- The Coast Guard called off its search for 18-year-old Cameron Robbins, a recent Louisiana high school grad who fell overboard while on a cruise in the Bahamas.
Robbins graduated from University Laboratory School (U-High) in Baton Rouge on May 21 and went on a celebratory boat ride with several hundred students.
On Wednesday night, he reportedly jumped overboard on a dare. Reports from that night said it was inclement weather.
After a two-day, 325-mile search, the U.S. Coast Guard said on Friday it ended its search-and-rescue efforts that were coordinated with the Royal Bahamas Defence Force.

What is so tragic about this story is that in a split moment of trying to please others, this kid gave up his short life in this world. Listen all you young kids out there, do not try to please anyone because not everyone has your best interests at heart.
This is absolutely true! Beyourself, have sense enough to know what’s important and don’t take dares! Don’t be bullied and don’t give your life for a stupid dare! You have nothing to prove, and others don’t have control over your actions!
It was his ego that took him under
I'm not too big on words these days. People think they can make a difference with dream and talk.
not a good idea to jump off a cruise ship.
amen
Imagine you send your child off to celebrate his graduation, and next thing he is buried at sea forever. Lord have mercy.
Play stupid games win stupid prizes, easy as that. Guy apparently won Darwin award
If he jumped on purpose, she raised an idiot.
Prayers for his family
@violamateo my mom emphasized the dangers of life constantly. I'd roll my eyes, say "I know, stop worrying" then proceed with all sorts of stupidity. All teens think they're invincible, until they're not.
He's in the stomach of a shark
I imagine the moment he jumped and realize that there was no return, it must’ve been like a terrible nightmare he couldn’t have woken up from. Truly chilling
That’s bone chilling
I honestly want to know how long someone can be in a open body of water like that before they get to tired to go on. No land in sight to swim to. Also how do you end your life in a body of water. Do you just wait until you sink and drown? After you drown does your body sink to the bottom? So many things run through my head thinking about this. This is my worst fear
That's what I was thinking. What an actual nightmare.
@@trentbulen3854 the best way to end it would probably be to swim down until you can't keep going, you'll then have no choice but to drown, I wouldn't do that personally. Looks like a shark ate this guy before he had time to worry about all that.
@Trent Bulen They weren't very far out. It was like a party cruise. The water was about 16ft deep, I read. Rip currents are possible. But I don't think he waited there or felt loss. Something more sudden happened to him. It's such a horribly sad story.
Same thing happened to my friend in HS. Our friend dared him to jump into a rushing river and he never came back up. They found him 3 months later miles down the river. The friend who dared him to jump in, never got over the guilt and pain.
Is that friend still alive ?
I’m sure they don’t sleep at night. Who dares someone to kill themselves. Obviously jumping into a rushing River is asking for death or severe injury
This is heartbreaking to family and friends but a life lesson to other adolescent teens. Never let anyone dare you to do stupid things like this.
Uh, just decline the dare.
Nobody dared him into anything, he did it because he wanted to do it. Hard to feel bad for someone that did something so stupid. He did this, and only he is responsible for his actions. You gotta be pretty dumb to jump off of a boat in the middle of the ocean. The thirst for praise for doing dumb things is strong. Being egged on to do dumb things by others that would never be dumb enough to do those things, is pure comedy gold. The only life lesson is if people are daring you to do something, it means they think you are dumb enough to do it, and if you do it, then you prove their point. If jumping off a boat is so cool, then how come nobody else jumped off? Maybe he should've asked that before jumping.

What gets me about this case is the regret he must have felt once he hit the water, the fear of the unknown splashes in the water, and the realization. Truly, probably one of the worst ways to die and I can't get this case out of my head.
He impulsively jumped into water with sharks. Didn't really fully understand the danger. And then you see him attacked and killed right on camera. Some POS kid even says "bye-bye" as he sees the sharks go in for the kill.
Seen the boat get away from you is the chilling part
See the boat disappear and you’re alone swimming in pitch black is nightmare fuel
@@NorwinMaranion The kid was attacked and killed in a few seconds right in camera. What you saw in the video was the last seconds of his life

Here in Portugal, a 17 year old girl was lost for 20 hours. She spent 20 hours in the middle of the sea in her paddle board during an entire evening and night. She was very lucky because a ship passed by and saw her 25 miles from the coast.
Over a DARE?! Do parents not go through the whole "if someone told you to jump off a bridge would you do it?!" routine anymore?
Some kids still won't listen. This is one. He won't be the last.

Obviously, they didnt seem to care telling him Bye bye.
Nobody forced him Darwin strikes again
Unless they didn’t care or like him 🤷.. a lot of teenagers would be like oh well sucks for him..
Doubt if they are even thinking about anything but the possibility of consequences, which is slight.
they've already forgot
I jumped off a high cliff in Italy when I was 18. Had no idea how dangerous it was. Kids honestly feel that they are untouchable!
If you're gonna be dumb you better be tough.
how are you still alive
yeah definitely a bad idea for this teen. may god bless/rest his soul
Untouchable my ass , who the hell in their right mind jumps off a cruise ship into the ocean because of a dare ; the ass wipe that dared him should be charged
This is an explanation of why teenagers do risky things without thinking about the consequences. Their prefrontal cortex has not fully developed. It doesn’t fully develop until the age of 25. That’s why when we all think back about stupid stuff that we did as teens, or even young adults, we shutter to think about what could’ve happened to us in hindsight.
Research has found that adult and teen brains work differently. Adults think with the prefrontal cortex, the brain’s rational part. This is the part of the brain that responds to situations with good judgment and an awareness of long-term consequences. Teens process information with the amygdala. This is the emotional part.
That’s why you jumped with no hesitation when you were 18 bc you weren’t thinking with the rational part of your brain. I could’ve died so many times from stupidity as a teen and young adult. I thank god that I’m still here today!
Tragic. Prayers for his family and friends. Those that dared him need extra prayers because their lives will never be the same either. So young.
The ones that dared should feel bad. He was the dummy for actually doing it.

I wouldn’t assume the guy taking the video was his friend. There were a ton of people on that ship. The person videoing said, “This guy jumped overboard (or into the water or something like that).” He said, this kid. I don’t think it was his friend filming.

Kids do some dumb things until their brains are fully developed...like 25-28 years old. Maybe cruise ships should have a faster rescue dispatch for overboard guests. I've seen ships/ferries with watertight door openings at sea level where a Sea-Doo could quickly launch and and get to the overboard guest instead of people just recording their unfortunate demise from the deck. I almost drowned 3 times in my life once as child and once as a teen and once in my adulthood. The last time hit me different then all the rest. I remember having tons of people around me watching as I struggled to stay above water. A branch sticking out the water saved my life. I held on to it as long as I needed too. Then I continued to swim back. It's truly one of my biggest fears now. So much so that I don't even like playing in pools, going to beaches or nothing water related. He saw something 11oclock ahead of him, what ever it was it made him retreat. And im a native thats how our sharks behave.. they make sudden burst like that when they're in feeding frenzy mode. Conclusion he saw it, he retreated and it followed him
and it was not current cause the bouy aint move he moved off his own will
Wow so scary
Some youngsters just don’t realize the consequences of their actions at times
Especially under the influence of alcohol.
@@aprilsmith6587 somewhere in the Bahamas there is a slightly buzzed shark.
The reason Cameron Robbins never got out of the water was because of the sharks present in the area when he jumped into the sea. There was no strong current or bad sea conditions and unfortunately it was sharks that attacked him.
The Bahamas is one of the worlds most dense shark hotspots with over 40 species of sharks.
That's incorrect. It's not 40.
There's a video of the young man in the water, and you can see the sharks splashing near him. He swam away from the life ring because sharks were there.
@@watsonspuzzle The Bahamas has tiger sharks, lemon shark, reef sharks, white tip, black tip, nurse sharks, hammerhead, dusky, bull and saw sharks. I'm Bahamian. I know my waters. Their aren't no other than that.
Dang. I was peer pressured to jump off the top of a train bridge when I was about 17 years old and I am a great swimmer. Well, that jump was nothing to reckon with. I’m amazed I made it out alive and I was covered head to toe in black and blue bruises from the force of the rushing water (River) and my body hitting the water. I lost my breathe as the wind was knocked right out of me and no one on shore realized I couldn’t breathe!!! Somehow I swam back to shore out of pure adrenaline to survive! So sorry this happened. Please be careful jumping off stuff and try not to buy into peer pressure. Also, don’t drink and jump or drive!!!
Whew! I couldn't breathe as I read your comment. So scary.
You’re wild 😝
I'm so glad you made it
Wise words
Glad you survived and there were no pythons, crocs, gators, submerged stones or dead trees beneath the water.
He must be looking at the cruise ship while it's fading into the dark together with all the music and screaming from the balcony until reality hits him that he's literally swimming into the void.
No, he got sucked under pretty quickly. Probably heard the noise fading slowly, into the deep dark depths of the ocean, alone. Terrifying.
I think sharks got him. You could see them splashing the water near him.
I hope his “friends” who dared him, remember this forever.
They will and thanked the idiot for a life lesson 😅
I'm an old man and do not understand how I got to be old from the stupid things I have done in my life and also surviving stage 4 cancer.. I have been to the Bahamas several times and there are places you don't swim because of the sharks.. I do hate to see young people die over anyting especially something as stupid as this..R.I.P. Cameron..
Think about this, they have searched longer for people who went missing in situations just like this, more than likely the investigators found that he was eaten by an animal, especially if it’s clear that a shark was around, at night there more aggressive because that’s when they feed the most, and depending on the species, they are also pack animals. A pack of hungry sharks can make anyone go missing in a matter of minutes,
Makes sense why they know they can’t find him.
Why is everyone saying sharks got him? The average person can only swim a few hours b4 getting tired an drowning. An if the temperature is low, weather, swimming Against the current all plays a factor in less time for swimming b4 drowning
@@jessehassell1864 Because a girl screams shark and he starts swimming the other direction. Plus you can see it in the video on the far left side.
@@jessehassell1864 everyone is deferent there have been people that have survived days in the water just them selves, the reason people are saying shark is because it was reported from people on the boat also. Not arguing, but you can’t think it’s impossible to get eaten by a group of sharks.
@@OriginalLifeLine I’m sure sharks could of attacked him there’s two sharks n when he swims the other way it’s like he getting pulled down . That’s like the when some got thy arm chopped off think it some surf movie
My sincerest condolences to the family and friends of this young man. May his family be able to find moments of peace during this heartbreaking journey. Sending them all my love.
Im sorry, but the video very clearly shows sharks. Why are these news channels so hesitant in highlighting this?
You can clearly spot a shark hovering him in the video.
I fish in the ocean and by the time you get a fish on the line, and within less than 90 seconds, shark bites the fish in half (proof when I reel it in) He was gone in less than 40 seconds
He is definitely not lost, Sharks definitely got him. Out of all the adults on board why didn't no one tell him or advised that there are sharks in the waters especially in that location.
Cause common sense we expect people to have
As a mother I wouldn’t want them to stop looking . My condolences to the family and friends in my heart and prayers go out to all of you
he's long dead
Letting go is the hardest.
@@stanleysanders9099 There appears to be an (adolescent) shark in the video it jumps up and does a dolphin flip: copying him...playing. An attack?, nobody saw any blood., very sad, just an accident too close to wild animals.... sharks may have been swimming in a current, grabbed him as well. could have surfaced 5 miles away with in a matter of minutes. very sad for the family.
@@7caratstar i don't think sharks have that level of cognitive ability to mimic or play
Hypothermia got him.
Them wasn’t his friends if they egged him on to jump.everybody ain’t your friend.

Very true. Those are NOT friends.
I use situations like this as teaching moments to my children… I explain to them continuously not to follow and that it’s okay to not do what others are doing. It’s okay to walk away from things they may consider cool… I hope they find him and are able to bring him home. No matter how old our kids are or how much we feel they should know.. We have to keep reminding them. We did not grow up in the era of social media. Most of them are, we are no longer raising our kids alone..
Great life lessons. My mom used to put TERRIFYING cut outs of news of girls missing and things happening with them. Was t my favorite but I was always very careful. I was always carrying something sharp or pepper spray and I tried not to walk alone while I was young and small.
@@lilbbmuffin those are the lessons that saved our lives!!
It literally was a shark in the video. The kids in the video didn’t even try to help him and was laughing and 1 even said bye. They should be punished seriously then maybe they’ll think about they’re actions. They played apart in his demise. RIP Young man. Condolences n prayers to his family. Also the search shouldn’t have been called off so soon. N how Brian advertising a whole nother party smfh. This world is evil fr.
punish them for what the idiot made the conscious choice to jump in on his own
Couldn’t have said it better god bless you
He didn’t fall, he jumped off the boat. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
Honestly the friends need to take responsibility because he's missing because of that dare. The friends in my opinion shouldn't have done that now the family is suffering. Kids and teens never do this ever even if there money to dangerous.
Umm no... he willingly made a choice. His friends did not force him.
Anything to avoid accountability of your own actions smh, I'm sorry but this human made a choice, and not a wise one, I feel for his family 😞
I guess he won among his friends.. great friends to have.
His friends have to live with this the rest of their lives
@Caye Have you MET todays teens? They bully their own "friends" into ending their own lives then laugh at the funeral!
I would not be shocked if they used this for attenton but don't really care.
@Caye A they should so they never do anything this stupid ever again.
None of them jumped in. He’s the idiot
He lost his life but won the dare . Smart kids
Some people in these comments are so cruel. It’s really not funny and the people who loved him are devastated.
Because of HIS bad choice. He’s the only one to blame for his families grief, period.
MJ I have to ask, if this was your family member or friend who passed in this way and ppl were making rude comments, would you still feel the same way? Humanity has lost its morals and respect for one another. This boys life being lost is tragic, sad, and ppl shouldn't be disrespectful - regardless of the choice he made to jump, which was obviously done with pure intent to have fun.
He saw a shark, and tried to swim away from it. The shark got him, simple as that
There were multiple sharks. Horrific
He's not lost at sea he was shark bait.
My condolences and sympathy to all his friends and family. God rest his soul.

Now his "friends" can go home and tell his family what happened.
His poor family and friends. I have a 19 year old impulsive son and I couldn’t imagine losing him like this.

RUclips had good phone footage of this. A 6 foot shark circled by the life ring just before the kid turned away from it.
Everyone daring him and all those young people with phones and only one video??
Dude whoever seen the video can tell you there was something swimming in the water near the lifesaver that’s why he swam away
I saw that, too! & you hear people screaming! I heard one or two people say “shark!” It sounded like the boy in the water was the one who yelled that when someone said to swim to the buoy
Those waters are known to be shark infested, so I believe he was killed by a shark.
@@joannamcpherson it was a Shark
Right, have none of these peeps watcbed the video? It is obvious there was a large shark, spotted by the onlookers, who then said bye bye and he was gone. A big tiger took him plain and simple. Hate that for all his friends and family and hope he didnt suffer long.
How do you see the video
Mom away said after I told her my friends made me do it.”If you friends ask you to jump off a bridge would you”.
Yip I remember hearing that too as a child. Unfortunately this generation would jump and ask questions later.

Shark near him. He turned AWAY from the floating ring. The big silver thing was to the left of him.
He was eaten by sharks immediately. You could the video, 2 sharks jumping towards him as he then turned and tried swimming the opposite way
You're probably correct or shortly afterward.
