I was diagnosed with Stage 1 CRC. They cut everything out and said go about your daily life and ensured I was getting yearly colonoscopies, blood work and occasional scans. They never said i needed to change my diet but I did anyway. I only eat lean white meat, drink about 4oz of any type of alcohol a week sometimes not even that, drink coffee, removed all processed sugar, and try my best to be as active as I can. Overall a lot of doctors are pretty hands off with me, and Cancer clinics will not admit me as a patient because I don't need any adjuvant therapies.

I want to thank you for providing your perspective and experience as a young survivor of cancer. I'm 27 and was diagnosed with stage 1 rectal cancer early this year and even though I feel so lucky that it was caught early, it really turns your life upside down. Your videos have helped in making me feel less lonely in my diagnosis and also provided a lot of useful information.
I had a LAR surgery this summer and they found nothing in my lymph nodes, which was a big relief. Now I'm just looking forward to the reversal surgery. The feeling overall of gratitude of being alive is not something I fully understood before this.

    Hi Jelana,
thanks for your information. As I am now 6 months out from my surgery and LARS has been a huge issue for me, debilitating. If I can add to your details, one thing I have gathered from my process is that the doctors, now that I have had multiple and then different teams of, they don't know everything nor do they consider further out then their particular expertise. You have to look to alternative sources, request an integrative oncologist, look to a naturopathic Doctor with an oncology background. As I struggle with Lars, I do keep a strict restrictive diet, not what I would call the healthiest due to the LARS but one keeping sugar out. Also with all the supplements to support your body I feel I am doing my best to keep cancer from returning. I am now back at UCSF to treat a lymph node with Colin rectal with radiation and then I also have lymphoma (non issue at this time). So the idea of one day being cancer free is an odd idea to wrap my head around. Again staying as healthy as possible, working to keep a good mind set, keeping up with my exercise and trying to find a new normal. Cheers

    Questions:
1 - Coffee.. Caffienated? I drink more than one cup caffienated and I'm jittery, bouncing off the walls, and can't sleep at night.
2 - Tree nuts and raw veggies.. I just had my ileostomy takedown 3 weeks ago and just started the second round of chemo. BM's are not easy at all and wondering if I'll ever get to eat these things again?
Interestingly, when the pandemic first started and all the grocery shelves were empty, except for the produce department, I decided to go mostly vegan at the time. I was doing great and had dropped about 25 lbs. I had zero signs of cancer at this point.
Fast forward a year and signs started presenting itself. Bleeding, penciling bm's, but no pain. I initially thought the bleeding was just hemorrhoids, though I wasn't straining during the bathroom trips, and there was no swelling. On a visit with my regular physician, she urged me to get a colonoscopy. I was 57 1/2 yrs old and hadn't done one yet. So I did it in January and wouldn't you know it? Just entering stage 3a cancer. And it was large enough that they said I've had it awhile to get that big. Decades, maybe?
As no signs had presented itself until I went semi-vegan (I still ate seafood), I asked if all the raw foods I had been eating could have irritated the cancer and "awakened" it, to start bleeding? Though I was not given a definitive "yes", I was told the increased fiber "could have" rubbed it raw. Which is the point of eating raw veggies, lol, it helps to clean out our colon.
Anyways, I'm on a low residue diet right now, because of the surgeries and chemo, but miss eating a healthy, loaded salad so much. I've heard there are people who never get to go back to eating raw veggies again and truly hope I'm not one of them. In my opinion, a low residue diet will only lead to diabetes. Lol. White rice, potatoes, and pastas. Yikes.
3 - How long did it take you before you could start eating raw foods again?

Hi Jelena, I was just diagnosed with colorectal cancer last year in Nov. 2021. I’ve been through all the chemo and radiation treatments and ileostomy surgeries. I watched some of your videos through my journey and I just want to thank you for putting yourself out there for all of us. I just have a question about the coffee because of the caffeine. I actually stopped drinking coffee and sodas or anything with caffeine about 3 years ago, although I love coffee I was also asked to stop drinking anything with caffeine due to nodules in the breast. Also, I loved eating lots of different nuts like almonds, cashews, and walnuts but then I read that if eaten a lot it could lead to colorectal cancer. It’s just really hard to find good evidenced based research sometimes and it is confusing when you find research that contradicts others.

You seem very knowledgeable and I appreciate your experience but can you please try to stop moving so much when you speak. I actually try to cover the bottom of the screen to listen to your videos. No disrespect intended. Maybe think of it as a constructive criticism
