Steve Earle. One of the Best and Underrated singer, songwriter out there today. Seen him at least six times. Met him after shows for signings and just a down to earth approachable dude.I have about 80% of his catalogue. Always a great show. never disappointed. Nails it.
As just an average working joe I've been fortunate to meet some great artists just by random circumstances. Some of it related to my jobs at the times. I was driving taxi when I ran into Steve Earle at a hard time in his life, and it saddened me. Big fan, glad he made it through. That night it was real close.
I saw Steve Earle in Atlanta, right after I Feel Alright came out. He was fresh out of prison, and, in between songs, told the story of how being sent to prison probably saved his life because he beat heroin and crack. . You could have heard a pindrop. You could tell he was clean and full of gratitude. He then said "ive started to sit down and write Judge Thomas a letter thanking him for saving my life, but.......(a long pregnant pause) "I aint that well yet", and immediately launched into Devil's Right Hand. It.....was...epic.
I saw him first in Atlanta on the Copperhead Road tour and was blown away-- lucky for me, one of his road guys came into the club where I worked and invited me to come see them the next night. I also saw him solo acoustic at the Bottom Line in NYC right after release-- a high point of sublime musical experience-- i'm sad I had to miss the recent Gruene Hall stop, I moved to TX when he moved to NYC!
Eric Amble's full brilliance as a "Gun For Hire" can be witnessed in its entirety when Steve Earle Performed on Austin City Limits on November 12, 2000 in support of the Transcendental Blues Album. Eric Amble's is and remains one of the Best Guitar Players in Rock N Roll!!!!!!

I saw Roscoe with Steve in Bloomington, Indiana. I'm 99% sure that a good bit of the "Just An American Boy" live album was recorded at that show. Roscoe is THE MAN!!!

Since moving to the south, I have been absolutely overjoyed to hear so many wonderful storytellers, Day in and day out, as I go about my life here. Having been a musician, most of my life, I absolutely relish all of these stories.
Eric is a Legend in the New York music scene. I can't remember a time he was not a big force in the real music that comes out of NY, Brooklyn, He has his hands in it, A real nice guy
Saw The Dukes with Roscoe several times. They were an in your face dirty rock band. One show that stands out for me was in the fall of 2003 in Bend, OR at the Athletic Club. Probably close to 2000 people jammed pack. Temperature was in the low 30s. It was freezing but one of the best shows I've ever seen
This is fantastic!!!!! I love the gear talk, and love the rap about being the side man and adjusting to not being in charge and have to fix everything. Good life lesson. Interesting that Justin Earl was the guitar tech. So sad he couldn't stay clean.
Once again, learning new stuff about the good old stuff! Hearing from Roscoe brings to life in new ways the music loved by so many for so long. He’s another unsung hero in my world, and I will now dig a little deeper in the well of his music. Thank you!
The period from Train a Comin to about Washington Square may be one of the greatest artistic moments in music history. Roscoe was a huge part of that. Steve's still good, but man, those albums during that time were 100% pure gold.
They were. Steve Earle is one of the few people I admire so much I become inarticulate.... Emmylou Harris is another, and her albums of the same rough time period superlative.
Love hearing the interaction betw.een a lot of my favorite bands, Kelly Looney was a member of Webb Wilder and the Beatnecks, and later Donnie Roberts of Webbs band joined Steve as well. Great to see how these greats intermingled. Love Tom's band, The Bottle Rockets and others mentioned here
Love this man as a Guitar player. I got to meet Steve and the "Dukes" when I saw him at the Count Basie in Red Bank New Jersey . My wife and I went to a diner to grab a burger before the show . The whole band were in there eating great guys great show
I saw the Del Lords with Ambel at the Theater Gallery in Dallas, around '86 maybe. I still remember the feeling of the way my shirt clung to me, soaked with sweat. OMG, they rocked that tiny place!
Interesting that a young Justin ( Townes) Earle was his guitar tech. Primanti brothers in the Strip District of Pittsburgh. Was a cool place to get a sandwich after a concert in town. There’s a chain of them now all around the area. It was the atmosphere of the original one that the stoners liked in the 70’s. The two brothers worked behind the counter and would yell out the orders and make jokes and banter . Reminded me of that old (wasn’t old then) SNL skit ,” cheeseburger, cheeseburger, coke ,coke.”
Best version of the Dukes with those guys! One of my favorite shows was seeing them Jan. 05. The Revolution Starts Now tour, at a theater in West Palm beach Fla. Really tight band great songs.
R is a great story teller. There’s a quaver of the truest sincerity in his voice. It is touching. Maybe it just comes from owning a bar in the east village, but I prefer to think of it as coming from a softer place.
Otis, you are on a serious roll lately with riveting interviews and guests. 12 minutes goes by and it feels like 2. Roscoe's stories are all like that. plus, he mentioned the bottle rockets and backsliders, et al. Heck yeah!

The hand-beaded white-turquoise-silver for Andy York was one of my best, wonder where it is now.... Sadly, I heard somebody swiped the gorgeous cowboy jacket I made to match Bill Davis' pink-paisley Telecaster. If anybody spots a custom hot pink cowboy jacket with gold, white, and lavender beadwork and white satin piping, it belongs to Dash Rip Rock!
Interesting stories. I didn’t know much about Roscoe until I heard about him on this channel. I was aware of his connection with the Bottle Rockets but I didn’t know he toured with Steve Earle.
I saw Eric with Steve in 2005 in Sweden. I've listened to Steve since guitar town and I think the Dukes were the best at that period. Very good show. I also saw Steve here in Finland when he did the Townes tour. High level stuff always. I think Eric is very good. Cheers!

hey cool i think i met this cat when I worked at Santa Fe's Lensic Performing Arts Center and got to meet all sorts of awesome artists including Steve and his band in thee green room several times..side note thats also why given the timing im pretty sure i was at the bar in rev todd sndes famus ale about being at a bar in downtown sana fe till 3 am with jerry jff and then walking back to th hotel they saw who we called gutar guy laying mr boojangls anyway i d think i met Roscoe way back when ...he did seem familiar when i first saw ur posts of him thanks brther otis - SJOCR

He was a few rows in front of me and a friend pointed him out. He talked to me for maybe an hour after the show, much to the chagrin of his friends I think! I'll always have a soft spot for that guy. Again, thanks for the reply and all the years if great music.

I saw Rosco play with Steve during The Revolution Starts Now tour in Minneapolis. He was out on the sidewalk by the tour bus after the show. He was nice and answered any questions fans asked him. Very talented guy.

Transcendental Blues and The Revolution Starts Now are incredibly strong albums. Roscoe is all over them. One of Steve Earle's many great peaks.

I came in after David Steele had left and stayed through 2005. There was no overlap.
