The Ultimate DonnyFL Airgun Suppressor Test: Braaaaaaap!

  • So I have been using DonnyFL suppressors on all my airguns for years now with great success. The sound suppression is second to none, but yet I often get questions about true sound reduction and people asking me to do decibel testing.
Quite honestly I have avoided doing this kind of test because it is actually pretty misleading with a DonnyFL or any other airgun suppressor or moderator. Unless you are in a super controlled environment and using insanely sensitive equipment, your results won't be replicable.
Furthermore, there is so much more that goes into suppressing an airgun in that the tone it makes can often be just as important as the actual sound reduction. The airgun internals can also make a huge difference in the report. For instance, I was on a hunt recently where one of the guys I was with was shooting an AEA suppressed with a DonnyFL suppressor and there was a crazy amount of hammer spring "twang" I could hear. That kind of sound can not be suppressed at the muzzle with a suppressor.
But I had this idea.... What if we could create a constant sound profile that could be tested over a long period of seconds vs. just a single shot cycle measured in fractions of a second. This would give a more definitive test of the sound reduction capabilities of a DonnyFL Suppressor.
As a side hobby, my brother and I like to hot rod small engines to see how hard and fast we can push them. In this test, we welded a DonnyFl Ronin Airgun Suppressor to the exhaust of race spec go-kart and minibike engines to see what kind of results we would get over a 10 second sound measurement with a iPhone App Decibel Meter. The results were actually shocking.
If you were impressed with the craftsmanship of the welds in this video, PM me for residential, commercial, and automotive welding jobs. I would love to earn your business.
