Mr. Watts has a CD where he plays all of Gershwin's short piano pieces from the published music book that is for sale.....You might have bought it.....If you did, what was your opinion of his playing?
Bought this album in 76 when it came out. I love the entire thing. My favorite piece from the Gershwin songs is "'Swonderful". Watts took a more wistful approach to the piece, which in my opinion adds a sweeter, gentler interpretation than would normally be found. Andre later related that Andre Previn scolded him for that interpretation, telling him "It's a dance tune, kid." (Heard this during a Studs Terkel interview from 1986). It was beautiful to me.
A guy came to Peace College, Raleigh around 1979 playing Gershwin: I then bought Watts by George and FELL in love with both!!! Thank you so now I can save Andre sharing my love!!
I have always figured that the only version of the preludes worth listening to was the 1926 recording by George Gershwin. Andre Watts has proven me wrong.
I listened to the Watts by George album today. It was the 1st Watts album I purchased. Why are you no longer here? 😢😢 Thank God we have these videos and recordings, but after almost 5 months, I still hurt when I listen and watch....

Con todo respeto; en youtube estan los preludios y se puede encontrar la verdadera interpretacion de los 3 preludios..... Los escucho en el original de 78rpm desde hace 70 años...
anyone who is worrying that they might be prone to dementia should play the second prelude - playing the piano stimulates the brain and helps to keep it active - but playing crossie-buckle (cross hands) is apparently particulalry beneficial - I'm relearning the blue prelude and finding the cross hands work in the second theme challenging to say the least - but better than doing crosswords!

Embarking on an Andre Watts tribute journey via YT. RIP!
He shows a much better understanding of jazz/swing than many of the classical interpreters of these preludes. Bravo. First rate rendition.

Yes, some are super awkward. Also his double scale at the end of the 1st one was so tasty.
And that the way you do it!! Hot, Cool, Jazzy, Sultry, Dramatic, and everything in between.
Absolutely beatiful, the essence of New York, Thanks Andre Watts
Thank you for posting! I just listened to three of these, and Watts's version has the most life and personality. Wow.
love how he shades the tones1
WOW! What a national treasure!
This is Gershwin at his best. Another among his many master pieces! Weldone and unforgetable!
Have never seen anyone work harder with better results!! SO amazing! God didn't have to give us music. Appreciation, thank you.
What an amazing musician
R.I.P. Maestro.
Rest in peace ❤

Bravo!!!
Andre Watts! The The Greatest Pianist ALIVE!!!!!!!!!
I agree!
Have to disagree, there are a lot of great pianists, they are just different
@@nicolasramirez3456 Whatever- no discussion about his performance in these preludes, though. Really good.

Beautiful playing, how Gershwin should be played ♥

Prelude #1 sounds like a Gershwin medley
Prelude #2 sounds like Tin Pan alley
The 3rd Prelude always reminded me of Charlie Chaplin
BRAVO !!!!
Magnificent playing.

Do you have the full PBS broadcast? I remember seeing this on CH 13 in NYC.
Yes, but had to upload each performance of Mr. Watts playing. Don't ask me why, if you know what I mean.

What?!
Watts always looks cons taped - or where is my EX_LAX???
why did you cut the part where he brakes the string and walks off the stage? Pointless
I cut that part because it delayed the concert....and who wants to watch a piano tech change a piano string....
