- Prof Robert E Kelly has returned to BBC News to talk about his unexpected viral fame last week, when his children crashed his live TV interview to the amusement of millions of people who later watched the clip. Prof Kelly, an expert on South Korea, was joined in the follow-up video with his wife, Jung-a Kim and children Marion and James.
He confirmed to the BBC's James Menendez that he was, despite online speculation, wearing trousers during the interview.

@@Daryl_Phillips_ Today again, yeah, 1st thing in my recommendation. How does the bot know am homesick?!
After the camera shutdown he yell and beat his family
If he's abusive , the child wouldn't even walk in, dancing at his side... he's completely embarrassed that's why.
I had to conduce a quick urgent client call once on the phone... from a closed bathroom with my 5 year old banging his toys at the other side of the door. I was praying inside that the noise was not noticeable. I think this family gave visibility to conciliation of work and family, something that sometimes is difficult but needs to be addressed nowadays. And now that many of us are having homeschooling and home office it is news again ✌
Yes
He probably thought he’d loose his job and was also scared and very on spot
I'm telling you from experience even if the dad is abusive, the child will start to recoil only much later. My father was verbally extremely abusive to me and up to the time I was 8 years old, I still wanted to hang out with him and be with him. It's only after that at age 9 and older that I started to avoid him.
... Anyway, I regularly watch TROS, a South Korean show, and they had this family as a guest. He disclosed that he was sure he'd lose his job over the incident, and also mentioned that they declined so many media invites simply because they didn't know how to handle it. He's just an academic who's not super camera-savvy. It's really pathetic how some people would make such grave accusations based on a split-second moment.
He seems like a caring dad and loving husband. He never interrupted his wife or spoke for her. And the kids are adorable!
After many years of marriage you don’t interrupt your partner because you just aren’t paying attention anymore hahah

Twister .... I kept touching my screen not realizing it was your picture...
I thought a hair is on my monitor
Your profile pic bro. I think it means my screen is too realistic.
I wonder why people would think she was the nanny. The kids clearly look like her.
PrettyRed Gemini, bc she not white and people are dumb
I would not ask my colleague that question because the "nanny comment' is not founded on anything obvious but behavioral tendency to belittle others by how they look. The interviewer knew this but seemed to like the narrative that's why he pushed hard with a follow-up question in front of his wife (if he is not like them then it is click-based journalism)
She's beautiful 😍😍😍
Gabrielle Murphy : Thank you for your honest comment!
Yeah it blew my mind to see just how many ppl thought that. Im very observant and analytical. So when I saw his, a white man, two very Asian looking kids come in my mind automatically used reason. Without even thinking I knew the mother had to be Asian I mean where's the discrepancy? 😂 I just cant fathom that any human with a normal iq couldn't put that togther. So when I saw an Asian woman walk in I automatically knew it was the mom. Ppl who thought otherwise have race issues that they need to compromise within themselves bc it was way too obvious. Those kids could pass as 100% Asian tf lol
I love how the eldest child came dance-marching in with such joy and then the little came in behind her, just rolling in the baby walker 😂❤️
The girl knew what she was doing, she just wanted to be difficult, I know kids like that, they pretend they don't know any better, and they just do things like this to get attention. For sure they told her not to get in the room during the meeting.
Gets on my nerves because I can see behind their little game, but still they are children, so have to be tolerated. (Not talking about the little one, the boy is totally innocent in all this, but the girl knows what's up and even does it in this interview/video)
@@zada4a the conspirecy....
yea evil
@Hold Your Breath The kid was 4 (and according to an article I read about the family, she had just turned 4 the day before the interview) so it is extremely unlikely that she knew what she was doing\was intentionally being difficult.
Then the mother comes in like Kramer on snow skis.
I don't get why people keep on saying that he looks abusive. their daughter wouldn't have come in on the home office with so much confidence if he was as controlling as you claim to be and she obviously prefers to speak in korean so you could tell that korean is the first language at home. Even though she speaks great english, the wife wasn't comfortable speaking in english so she keeps on looking at her husband for reassurance. if you've equated the horrid look on her face on the first video for fear of taking a beating from her husband, then you've clearly haven't had an embarrassing child blunder experience in your life.
Rosewoodspoiler PLL I think there are a great many assumptions being made and it's very unfair. And the daughter being aggressive?? I have a kid and I run a kids' non-profit. She is just being a kid - and clearly one who is quite used to being welcomed into her dad's home office. A point he made quite emphatically.
To add on to your comment, I think she was also looking at her husband for reassurance because she probably hasn't been on live television before so she was looking to him for comfort while she did something new and possibly uncomfortable.
And, for the love of God, this is just a family dealing with normal family shit! Lighten up!! My husband, in the course of his job, is interviewed regularly, sometimes on the phone, for instance, when we are driving someplace - and then, YES, I had to quiet down our daughter when she was little so we did not interfere with the interview. How is this in ANY way controversial?? And, for the record, our daughter is now a well-adjusted, outgoing teen who still loves her parents and contributes to society as a responsible, respectful young adult. Don't people have more important things to worry about?
booksRAwesome92 point well made. 👍🏻
Rosewoodspoiler PLL It's a TV interview, you think you'd act normal?
Love the fact he gazes at his wife and waits for her to answer the questions or waits for her to finish her sentences even if she is struggling. Don’t like when people interrupt those that can’t speak English fluently
And those who lack patience when you're trying to finish whatever it is you want to say.
Totally, I noticed that too. I am going to try be as patient as him with people who struggle with English. He has set a great example
Interrupting people is annoying in general

I’m a feminist and all I’ve wanted since I was young is to be a mother, feminism isn’t about working against that goal, it’s about understanding that it would be ok if that wasn’t my goal, it’s that simple.

Plus... why does people think it’s bad to see a partner when one is talking?
Professor Kelly lives in South Korea with his family and he appeared as guest dad in the Korean reality documentary show called "The Return of Superman" where famous dads in Korea are left at home or do activities with their children for a day or two and the show documents it. It's fun to watch seeing him outside of his "professional" life and see him as a normal dad.
The best thing of this video is to make clear to some prejudiced people that the woman is not the maid, but the owner of the house!
Brisa Salvas How might it be prejudiced? With so little information in that video, the fine lady could've had any possible role in good Professor Kelly's life! It didn't have to be a race issue.
I thought she was the nanny because she looked very young in the video I moved very quickly. I thought she had the agility of a teenager, so that’s what made me assume she was the nanny.
she's just a poor woman in a rich man's house
that's ALL a wife will ever be.
You must be a virgin?
She sure didn't act like one. The owner of the house would act like she had every right to be there. This lady went in head down, terrified, trying not to be seen while her husband didn't even have the courtesy to turn around and acknowledge her, let alone help. It's like one of those households where the help are supposed to stay inconspicuous. That's why people thought she was the maid/nanny.
The racist part is why did so many people see an Asian woman in an obviously subservient relationship and still be okay with it? Which part of her body language said wife? Was it the fact that she's Asian? If a white woman acted that lowly, would you assume she was the wife?

Kids have energy esp at home when they are in their natural element. As a pediatrician, it’s not normal for a eight-nine month old (guessing little ones age) to sit completely still. They learn by touching everything!
The viewers naturally had a question if she were his wife or a nanny. However, raising the nanny question was embarrassing for both of them. It should have been avoided.
YES
I don’t think any viewer with Asian background like myself had any similar “natural” thought, it’s simply biased.
I'll admit that I had that initial thought, but I also told myself, "that's not right, she could be anybody." We are human, we make assumptions. We just gotta keep challenging ourselves and these preconceived notions. The more you challenge yourself, the less you think like that. That little girl is full of energy, God bless her...
This family is JUST wholesome. Like, my gosh. There is no basic darkness. Just great parents who love each other and their children very much, and their kids are just being kids, cuz they’re YOUNG!

!!!!!
She wants people to enjoy not to argue ...
She's so beautiful and kind and confident .. I loved her 💗💗💗💗
Though language didn't help her much but she was lovely
At 7:54 What was the wife saying that the husband stopped her?
@The Secret History Thank You
Baby headbutting his mom at 8:36. These are real masters of physical comedy.
My nephew also does that to me all the time
Omg I just noticed that thankyouu😂
fato profugus she gave him a limited death stare lol
Don't all early age kids do that ? The children of my ex were litteraly climbing me when i was guarding them. I got punched many times
It was loud too!! 😂
When Kids went into the room during the interview i thought it was sooo sweeeet! And i even felt how the Mother of these Kids felt, i hope they didnt argue about this incident, and didnt tell the Kids off. Family is more important than any interview in the world❤️
They are such a cute family. The whole comment about her being the nanny was hella unnecessary, you can tell he was really pissed about it. She’s stunning!
Pau...interesting. I didn't think he was "really pissed." I think he was mortified and I'm willing to bet he was concerned afterwards that the interview was ruined. You can tell that he's a very smart guy. I didn't see him as angry, but, as someone who soon saw the humor(before the calls came in.) Pretty sweet story.
RogerCG1 you may be right, he seems like a very intelligent person, character wise but it seemed like it did bother him that they asked him that obviously, no one would like their partners to be mistaken for their maids or ‘nanny’.
i dont think it is a rude thing to say. i doubt the sayer was being rude about it. nothing wrong with an innocent mistake. i mean the kids look white if you dont look at them closely. no biggie. to have an issue with that is just overly touchy. all that is reuired is to say, no i am the wife, and thats that. no harm meant.
She’s not ugly but she’s not stunning. Maybe look up the definition.
@@a016202 agreed!just so-so.
It's great that he said ' We want to make the children feel that their parents are accessible''. That is so important when the kids have a glimpse of what their parents do at work. It's a chance for them to know their parents in a different social context; and if their dad or mum are doing something really cool or helpful to the community, that could inspire them to be a better person too.
That's a good point there. I agree
because of these two kids, I will w.atch BBC News. So natural interview! That's real work life balance.
What a beautiful family and precious kids. They have grown up so much now since this time. God bless them!
This video is the perfect answer to everyone suggesting that he should have put the girl on his lap during his interview. See how fidgety they are? Very sweet, but fidgety and distracting.
I agree, look how lively that kid is. She just can't sit still.
That is how little kids are. Cute but distracting.
People were so rude about him putting his hand up to his daughter. He clearly watched her walk in and seemed fine with it and ONLY put his hand up to her to be polite to the reporter who remarked that his child walked in. He even smiled that she was in the room.....
Vishala Rao anyone who is a parent already understands a child's restless energy and the futility it is to keep them still.
I think she's autistic ... poor thing :'(
Imagine another two kids and a woman interrupt this interview!
what a twist!!!!
Sam naghavi this comment .... wow never thought of it ever . You’re a genius
Loool
You made my day😂😂😂😂😂
LOLOLOL sis and brother in law drop by for a unannounced visit with their kids... lol... brilliant 😂
@@nancybez The intruders stand there bewildered of whats going on as granddad in wheelchair rolls in behind them blocking the entrance as they all trip over eachother trying to leave the room, knocking granddad over in the process.
It was the second kid who rolled in like a tank, that did it for me lol hahahahahahah
Indeed, I cracked up seeing him roll into the room with his arms waving around. :D
genie121 He's like
They see me rollin
They hatin
lol! That's what did it for me, too...when the baby rolled in there like he owned the place. Oh my goodness! Too cute and too doggone funny! LOL!
Reminded me of a little dalek!
+Tom Miller lol
This is probably one of those videos that´ll never fall out of the TOP TEN for ages....Unsurpassable timing and sweetness...and not fake!!
Very definitely fake.
Four years later, and I still think their daughter is the coolest kid!!
The daughter is a Boss
Good luck when they are 17 and 15. 🤓🥸

They are called terrible 2’s for a reason. I’m dealing with it now with one of my boys, and again in another 18 months. NO control but learning and getting better.
Yep. 😁
I laughed in tears! This touched me in so many wonderful ways. What a wonderful family!
*Those kids are so adorable*

Counter racism with more racism - way to undermine your point
Anyway TRUMP WON is probably some pathetic sub-human like the rest of his rabble that's probably never even been outside the US
Everything is adorable, depends on how you look at them!

@M LA You're already an incompetent male with that kind of pitiful mindset.
M LA psycho
The original interview on the subject that no-one remembers was the golden setup for this beautiful interview that everyone was waiting for.
Lovely family.
God bless the family!!!! His wife is nice and beautiful and the kids cute.
he couldn't get a white woman
He could he just didn't want to because his wife is nice and beautiful and the kids cute.
SUGAR XYLER He's educated, what makes you even think he can't get an average white woman? Lol
Why are you guys talking like getting a white woman is a privilege. If a person isn't well educated, he can't date a white woman? He can date and marry whoever he wants. Jeez.
SUGAR XYLER Racists still exit like homophode.
You know that most Asians also don't like their children marrying Non-Asian races.
What is so good about being White. White are also mere human escept they have super white skin and it doesn't look beautiful. Their skin looks so terrible when I look closer at it.
Don't feel so above for being white. Color doesn't matter. Your attitude does matter Racist!
The interviewer is quite gentle, by the way. The way he drives the questions is very impressive and professional. I loved it.
al ki well at least he apologised
You are right. However, It was an accident, and I, too, wouldn't have known what to do. I know what you mean though. But for me, still it was understandable of the reporter's being nervous and not knowing how to deal with. Thx for your reply, by the way.
조석현 Well yeah it is the BBC, like the most professional news channel.
Enough with all of those asian and nanny comments. U guys are crazy. Theyre beautiful family ❤
SuperAquamarineXOXO I agree..the kids are adorable.even the little one he is ready to make a mess in the house in a few months.😂
SuperAquamarineXOXO all these salty ass comments, they're just jealous lol

I think Elliot Roger may have been a very shy boy with a neglectful father and an overbearing mother. He may have suffered from lack of social social skills, and may have been hurting for a better social life. Who knows, he may even have been a mild case in the autism spectrum disorder. Being socially awkward makes it impossible for boys to become popular and he was most likely teased, insulted, and bullied. Adding to all that he wasn't the most attractive or confident guy and was probably routinely rejected by girls. His distress was treated by his parents with material possessions. He eventually became jaded and may have developed violent fantasies, with no one to help him or make him see people in a good way.
Northern Gryphon Elliot Rodgers is an extreme case that idiots keep pointing to as an example of the "evils" of race mixing, I think his problem is that he did have mental issues combined with his wealthy background and inability to cope with rejection, instead of anyone noticing the signs and trying to get him some help, they ignored and mocked him, it had nothing to do with him being mixed race

From where did you get that misinformation? I’d like to see numbers on this, or it’s just plain bullshit.
Currently, the vast majority of half Asian / half Caucasian children are born from Asian mothers and Caucasian fathers, so the size ratio between the two groups are very different.
I can't speak for other countries, but In North America, Asian mothers who were raised in Asia or who were raised with traditional values by first generation immigrants, will devote a lot of their energy in raising proper, well adjusted children. They will make sure they grow up in an intact nuclear family, even if it means she has to make many concessions. They put their children before themselves.
Caucasian men also tend to spend more “quality time” with their children, and less time at work than traditional Asian fathers. There is more attention focused on the children, and any issue has a better chance of being noticed and dealt with.
Caucasian North-American women with traditional values are harder to find, especially in cities, which is where racial mixing tends to happen. Modern-minded Caucasian women have less hesitation in breaking a marriage instead of making concessions and trying to be happy despite facing some adversity. In a way, they are more selfish, and want more validation. To them, the family is not as important.
Note that I speak in generalities, and that there are exceptions everywhere, so there is no need to point them out.
What I’d like to see is valid research that support your claim that children born from Asian fathers and Caucasian mothers generally perform better.
Wow! Adorable kids, loving husband and a kind wife. Awesome family..
and people are suddenly being 'expert' at body language and child care and judge this family for every single gesture they're making. damn. yall must be bored, huh.
l l That's what free speech is about, oh and RUclips,.............You Tube!!
They probably are, I mean why else would they sit there pin pointing things out after watching the video over and over just to do that.
I saw a cute happy family with cute kids.
7:05 She was trying to bite her brother
JAJAJAJA
lmaooooo. 😂😂😂😂
I can’t 🤣
Omg please😂😂😂
Dude my little sister always tries to bite my arm and she has like no teeth!! I'm just like what is actually wrong with this child xD
