Love your video you helped me out I was wondering if I should get a SB micro i have a razer panthera I converted to hitbox bought the top piece at focusattack but I ordered snack box micro art version with convex buttons with updated brook board that let's you play on all latest system excited to see which I prefer.
The Snackbox is the overall better fight box. It's latest versions are compatible with all current and last gen home consoles as well as PC. No proprietary cables to worry about as all that's needed is a standard USB-C cable. Its pretty much perfect. Junkfood Arcade did the damn thing. Hitbox has a ways to go in comparison.
@MunsterNation The HITBOX manufacturers can catch up if they make competent alterations to the current design. No fight stick or controller should be using proprietary cables when we live in an age of the durable USB-C cable. Hell, Victrix recently released their hitbox style fighting controller, and yeah it's ridiculously expensive, but it's selling. It's a great controller. Hitbox really needs to update it's design for quality of life improvements.
But what happens when it comes to upgrading can you just upgrade the snack box PCB is a different type right the hitbox you just use whatever brook makes. Not saying the hitbox is better just saying what I think old correct me :)
I was looking up reviews for the Snackbox because I was considering buying one, and this guy really seems like he knows what he's talking about. Shame he revealed part way through that he's a Zato player. I'll still consider it though.
I have a Victrix Pro FS12, SnackBox Micro, and a Chinese knockoff of the Snackbox Micro called a "FightBox". My favorite is actually the Chinese knockoff. It just feels the best, has the best buttons, and was only like $80. In my opinion, the SnackBox Micro is expensive but feels cheap, and the FightBox is cheap but feels expensive. The Victrix is expensive and feels expensive, as it should. Oddly enough, my least favorite is the Victrix. It feels great and all, and it might just be my technique, but it doesn't register every input. Even if it's my technique that's the issue, it will definitely be solved with a different type of button, which I will try. It's also not very comfortable on my lap. The width is perfect, but the depth is too much. I actually have to move my chair further away from my desk than normal, or the Victrix will hit it. In my opinion, you should do what I did. Buy a cheap Chinese "Fightbox" to see if you'll even like these types of controllers, then upgrade later if you want. However, the FightBox is actually pretty great. It's my favorite.
why the fuck. is something like a snackbox, a plastic(?) housing with 12 fuckin switches and a pcb more expensive than something like a full Wooting hall effect switch keyboard with hand pre-lubed switches, foam inserts, steel (I think) switch mount, etc. etc? It's basically a keyboard with 12 switches instead of like... 104?? I don't understand the pricing at all.
Not quite the same economies of scale. Also, the SnackBox PCB is designed to work with various platforms, rather than the platforms being designed to work with the keyboard. Mobile app for different platforms. Higher average wage per man hour. Centralized support and customer service with quick and effective turn around times. Supply/demand. Loads of reasons beyond the bill of materials.
I feel this definitely sold me on saving up for a Snack Box instead of a Hitbox, because I love how compact it is, and the fact it's compatible with every system.
I was considering the Hitbox just because it's the first one I ever heard about, but I think I'll get the Snackbox XL. All the reviews put the SB far above the HB, and although the SB is a bit more expensive (and out of stock), I'm willing to wait for what seems like a vastly better product.
As far as the hitbox goes with PS5 support, you can use the Brook FGC converter dongle thing or you can use the breakout kit which allows you to connect a ufb with an up5 extension (I think that’s the right word) to allow for native PS5 connection without the need for a converter.
Yeah I agree but at the same time that takes another amount of money out of my wallet plus shipping and imports. I wish they just upgraded the board already
@MunsterNation don't know but I personally feel like I'm playing on an arcade cabinet in arcade shop when using snackbox than feeling like using a keyboard on PC.
I think the snackbox is better for people with smaller hands for the smaller buttons, hitbox vice versa. This style also feels very natural coming from a piano background, literally pressing keys lol
I haven't used either controller a ton, but the snackbox micro feels way more comfortable to me than the hitbox. It also just feels like a more premium product in my opinion for about the same price (or less)
Thanks for this! Been playing on a stick for ages but been interested in these recently. The snackbox really caught my eye since its small and not something that would get in the way when not playing. Also did not know the hitbox doesn't support PS5 (yet?) Hopefully they have a presance at EVO Japan so I can try/buy one directly~ Giving a thumbs up and a sub for great info!
I think I'm getting a Snackbox One Piece black, but also with the heavy metal back plate, & will probably grab some 25g switches I saw NihongoGamer talk about a while back.
Thank you very much. After years suffering to adapt to stick control (and discovering I'm three times better with just a pad), I honestly hate all things related to it, so knowing the Hitbox is more similar to "traditional" (puke) stick make it an easy choice for me.
Good review but you didnt compare how they perform.. Hitbox proprietary cable is terrible. I need a much longer cable and they dont offer it. It should be universal usb c.
I mean from my experience in terms of latency they feel about the same, and I did touch on performance for specific playstyles (i.e., sliding techniques) and how those affect your experience with either controller, as well as touched on the board differences and compatibility.
@@MunsterNation gotcha! I was debating between Victrix fs 12 (for sanwa, comfort and usb c) or mpress V2 (a little bigger for forearms to lean on, different buttons, & still pretty light overall)
Thanks for the review. BUT! "It's the same spacing"? Are you serious? :D Not only are the right most buttons angled downwards on the snackbox and not on the hitbox, the spaces are definitely NOT the same. On the snackbox the jump button is a bit more to the left, the down button is on the same vertical line instead of a bit more up on the hitbox, and so on and so forth. Maybe nitpicky but man, the spacing is not the same at all. If anything just the general layout is the same.
I bet the margins they make on these are absolutely ridiculous. There are mechanical keyboards with more intricate manufacturing, way more switches and keycaps that cost less than this. You're essentially buying a $5 alibaba pcb, switches, plastic caps housed in a thin piece of plastic for $250++ ridiculous. i'll wait in 5 years until there's more competition and the price becomes realistic
From my knowledge. The product is entirely made in house with CNC machines, and the pcbs are sent in from Brooke which are highly reputable and high quality. The switches are also custom to fit this specific controller properly, you could for sure build your own with alibaba parts but it wouldnt be next to near the quality level or performance level.
MPress on a design level looks fantastic, I'm not sure about software for it though, I'd need to do more research, but I'd love to have an MPress or Victrix Box if they weren't so damn expensive LOL
I have both. I like the hitbox significantly more. The buttons on the snackbox just don't do it for me. I love the real arcade buttons on the hitbox. Plus hitbox is made out of metal and feels way more premium to me. It also DOES work on PS5 so idk why you said it doesn't. I literally just played a small tournament in May at an anime convention and the hitbox worked on all the PS5's with no adapter. Edit: I guess it depends on the game. I was playing DBFZ on PS5 so my hitbox worked but next gen only games won't work without an adapter.
What controller will you be buying? Hitbox or Snackbox?
Wasnt going to go with either and just stick to my fightbox but i realized the snackbox has an xl version so snackbox for sure
@affinity Snackbox gang 😎

I am special though, i can be beaten regardless the controller that I am using.
I play on hitbox, but mine is made out of cardboard
That’s just as cool tbh if not way cooler
how expensive was it
@@pumpkincoffee Around 68$ excluding shipping
The main benefit for the hitbox for me is the size and weight. Also the felt pad at the bottom just makes it super nice
Completely agree, I really like the hefty and premium feel of the hitbox. It is a bit heavy though lol
I have a hitbox and I need to either somehow find an adapter/modify my hitbox or get a snackbox for ps5 compatibility.
Thanks for this review!

Dam Bro, Victrix Pro FS12 isn't the best one for you? That cost a ton.
Whereabouts did you purchase the Fightbox? I'd like to try this type of controller but not necessarily excited about dropping 300$ for one.
Same. But I need Xbox support. Do the knockoffs have that?
Which version of the Fightbox do you have? The bigger B1, or the Mini?
These are 'cheap knockoffs'? I'm showing the Fightbox F8 with the ufb-up5 chip is $329!
I went to Junkfoodarcades and almost everything is sold out. Crazy.
It still is
Not anymore!!
Bought 2023 Snackbox Micro with one piece case. I don’t care for artwork and the one piece case is sturdier.
I love it. It’s absolutely amazing.
It truly is the perfect controller for fighting games

Thank you for watching!! 😁
I'm going to EVO this year. I hope they're both there so I can compare the two. Living in the UK the shipping cost for either of them is too much.
The snackbox is just a keyboard with 10 keys, they use cherry switches (keybhoard). They're just charging an arm and a leg for no reason.
bentobox are made in uk so maybe check them out, I don’t have one but it seemed like the best alternative
FightBox F1 is $50 more but PS5/PS4/PS3/PC ready now. The F9 version if you like your buttons a bit larger.
snackbox is awesome to carry around and play with anywhere
Can you get the classic feel from Snackbox too?
Its much closer to a keyboard than a classic arcade button feel
@MunsterNation don't know but I personally feel like I'm playing on an arcade cabinet in arcade shop when using snackbox than feeling like using a keyboard on PC.

what is the top button refer to? start, select, ...?
So yeah that hit box is pretty sweet I want one
Go for it! Great controller
Soo with an adapter would work on Xbox ?
Snackbox with convex caps feels more traditional and I am surprised it's not the default.
Nice review, gonna get the snack box
AYY WELCOME TO THE CLUB!
Are the smaller buttons (Home, L3, R3, etc.) on the Micro hard to press? In previous versions they did I'm not sure about the 2023 editions now.
Essentially the same. Not that I found them difficult at all...

Does hitbox work on PS5? plug and play
Not at the moment, no
I just wanna know what are the million buttons on the smashbox? And why are they so many
It's because in Smash you have to use a CStick so I think some buttons make up the C Stick

It's so furry that it's becoming alive.
