the multiple shorcuts you can only do on hitbox, you have to practice all of that, condition your left hand, and then use it in a real match, I think you're tripping or you don't really have a hitbox.
@@KusanagiMotoko100 once you have practiced enough with a hitbox, you will see how fast inputs come out compared to using a fightstick. for me to wavu wavu side -step hellsweep on stick i need to use my thumb to push up after 2 crouch dashes, on hitbox, you can do that shit pretty much instantly. on hitbox the input for downfoward is a tap compared to using a lever and PUSHING it into downfoward. giving it a more accurate/easier timing for df and 2 at the same time. of course you must know how to use the hitbox and its a lot of work, but not as much as a fightstick imo. not saying i am against hitboxes because used a keyboard to play fighting games for months before i could afford a real fightstick. also it would be very sad seeing a top 8 evo with everyone using hitboxes, doubt that would ever happen, but who knows lmao. maybe im jus a hater

the amounts of players with a hitbox/button box/leverless in top evo was really suprising at the beginning to me, we usually watch tons of arcade and pad players and some hitbox here and there but this evo i get the impresion every 2 matches there was at least 1 hitbox/leverless controller on stage
Well it wasnt the case for years tho, like 10 years or so u barely see leverless in tournaments compared to stick and pad. Just recently somehow ppl realized its power i guess, or they know already gut dont want to take effort to switch.
More people are using it, the higher the chance we see them in top evo. Also why looking at tournaments for tier lists can be shaky. Is there 4 of that character in top 8 because it's the best in the game. Or that the best players are using it.
Man, playing on a stick for 30+ years feels like a bite in the butt now... I don't know if my brain could make the switch to button controlled movement!
Fighting games especially older ones were programmed with traditional levered controls in mind. Using all button controls to play a fighting game is like playing DDR on keyboard or controller instead of a dance platform. Of course the player using his hands instead of feet is going to be more efficient, have less travel and fatigue. but is it how the game was intended to be played?
i play on WASD mixbox and often find myself wishing i had a jump button for things like instant air dashes in gg. but in tekken its perfection cuz its intuitive stepping wise. so i think the most optimal controller would be something like a shift+WASD+space mixbox. which is really just a keyboard actually
GGST is a game that let's you bind the dash button. Makes it even faster. I can do instant air dashes from jump for some good mixes. Highly recommend trying it out. Takes some getting used to though.

Cheatbox all the way. This video only analyzed the sheer speed of the input, but that's only a fraction of it's power. Precision. Abusing the SOCD priority and Neutrals. The fact that it's all face buttons also means frame perfect inputs involving directionals and an attack can be done with one hand eliminating the challenge altogether. Overall, it just abuses balance that was intended by the game developers. Charge attacks have the properties they do with the idea that they must be charged. You bypass the intended buffers by using the cheatbox. Frame perfect inputs like electrics in Tekken are hard to input on a levered input (Lever with 2 hands) and as such, have incredibly good properties. The cheatbox makes Kazuya's perfect electrics even easier to input than his regular one. So why does the perfect version have better properties? Because Tekken has always been balanced around a levered controller and has never had to deal with a controller that cheats. SOCD cleaning and priority is merely a setting for the cheatbox, and it will only output to the game whatever you want it to. So there's no programming against it to prevent these advantages. It's nothing short of a macro to get the intended inputs you want. I'm not saying you can't win, or that it's even that big a deal. But I am saying, you brought a metal bat to an MLB game where they traditionally use wooden ones. The entire field, it's dimensions and standards for homeruns were designed with wooden bats in mind. You'd be cheating using a metal one.
@@neoillogic basicslly lol. I dont see they will ban hitbox too as it would mean to ban pad also. What they can do just fix button priority to 1st button prio, like james chen said. At least it will get rid of the socd cleaning advantage. About more precise and faster movement tho? Well just like u said, the future is now 😂😂
Imagine defending a trash controller like the arcade stick just because you don't like the actual optimal controller for fighting games. Movement is so important in fighting games, yet fgc boomers insist on using the most asinine way of doing it, which is the stick (which is ridiculous, considering most fighting games are 2D). What I like is that you don't even realize how much better a regular PS4 controller is than an arcade stick and the fact it can also use SOCD tricks by employing its d-pad and joystick at the same time. You're so focused on "cheatboxes" you don't realize you have been getting fucked by console controllers for a long time
cool video nephew! I see that you modded your hitbox controller, was it hard to do? Would you share resources you've used to learn how to do that? Thanks!
all i did was replace the buttons with silent buttons, should be able to look it up on youtube. just use a screwdriver to take out the back and then you might need pliers to detach the wires the first time
@@NephewDork the buttons are still the 24mm ones right? I ask bc stuff like double tapping with the stock Santa buttons feel way harder to do than on the regular 30mm ones
At EVO it looked like some sort of modded leverless controller. I don't think its a standard readily available option you can purchase. I could be wrong, though.
One thing is that "there are some inputs that the Lever control does slightly better", that is the "half circle input", examples are "yoga fire" on dhalsim or a "DP from a guarding (backward) position", and the "consecutive quarter-circle inputs", such as CA inputs in many shoto characters. I would like to mention Mago still says "You don't need to switch to Hitbox to reach the top level, unless you're using a charge character".
Hitbox actually has so many tricks/shortcuts that make all of these inputs faster than on stick, I don't think lever has a single advantage other than being extremely satisfying to use. If you look at the hitbox channels' playlists, theres one going over the various shortcuts that I'd never thought about being possible
In my opinion its laughable that keyboards are not allowed (or simply can't be used due to setup) at tournaments. It's the easiest way to emulate leverless setups for the majority of people and works perfectly. Also hard to understand why people simply disregard the keyboard as a viable option to play - because that's what it is - everyone already owns a hitbox :)
i remember playing mvc1 on MAME like 13 yrs ago on my keyboard cuz i had no other way to play fighting games and even back then i immediately felt a difference and precision i never got with stick or controller. levers seem so primitive now lmao
What sucks is bothering to go through all the steps to optimize input latency, but you're still stuck with the garbage experience that is playing SFV over the internet. Really hoping VI has good rollback implementation.
It actually isn't though. You have to dedicate two buttons to one finger, whereas with the standard Hitbox layout you have a finger (or in up's case two fingers) to hit any direction. This is particularly useful since it allows you to 1f Flash Kick, and also gives you access to shortcuts like the 3f SRK.
@@c.conga11 You definitely could do those things, but it would require you awkwardly position your hand. The SRK shortcut requires you piano and hold foward>down>Up+P. You would have to reposition your index or ring finger to do that. The same would apply to doing a flash kick input. Due to how the game reads inputs you can skip the neutral input completely on a controller by continuing to hold down while hitting Up+K. At the end of the day it is best to play on what you are most comfortable on, but if we are talking about which controller is objectively better between the Mixbox and the Hitbox, then the Hitbox has all the advantages of the Mixbox, and is in a much more ergonomic form.
@@c.conga11 the input 639+P input is faster because you don't have to release any buttons while inputting it. If perfectly done each input should only take a frame each. There are a few videos here on RUclips that go over this method, but it is exclusive to SF4 and SF5
They need to ban Hitbox asap in tournaments otherwise everyone will end up getting a Hitbox that takes away the joy of using a lever. Maybe I'm gonna have to go play Tekken where everyone uses a joysyick.
The huge input lag of the Playstation used on EVO neglects much of the input speed benefits of the hitbox when compared to PC. Just see how hard was checking iDom's Thunder Clap on reaction. Not taking any merit from iDom excellent gameplay, but being under Thunder Clap cover was fundamental for his pressure, and that just wouldn't have happened had EVO being disputed on PC.
The worst thing to ever come out smh this doesn’t take skillz I could have my daughter do the same shit that (pros) can do so easy sucks these players are been the new puppets of gaming industry and now everyone will be on this hit box there is nothing better than using a stick! Real skillz

You'd be cheating using a metal one.
this is the future old man
@@neoillogic basicslly lol.

Nerds!!! LOL! Let’s get it, I’m thinking of trying it out but worried I won’t like it. I know I dislike Fight Pad.
cool video nephew! I see that you modded your hitbox controller, was it hard to do? Would you share resources you've used to learn how to do that? Thanks!
all i did was replace the buttons with silent buttons, should be able to look it up on youtube. just use a screwdriver to take out the back and then you might need pliers to detach the wires the first time
@@NephewDork sweet thank you! keep up the good work, big fan!
@@NephewDork the buttons are still the 24mm ones right? I ask bc stuff like double tapping with the stock Santa buttons feel way harder to do than on the regular 30mm ones
@@ahadkhan3486 yes, those are Gamerfinger 24mm buttons
What controller is tokidos??
He plays hitbox nowadays
At EVO it looked like some sort of modded leverless controller. I don't think its a standard readily available option you can purchase. I could be wrong, though.
@@markmononoke7672 wasnt what tokido used just a hitbox?
Tokido's controller is created by punkworkshop and custom button.
Yet another reason why I'm never getting back into fighting games, no matter how much I may want to. I refure to have to worry about milliseconds
Yeah punk was right. That really is the "cheatbox"
Absolutely
You got no loyalty navajo
In my opinion its laughable that keyboards are not allowed (or simply can't be used due to setup) at tournaments. It's the easiest way to emulate leverless setups for the majority of people and works perfectly. Also hard to understand why people simply disregard the keyboard as a viable option to play - because that's what it is - everyone already owns a hitbox :)
i remember playing mvc1 on MAME like 13 yrs ago on my keyboard cuz i had no other way to play fighting games and even back then i immediately felt a difference and precision i never got with stick or controller. levers seem so primitive now lmao
It might be one day, the best reason to allow hitbox is that it emulates the most accessible controller rn which is KB.
Hitbox dash looks like somthing out of a tas
wait no go back i want to know how to optimize my setup
pc, 240+ hz monitor, overclock controller to 1000hz
Hitbox is just a fancy keyboard 😭😭
This guy sounds like Tina from bob's burgers
Sf6 is getting a dash macro anyway don't y'all think? If that happens this difference becomes null
there is no sign of this happening
justin wong uses a hitbox.
What sucks is bothering to go through all the steps to optimize input latency, but you're still stuck with the garbage experience that is playing SFV over the internet. Really hoping VI has good rollback implementation.
Why not just use a touchscreen. then its 0.0 mm travel for a button press & can be setup to any pressure for the button to go off.
I still feel like a WASD Mixbox layout is still better
It actually isn't though. You have to dedicate two buttons to one finger, whereas with the standard Hitbox layout you have a finger (or in up's case two fingers) to hit any direction. This is particularly useful since it allows you to 1f Flash Kick, and also gives you access to shortcuts like the 3f SRK.
@@Mufnman64 You can do those things on WASD layout as well. For me it's just more intuitive having the "up" button above the other directions
@@Mufnman64 I think you may be overcomplicating the shoryuken, I can already do it perfectly fine using the 121 shortcut
@@c.conga11 the input 639+P input is faster because you don't have to release any buttons while inputting it. If perfectly done each input should only take a frame each. There are a few videos here on RUclips that go over this method, but it is exclusive to SF4 and SF5
BAN HITBOX
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I think for Tekken these should be banned from competitive.
funny thing, everyone told me I was an idiot 20 years ago for using this. And when the double perfect popped up I was cheap :D
This video literally started the great hitbox migration and for some reason you will never get proper credit for it.
They need to ban Hitbox asap in tournaments otherwise everyone will end up getting a Hitbox that takes away the joy of using a lever. Maybe I'm gonna have to go play Tekken where everyone uses a joysyick.
Cause they watch too much javs!!
Woooa
why not just use keyboard duh
Ask idom almost destroy all Japanese gods with a ps pad what about that ?
The huge input lag of the Playstation used on EVO neglects much of the input speed benefits of the hitbox when compared to PC. Just see how hard was checking iDom's Thunder Clap on reaction. Not taking any merit from iDom excellent gameplay, but being under Thunder Clap cover was fundamental for his pressure, and that just wouldn't have happened had EVO being disputed on PC.
@@ok-tchau so....best solution, increase input lag so all controllers mostly closer to being equal xD. SFV was the future all this time xD
CHEATING! ITS CHEATING! REEE! xd
What is this turbo controller xd

Why is tokido wearing a doctors outfit

The worst thing to ever come out smh this doesn’t take skillz I could have my daughter do the same shit that (pros) can do so easy sucks these players are been the new puppets of gaming industry and now everyone will be on this hit box there is nothing better than using a stick! Real skillz
Ill be waiting till ur daughter wins evo then, lemme know if that happens later.
