    • @ProgrammistMusic
      @ProgrammistMusic 5 месяцев назад

      the gaming PC is usually more expensive than a decent VR headset these days, especially for Flight Simulation. A Quest 2/3 can give you a very good qualiy with the benefits of having some additional features, which can help improve the experience. Quest headsets are wireless and have a build in upscale, sharpening and frame interpolation functionalilty, which can be used with Virtual Desktop. With those options enabled you can run at 120Hz with a decent framerate and optimized resolution (especially using DLSS).

    IL 2 in VR is sick. DCS is great but much more difficult to use without peripherals.

    • @matydrum
      @matydrum 5 месяцев назад

      why? You can have buttons on the hotas like in IL-2 and you can, unlke in IL-2, use the mouse. And the ww2 reflected simulation historicals campaigns in DCS are so good! Much better than IL-2 campaigns imo.

      @-Zevin- 5 месяцев назад +1

      @@matydrum While I think (some) of the DCS campaigns are done at a higher level than the IL2 campaigns. It's worth mentioning how incredibly limited and overpriced those campaigns are. In IL2 with the dynamic campaigns (while not perfect) you have near limitless single player gameplay. Once you have done a scripted single player campaign once it's just not the same to fly it over and over again. I like DCS but I vastly prefer the single player package of content for IL2 for warbirds, for Jets of course, DCS is the go to.

    • @matydrum
      @matydrum 5 месяцев назад

      @@-Zevin-I don't know, I used to play almost only dcs; I play only ww2, refelcted campaigns for ww2 are not expensive, what could make them expensive is that you have to have the ww2 assets pack and the map, now the normandy two has all the refleted campaigns remade for it. And they are so well made and historicly accurate, with voice parts and everything. And now when I go back to Il-2, I miss doing the cold and dark start up wich puts me ine the immersion. Now I mainly play dcs. I had an amazing time with IL- 2, and I want to finish the typhoon campaign. But the graphics, details, and clikcable cockpits of dcs hold me back from going back to IL-2. I especialy like starting the aircraft myself, and by managing the cockpits of diffrent aicraft, when you go back to IL-2 it seems like your' always flying the same aicraft because you dont have the feeling of having to know where the levers and buttons really are.

    VR flying is a whole nother immersion level. I especially like the ease of high deflection shooting. It does help to get your HOTAS and some button boxes so your not fumbling with the mouse and keyboard.
    I simply can't go back to flat screen flying even with it being harder to ID.
    OTH, you're not the first creator to comment on how it makes recording harder.
    Overall a good review. The button placement issue has been commented on by many reviews. I'm not sure how that made it through the design/testing phase.

    I went from a HP G2 to the Pimax Crystal and the weight difference was noticeable. It took a while for me to get it to sit properly. I also wear glasses and the full face cushion that comes with it, in my experience, does not provide enough of a gap. My initial solution was to buy cheap thin reading glasses, which was OK but the final answer to my problem was getting the thicker face cushion from Pimax. It also improved the comfort level.
    In terms of hardware - You get used to where you put you mouse if you need to use it. However I find that voice attack to be invaluable. I will set up the HOTAS for the most needed commands, and use voice attack for the others.
    As a further level of immersion with VR, I find that a Buttkicker (or any haptic device) adds another level to the experience.
    Have I had problems with it? Just one very weird one (only because I haven't heard anyone else having it) - I need to shut Microsoft Edge browser in order for it to start up. After it starts I can bring up the browser with no issues.

    I eventually upgraded from VR to Tobi Eye Tracking 5 and its 1st and foremost liberating to have the gift of sight back, no more relearning my Virpils/TM, no more fumbling like a blind man, im able to use my ''Streamdeck/Tablets/Oled/Ultrawidescreen monitors/KB''. I had a CV1 own a G2, but for me, until VR overcums the clunky cap, makes its form factor much more compact, free from the constraints of being tethered, and the ability via mic, to switch out of VR, and being a perpetual pain with it needing constant tweaking, its a stagnant cash grab, and a step back. Tobi free's you from everything that VR suffers from.

      Yeah, I always think, "wow I might be able to afford a VR headset!" Then reality slowly hits me and I also think "Then I would have to also get a new GPU, and while I'm at it I don't want to be CPU bound so I need a new CPU, and thus a new Mobo, and if I get a new mobo I need new ram.... and on and on." and then I just end up not doing it. At a certain point VR and machines in general will be cheap enough that you can get a whole setup from scratch for like $500 that's when it's really going to be a game changer for most people imo.

      I mean, there are Quest 2 and 3 HMDs but if you don't like Meta, which is a reasonable thing to think, yeah. That said, don't expect anything like that to be cheap, you are buying screens, lenses, batteries, and tbf on Quest HMDs it's already cheap plastics everywhere and crappy controllers which can easily break to the point that you have to spend even more on aftermarket parts, including a powerbank to play wireless mode longer. For anything above $1K, I mean you are paying for the OLED/QLED displays to begin with, and everything else generally better.

    I've got the HP reverb G2 and what i've found is that the resolution is fine but in VR everything looks so much closer so you feel like you can't ID targets until they're look too close.
    I'm not sure if the Pimax has this but the HP one has a kind of distorted periphery around the edges of the lenses so when you're looking up close and your eyes are pointing inwards you're looking through the distortion which makes reading the dials in the cockpit quite difficult. The other think thats a bit lackluster is the FOV.
    It's still a good experience and i'm glad I got it as apposed to nothing especially considering it's age but I wouldn't get it today there are better options available.
    Fyi I mostly use it in Il-2, i've used it an DCS a bit but it's worse for DCS owing to the more time spent looking at the inside of the cockpit.

Might not be the most accurate flight game ever, but it's credible and the features is what sets it apart. I even read somewhere that the recent EW update was somewhat making a real EW specialist happy in how it was designed (ofc not 100% faithful to reality, Warthunder grade military secrets and stuff y'know). The RCS model also works well in this game.

    I tried the Pimax. It didn't work for me, but that's no knock on them, it could have just been me. However, I will say that requesting a refund, within their refund timeframe, was god awful to get to go through. I first requested a refund prior to January 1 of this year. It took until March 1 for me to get my refund. I had to fight with them along the way repeatedly to get that refund. They did not provide any return shipping label, although initially they promised to reimburse me for shipping, after I shipped to them at a cost of $268 they then informed me that the usual shipping cost was $40. After providing them with documentation and fighting with them repeatedly, I finally got them to issue the promised reimbursement on my full shipping cost. The total refund time wasn't completed until March 11th. So...IF you buy from Pimax I would MAKE ABSOLUTLY Sure that you want their product, because their customer service and processing a refund is absolutely atrocious.

    VR shines in two particular areas: simracing and flightsim.
    Assetto corsa (with content manager) is absolutely fantastic in VR.
    And in simracing, there is no need to visually identify a pixel (plane) in the distance. 😉
    I have 1800 hours on assetto corsa, since 2018, with different VR headsets. My current HPG2v2 gives me great satisfaction in this area.
    But it must be admitted that the rest of the VR games are particularly uninteresting and very quickly boring (except this marvel of Alyx, which is extraordinary in VR).
    A truly extraordinary experience in simracing, even after years, the wow effect is still there, every time I put on the helmet to race cars (I'm a big fan of cars from the 50s/60s/70s in particular : ruclips.net/video/lAoPEMWv45M/видео.html ) or to simply take a ride in a super car on the many sublime tracks.
    It's so intense, immersive and sublime that since the first time I put on the VR headset, in 2018, I have never simraced on a flat screen again.

    How does the foveated (spelling?) rendering get implemented? Is it a Pimax software that needs updated now and then, does DCS include that in its engine, or is it a video driver and/or DirectX feature that all software and devices can tap into? I'm very intrigued by that, and if it could be ported to other games or headsets (sort of like FSR got modded into DLSS games), and slightly worried that the renderer may stop being updated when DCS or Windows gets updated and leave a non-foveated headset only.

    • @SargonDragon
      @SargonDragon 5 месяцев назад +1

      Foveated rendering is not broadly supported in PCVR yet. There are very few VR headsets with eye tracking so far, and therefore little impetus for software support for it. But it nevertheless does exist. Some games natively support it, like DCS. For other games, Pimax software uses DLL injection to mod foveated rendering support into the game engine. This works for most VR games which use the Unity engine (which is most VR games. Unity has much more penetration in VR than Unreal does).
      Foveated rendering support has been improving and becoming more widespread over time, and this trend is expected to continue. Heavy simulators are where it is needed the most, and consequently where it has seen the most support.

    • @RonJeremy514

      They do wear things, but it's not as unbalanced to the front like that. Not even infantries with NVGs on helmets try to put too much weight on the front and put weights in the rear to counterbalance the NODs. Besides, high-cut helmets are getting trendy for comfort, removing unecessary weight, and sacrificing some percentage of protection to the sides. The weight distribution of military pilot helmets is pretty even I imagine, just like a motorcycle open face helmet. What is really excruciating after a while I'd imagine would be the heat, needing to rehydrate, eat, the sun in your face, overall fatigue when the flight lasts long or performing intense maneuvers and pre-flight physical/mental shape.

    45 FPS in DCS is miserable and there's no other way but to upgrade your PC if you want to run it at full resolution. Had to get a 4080 to get 90 FPS on reverb in DCS. It's a very expensive hobby

    Funny how there are no reviews from people who actually bought it. Hey Pimax, where is my VR Headset?

    Man. Your stick is too high. Sticks should be set to have your arm resting in a natural position. Side stick is designed to have your arm resting at a sub 90 degree angle with the main hand grip inline with your arm to protect your wrist. Center sticks are designed to have your arm rest naturally on your lap and the actual grip is rotated 25degrees to the left to promote a natural wrist alignment with your controlling arm. Not having the stick rotated properly and having the stick elevated at almost your chest both is bad for your arm, shoulder and wrist and its also limiting your input as you have reduced leverage on the control. You're also WAY to close to the stick.

      Unfortunately, I can't have my stick much lower due to my desk and chair setup. It's also comfortable for me where it is now so.
      To each their own.

    Half-baked beta test hardware. Meta Quest 3 vastly better overall.

      Cope harder. Better in what exactly? Field of view? Nope. Clarity? Nope? Or is it because you can‘t afford it? If you would have said Varjo, ok then we could discuss it.

      I own a Quest 2 and from the data sheet, I can tell the massive difference between Quest HMDs and this. Eye tracking? QLED displays (have you ever seen one irl and how the colors are vibrant, accurate and enhanced even more with HDR 10+? As responsive as good quality OLED/QLED displays?) Massive pixel density difference for a sharper image which matters A LOT in VR? FOV? Pass through cameras overall quality? Tracking? Controllers quality? Build quality of the HMD itself? The various issues with Meta and the firmwares which, like, prevented me from time to time to access Air Link or using the Link Cable at all (so no VR and PCVR at all basically)?
      See, your Quest 3 has nothing on this. Except the rings around the controllers which are non existent now. Wow. Controllers which are absolutely crappy and will eventually break to begin with and then you have to buy the Apple premium grade price Meta accessories on their website or irl, or chinese aftermarket ones, and a spare powerbank for longer wireless sessions. The face pieces on Quest HMDs are atrocious in terms of comfort, , the lenses are not as good, the straps hurt literally everyone and any head shapes. They also bumped up the prices quite a bit by not commercializing the versions with less onboard storage at some point.
      That's a lot of cons for Meta. Quest HMDs are for people who never tried VR and want to start somewhere on a budget but if you consider upgrading to get the full VR experience, you'll have to spend a lot more. That's the truth.
