Whose here to Remember what a phenomenal and monumental player Mr. Andre Watts was 😢❤❤ Rip 1946-2023 Hit like if you love his music and endurance it forever 🎶🎼🎹🎹
When I first moved to Dallas, my first social endeavor - a box seat ticket for his appearance at the Myerson, whose acoustics are absolutely perfect, rivaling that of Carnegie Hall. André did my favorite piano concerto, the Mendelssohn No. 1. And, as usual he executed with absolute perfection. And, as usual, the Second Movement with its adanté lamenting almost hymnal sound nearly brought me to tears because of its beauty. This is a major major loss to the world of classical music.
You are so lucky to have him as your godfather! I saw him when I was sixteen or seventeen when my piano teacher brought me to a concert when he was just starting out around 1970. I had front row seats and could see the sweat on his brow - I fell in love with him that day! What magic...!
The American pianist, who was struggling with cancer, has died aged 77. He was professor at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University. The son of an African-American serviceman and a Hungarian mother, born in June 1946, Watts lived in Europe until the age of 8. At 16 he played the first Liszt concerto with Leonard Bernstein on national television. Before the month was out, Bernstein booked him again in place of Glenn Gould. Watts maintained his fame and made multiple recordings. RIP Andre
Andre Watts plays every single note with emotion; a virtuoso performance with simplicity and always musicality.❤❤❤ Modern pianists should learn from Andre Watts how to play fast and be expressive without circus-style gestures while hammering the keyboard.
Absolutely beautiful. I love his interpretations. Pay attention to they way he plays, how he moves his fingers ....facial expressions. Splendor for his musical skills. For me, the best pianist ever...Love, respect from Chicago.
I saw Andre Watts perform in Chicago several times, and the first professional concert I saw as a young kid was him playing the Tchaikovsky concerto in Carnegie Hall. My first classical music album I owned was an audio cassette of him performing that with Bernstein conducting. The most memorable concert moment I ever experienced was him playing la campanella at Lincoln Center Avery Fischer Hall, on the 100th anniversary of Liszt's death. The "singingest" I ever heard a piano was him playing the Mozart Rondo in a minor: the most thrillingly thunderous chords I ever heard on a piano were Watts playing the Appassionata and the E major Liszt Paganini Etude "La Chasse."
Phenomenal pianist! Long live master Andre Watts! Back in the 1990s, Mr. Watts had few rivals, but as so many pianists have been born, we are to assume that it is even more difficult to mark for such extraordinary a talent! I personally think Super-Watts is one of the best pianists ever!

I watched this video a lot. Every time, I am amazed at what a great pianist Andre was. But what amazes me even more is that pianist on RUclips who pale in comparison to Andre, have 10 times or even 100 times the views than this video has! There is one pianist who dresses like she's going out to a club to pick up a man who gets tons of views.
@rogerstrukhoff4716 LOL.She probably picks up lots of guys, if you know what I mean. You know nothing about great pianists. Watch Andre play Liszt. He blows Yuja away. Blows...LOL.
@@roncaruso931 Andre's La Campanella on his Capitol recording from many decades ago was the first performance I heard of the piece. It has served as the benchmark, maybe gold standard, since that time. In contrast, the only Yuja recording I found here was her being tentative with it at 19 years old. But I didn't say she was better than Andre, let alone better with this piece. I said most of her playing is magnificent. If the way she dresses intimidates you, so be it. You should at least have the courage to mention her name, rather than being snide & smug. Perhaps it's best for you to refrain commenting on pianists, and concentrate on something for which you're better equipped, like strange animal acts or onanism.
@rogerstrukhoff4716 LOL. Don't tell me how to comment. Did you vote for Biden? We still have free speech in our country. Yuja, or whatever her name is, dresses like a, you know what, because she is mediocre. When she plays Carnegie Hall, she tours the world, plays Lincoln Center, and gets rave reviews from respected music critics, maybe then I'll respect her. Don't forget, Leonard Bernstein gave Andre his big break when Andre was only 18 years old. Andre was on TV. Imagine the pressure! Now go and get your rocks off watching Yuga in her sexy clothing.
So many performances by other performers are choppy between notes and measures, but Andre Watts is the only one that smooths the flow between notes and measures and it's really the only version worth listening to.
A staccattified approach to La Campanella. I should mention that I always saw key of A-flat as blue, and that the A-note always sounds like a twinkling star. So, this makes sense that they will call this "The Bell." La Campanella. I also explain this on my main channel, The Acoustic Rabbit Hole, for those interested. Be well! - _The Acoustic Rabbit Hole_

Ew don’t use his death as a like factory
Andre Watts is a phenomenal talent, and also my godfather. I still get goosebumps when I hear him play Liszt- this piece especially.
Enjoy!
Lucky! He’s a legend

Brilliant performance and video.
R.I.P. Mr Andre Watts, who died today at the age of 77

One of the best pianists in the world 🌎
There was no pianist that could play Liszt with such emotion and power. Andre Watts was a brilliant pianist. RIP Andre.
Can't believe I've lived 30 years and this was my first time listening to this pianist! Mind blown.
A GREAT PIANO MASTER OF THE WORLDS FINEST .REST PEACEFULLY EVERLASTING DEAR MAESTRO WATTS.

Great music from a Grand Master 🎹 pianist
DESCANSE EN PAZ MAESTRO !!! TODA LA SIERRA DEL PERU SIEMPRE LO RECORDARA !!!
RIP a great pianist with a superb technique and a big sense if phrasing....and very elegant then.
Formidable, brillante.
Rest in peace, Maestro.

He is always one of my favorite pianist ... love his interpretation 👍👍
He is from another Galaxy...👏👏👏 Maybe some people don't realize...but It is true

exactly. robots playing super fast is obviously not what ROMANTICS had in mind.
