Something that technically since the Second Movie there was already an indication that Sarah Connor began to form ties and contacts with groups like this. Given that in the Mankind-Skynet War the most prominent weapons were from the Cold War because of those earlier points. Later, when the resistance obtained technology stolen from Skynet, they managed to modify and improve their weapons to fight it. Of course, the Post-Skynet World would be a strange mixture of authoritarianism, renewed communism, and militarism as well as a hatred and aberration against AIs and technologies advanced enough for them to develop intelligence of some kind.
