The Martian Invasion of Surrey-Chapter 2: The Artillery Man's Story

- The Army destroyed; Woking and Horsell in flames. Tripods on the rampage. An Artillery Man has a lucky escape and describes his experiences. This is the second chapter in my ongoing project to animate H G Wells' book "The War of the Worlds". In 1906 the French translation of "War of the Worlds" was published with illustrations by a Brazilian artist, Henrique Alvim Corrêa and this CGI animated film based upon Wells’ novel draws heavily upon Correa’s images.
The "Woking History and Heritage" website:
wokinghistory....
provides a detailed description of the Woking area and explains how Wells used actual locations in which to stage his Martian invasion. I have used these locations in the film with specific references to road names and buildings which were there in Wells' neighbourhood in Woking. For example, the Narrator's house (which is not where Wells lived) has been identified as "Pooks Hill", at the top of Maybury Hill. I have constructed "Pooks Hill" as I think it may have looked in Victorian times.

Loving that Spielberg Reference™.
same
Have you even read the book
@@achilleswileyhave YOU even read the book?
Yes
the animations are really amazing I can see the scenarios of the works of the artist Henrique Alvim Corrêa in it, WHICH MAKES IT MORE INCREDIBLE AND SPECTACULAR EVEN!!
Seeing a Oneshot Niko profile picture just makes it 200% more.
I much prefer the appearance of these tripod fighting machines to the ones depicted in the artwork commissioned for Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of War of the Worlds. While I love the soundtrack of Jeff Wayne's Musical Version, I always felt that the tripods depicted weren't sufficiently alien in design. They almost looked like something humans would build, if asked to construct a walking tripod machine. These, on the other hand, definitely feel sufficiently weird and frightening.
I kind of agree, but it was the sleek military look of Jeff Wayne's design that made me really scared of the concept. They look insectoid and fast, and those mosquito eyes were quite alien to me! I know that the designs weren't true to the novel, but in principle I think Michael Trim got it correct.
how dare you dump on my favourite tripod design
@@therandomkidyoutubeTo be completely fair, I don't actually"like" this tripod design; I simply prefer it to the ones in Jeff Wayne's Musical Version. The best version of all is the one developed for the upcoming video game, which is itself a derivative of the design from Stephen Spielberg's War of the Worlds film. 😊
@@kentslocum oh hell no did you just call the 2005 one the best one
@@therandomkidyoutube I wan't a fan of the story or the aliens in the 2005 version, but I loved the tripod designs!
This is precisely how I imagined the book going, absolutely fabulous work being done here!
6:00 I like how this scene is from Steven Spielberg’s 2005 War Of The Worlds movie.
Picked the reference
I thouight so!
True
Yes you uwu
That's ture
That refference to the 2005 version take me by surprise!!!
Absolutely amazing. War of the worlds is so underappreciated, just like your great work!
Well it's pretty recognised as one of the first true scifi books, plus the alien tripod has become a trope in itself, so I wouldn't call it underappreciated.
5:09 That image is the stuff of nightmares.
3:29 military getting murdered by Martians meanwhile in the background *happy music plays*
3:00(Also the Martian on the right just did a perfect 180 rotation right there and then)
This is great! Loved the little nods to the 2005 film, and it's really interesting to finally see these machines in motion.
A while back I got my hands on a PDF of Corrêa's original edition, it has a lot more illustrations than the more commonly known ones. I could send it to you if you'd be interested, might help in figuring out the order of the illustrations as well.
That would be great if it could be arranged. How would it work on a public forum?
@@kevinmccullen1 Will admit that I didn't think it through that far. I was considering E-Mail, but your channel doesn't have one listed. Could try just posting a drive link, but that seems like something they wouldn't let me put in a comment.
@@kevinmccullen1 I tried sending the link and can confirm that the comment was deleted. Might show up in the studio page, not sure how that works
Hi. My email address is in the video description above. Click the "Show more" button. I will delete the reference later. Many thanks.
@@kevinmccullen1 Nice, sent an E-Mail.
5:50 you did a little recreation of the 2005 Film right? love it!
Love the way you've animated the fighting machines, as this 1906 design is one of my favourites (I also believe it was HG Wells favourite). Great to see them in action. 👍
Like how the martians just bulid different martians tripods but for one martian tripod that looks like a ball . IT HAS NO ARMS
I'm looking forward to when "The Thunder Child" makes it's debut!
Brilliant work, really enjoying the 2 episodes so far 😁👍 I can see now where James gets his artistic abilities from - I know him from local parkrun a few years back.
Amazing animation I love the little nod to the 2005 film at the end
Your work is AMAZING, thank you so much for taking the time to do this!
So much better than the BBC one mini series. Where this version is pretty much following the story instead of changing the story all together.
This is excellent absolutely excellent almost reminds me of how i imagined the events as i first read the book
Good job at doing this project with war of the worlds 1906 and its great and excellent . I hope you can releases the other martian machines like the martian flying machine and martian handling machine and the martian tripod with the black smoke
PLEASE MAKE MORE OF THESE!!
The people: running desperately for their lives to not get brutally incapacitated by the heat ray or incarcerated by the Martians
Music: nice hip pity hop pity piano
love the animation, but it just amazes me of how the Army only had one piece of artillery unit and simply ran away after it exploded, like the wastage of manpower was not worth it ( well I it shouldn't be suprising considering the fact that the army was not expecting such a powerful weapon)
The walking you did for the tripods gave then so much personality
excellent reference to the 2005 war of the worlds
I like how you used the original models because I think they are the best
The only problem I have with you is wing the old models is that they look a bit goofy with the eyes
1:05 I would actually leave the house if I saw that a mile away
5:44 i love how he mades the war of the world 2005 reference
I saw war of the worlds earlier today for the 7th time in a week and realized the man with the child and the tripod walking next to the house which the soldier is hiding behind also happened in the movie I was so confused but still shocked at the same time
what timestamp was it?
5:43
I love this. I simply just love it. It’s so unique.
Great interpretation of the era. The British self-control of sitting by the study window, and sipping whiskey, while the Earth is being invaded by aliens.
when he is hiding on the house the tripod passed by like in 2005 tripod
I like how you’re kind of making your own story to see. I’m excited for the rest
This is way too amazing, I really NEED a part 3
Glad you like it. Probably be a few months before Chapter three I'm afraid.
Yep, I"m really loving this.
i like this animation about the War of the Worlds👍
The Happy music that was playing when the British soldier where vaporize was hilarious :'D
i like some of the 2005 references
GIBVE US THE NAMES OF THESE SONGS THEY ARE HOTTER THAN THE HEAT RAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Long time man and still making videos fastest and hardest he can.
Awesome work!
So the world is burning around him, and the narrator is just sitting at home like it's just another day.
Perfect, non-gory. epic action.
Simply amazing! You've inspired me to start a 12" diorama. Stay tuned...
I like the idea that tripods like... having fun while killing people)))
This is Boss! Can't wait for Chapter 3!
Absolutely brilliant’n can’t wait for the next ones!
you are the best
This is literally what I imagined while reading the book the first time
Utterly horrifying! Bravo!!
6:07 2005 tripod scene reference
Nice 👍
I love the callback to the 05 movie
the last scene at the end with the pod distroying the houses and walking out of the city was from war of the worlds 2005 movie by steven spilberg
Love the music
YES I HAVE BE WAITING FOR SO LONG!
You must finish the whole story!! Also how come only one tripod has a Heatray and the others do not? That one tripod walking to the side when the Artillerymen are running away is just looking down thinking "I wish I could fire something at them" lol
There are multiple variants of the tripod that don’t have heat rays.
Oh wow this is a great animation
3:06 this from men of war2 asaut squat2????
Give link to the songs
I saw chapter 1 already now im watching chapter 2
5:45 is this supposed to be a reference to the 2005 film when Ray was running alongside the houses and the tripod passes by and the dad carrying his child passes by
The tripods look so derpy it’s funny.
Great work
why didn't you put the cage on the tripod
Hey
this is really good!
3:40 bro got absolutely thrown though
BIG YET!
Where did you make these videos
What's the music's name? Also great animation love these chapters
Very clever.
Good job
It's wrong this episode is supposed to be three and 2 this one because in the book he met the artillery man After he had brought his wife to leatherhead.
OMG they recreated the 2005 war of the world first tripod clip 6:06
The soldier running looks like the film with tom Cruise
I want this tripod😊❤🎉👍😃
Superb work. 👍 How many hours would you estimate it takes to create each episode?
Has una animación que los tripodes seblleven a las personas
i love this but the one thing that bothers me is why did the miltary run before even shooting they fired one gun but they all had rifles
maybe it’s their first time seeing heat ray blasted their artillery
@@idkwhatusername3849 hmm?
@@idk34891 I meant first time seeing how strong they were so they ran
@@idkwhatusername3849 okay thanks I understood the first one a little bit but this one explains it
@@idk34891 apologies I wasn’t good at explaining stuff
Ace, i thought it was actors in period costume at first.
5:11:its from one of the illustrations
again the alvim correa tripods
What is the second music named was not the first one and third one
i saw you addend a 2005 war of the worlds refrence
No chapter 7 😢
5:45 this scene is similar to the 2005 movie
let's goo
I picked the reference
6:05 it's the remake of the 2005 scene
Thus epic
Genius
Epic
4:15 I may be wrong but isn’t this a reference to the 2019
To a degree it kinda is.
😉👍
1:08 let me just aim my recoils rifle up a lil bit
@6:10
WOTW 2005 reference
This is amazing but I wonder something. Why is there one martian tripod having the heat Ray but the another two martian tripods have no heat Ray, it 's like the martians just said. Only one martian tripod have a heat Ray but the another two you won't have your the heat Ray lol. Another thing witch are the different martian tripods. There is one that looks like a ball with legs but no arms , there is one that looks like a tin can martian tripod and there is one that looks like a have cut sphere with legs and arms attached to the have cutted sphere. Another thing about the martian tripods they have a bulb below their bottom but for the ball martian tripod it have no bulb on it 's bottom hmm.
Woah a copyer of a sense hiding in 2005 tripod and a people alive?????
Yes
5:49 Is this a refrence to the 2005 war of the worlds?
yep
Bro is the same scene but in the 1913
Si he cierto para que son los lazos de abajo
