New Mercedes CLE revealed: Better than a BMW 4 Series?!

- Meet the Mercedes CLE!
It’s an all-new car that rolls up as a replacement for the C-Class Coupe, C-Class Cabriolet, E-Class Coupe & E-Class Cabriolet… That’s right, four cars rolled into one! The question is, does this approach offer enough to strike fear into BMW and Audi?
Well let’s take a look over the car. Starting with the design, it’s certainly pretty striking! Up top there’s a newly-designed, big grille, which is flanked either side by newly-designed, thinner headlights. Around the side you’ll find some cool alloy designs, and around the back Mercedes has gone for a simpler design than other new cars in its line-up… But that’s no bad thing! Sure, the side profile looks relatively similar to the outgoing C-Class, but all-in-all there’s no denying this is a good-looking car!
Step inside and the interior seems all-too familiar to the current C-Class. But just like the side profile, this is no bad thing, as the interior is absolutely gorgeous! Not only will you find a huge infotainment screen stretching up from the centre console to the dash, you’ll also be treated to a number of colour combinations, along with a cabin swamped with soft-touch materials. This is one seriously impressive interior!
When it comes to engines, there are a number of petrol and diesel options to choose from. The entry-level is the CLE 200, which is a 2-litre 4 cylinder coupled with an EV motor to deliver around 200hp. The range-topper will be the CLE 450, which should be able to deliver 381hp from a 3-litre 6-cylinder engine! It should also propel you to 60mph in about 4.4-seconds.
What’s more, we expect an AMG edition to be unveiled in the future, which is likely to come equipped with the same 6-cylinder engine that’s being developed for the forthcoming E63. With that in mind, we expect it to be able to produce at least 700hp!!
So what do you think, was this a masterstroke by Mercedes to combine these cars? Or should they have kept the C & E-Class coupes separate? Let us know below!

There is not a single ounce of "E" in this model, the main point of the previous E coupe was the missing B pillar.
Well the last gen CLS is closer to the W213 rather than the W222 s class
So True. That’s literally the best thing about my old ass CLK 209 lmao
@@rekaarnes Also got a 209 with the 3.5L V6. Great sound and the missing b pillar is just gorgeous
@@Nabilllllll CLS has always been an E class 4 door coupe
@@Doa744 So why would it be weird when the CLE shares most of it parts with the C class? CLS = E class CLE = C class 🤷🏻♂️
The previous E Coupe was mad gorgeous. Let's hope for the Amg version
Yeah this looks more c-coupe than e-coupe. Meh
This is not an e class coupe replacement. It's 100% a c class coupe, he only mentioned them because mercedes discontinued e class coupe/cabrio and s class coupe/cabrio at least for now. It's a shame that they did this and didn't even made a e63amg coupe for the previous generations.
@@george.992and the CLS.
@@v12-s65it has it, they showed in the premiere
@@george.992wrong, this is a bigger car than the E-Class Coupé. It is a Mix between C and E.
Both previous gen E Classes looked absolutely gorgeous. This replacement, nah man I just don't know. Sensibility in these manufacturers is just killing the fun now. This looks like what a new C Class Coupe would've been.
But don’t underestimate the size.
It’s bigger than the previous gen E coupe so it’s a worthy successor to the E coupe and the C coupe.
I AGREE
are merc fans delusional bec theve looked absolutely hideous
@@alalal123421 say that again in english
Remember their main focus is the Chinese market
1. This looks like an update over the previous C class coupe.
2. Even the interior is based on the current c class.
3. Back then the e class coupe was based on the W204 c class
4. Call it an e class instead of the c class coupe because they can charge more
5. The car industry is in a very sad state
the front looks better than an m440i at least :))
Absolutely agree! How can it be an E coupe replacement when it has a C class interior?
Wrong. The last e class coupe (C238) was based on the e class (w213 lineage). The C207 e class coupe (W212 lineage) was based on the c class.
The car industry just wants money now.
Cars are going to be built like crap on purpose, even Toyotas, compared to their older models.
Planned obsolescence. They need more customers as soon as possible. Cars are going to break more often to accomplish this.
german car industry is all a con
The previous e class rear lights were perfect, luxurious and elegent yet still very modern and would suit this even more and suits the sportier amg package too
And also more luxurious as even the JAGUAR XJR SEDAN.
@@purwantiallan5089But reliability way behind other brands. Interior for Mercedes needs to improve a lot and still can’t beat other brands
I prefer the new star tail lights don’t like the tiny rear window on the old e class coupe it ruined its lines
I own an E CLASS coupe and bought it over the c class because of its more better looks and no b pillar. The best thing about it is being able to put down all windows and no pillar in the middle. Mercedes have really missed a trick combining the two coupes. Because the cle is basically a c class coupe. I really hope now they bring out a s class coupe
S class coupe is already dead bud, new SL replaced both S class coupe and AMG GT Coupe
So I think Mercedes now makes only 2 coupes: CLE & SL
Mercedes aim is to cut down the model range, hence getting rid of the C and E coupe/cabriolet.
The S Class coupe went a couple of years ago, The CLS has also been dropped.
They are also going to get rid of the C and E class estates because the SUV market is bigger.
@@See.You.Soon.027 that's how it was in the early 2000s when we had the CLK
@@Manc780but the estate sells pretty good aswell also they just released new versions
E class size, C class looks, C class level interior... E class price!
which was bigger
After watching this, I'm even more confused than Mercedes
the only drawback of this car is the rear lights and the shape of the rear bumper. supposedly, for the rear bumper at the bottom it is made a little dive inward like having a diffuser. the rear bumper is actually protruding backwards underneath so it looks strange.
*edit: when I saw it on the Mercedes channel, it turns out that the rear is not bad. apparently because the car video is shown in black, so the diffuser is not visible because the color resembles the color of the car body. white and blue for CLE turned out to be more suitable than black, because the lamp connection on the stop lamp did not match if it was the same as the car body color.
Actually true , finally someone noticed!!
It looks like infinity Q60 from the back
@@sarthakverma4838this AMG CLE is 9.0/10.
@@ozkanbiryan4534nah, modern benz coupes always had that look imo
The w204 coupe was all my dreams were about, such an elegant car
That back is a huge letdown . . . they are slowly pushing the hideous round, sloppy lines of the EQ lines to make the public more keen to them
I wish they’d at least gone for the pillarless design. I always preferred the E over the C for that reason.
The taillight design reminds me of an entry-level A-Class
Mat chomping at the bit to put the carwow stick of truth up it’s rear end 😂
There is something distinctly Infiniti Q60 about that rear end. But overall, I think it's the best looking coupe maybe trading with the a5/s5.
exterior (to me) looks heavily inspired by Infiniti Q60... they r way too similar
As a current e class coupe owner, im sad the b pilar is on the car, the main feature of the e class coupe was no b pilar, and rear roll down windows.
They did well to combine all the models in one
thats true they were too similar and now they can put all the effort into one
No they didnt. There is nothing "E" about this car. its literally a c class coupe that they can charge more for now bc they added an undeserved "E" to it
Lack of sales volume meant it was really the only choice.
@@joeyn3590 Its longer then last years E class coupe and has e class powertrains! Not many ppl buy coupes/sports cars much anymore anyway so they needed to simplify the lineup, I mean this is just like going back to the good old early 2000s when we had the CLK
@@joeyn3590what about combining AMG CLE into a GTR?
they should do something about those black plastic covers that try to look like vents. they look cheap as fk. They should make some sculptural vents instead.
Thank you BMW and Mercedes for making me love my 2018 Audi S5 even more! Keep up the "Innovative" work!
I'm curious how many miles do you have on your S5 & have there been any issues
There could have been more size specifications supplied in this video. I believe there was a quick reference about the CLE being a little longer than the E-Class coupe. I would have appreciated more specifics about width and interior room. Since the exterior and interior styling most resemble the outgoing C-Class coupe, I concluded that the size was more C-Class as well.
The more I see this car the more I like it. Like everyone else I am disappointed about the B pillar, but if the result is a dramatic improvement in rigidity, I can forgive it. I’m excited to drive one since this is now on the short list for my next car.
It looks very good in matte black, that's for sure
i don't think so,, the black matte just made it looks very weird at the rear, because the black tail light connection with the black body color makes it look weird, and the diffuser is invisible, blue and white is perfect for CLE. as shown in the official Mercedes channel ad
that has nothing to do with "E" the CLE should have been called CLC, since it's a C class based car and looks exactly like a GLC coupe lowered go the ground. buttom line, no e class coupe so far.
I've been eyeing the A5 Sportback as replacement for my A3, but waiting for the new gen. I like the 5 doors on it, but do really like the looks of this CLE...
Audi is going to make huge changes in A4 and A6 in next years
A4 its gona be the new A5 and the A6 its the new A7
Read this notice today ..
Audi take long way to update their lineup
i would have liked the SL back on the end of the CLE; that would look stunning
The cle's driving bay is way to forward got have the same back. The SL's works because the cabin is behind the middle.of the car
Its ta good looking car but the rear lights maybe curve a little too much around the corner and into the side profile. Looks a little unrefined when looking form behind and seeing the details disappear to the sides
Agree man.
Hoping that the cabrio is a full 4 seater like the previous 2 E Class cabrio. Looks wonderful.
I’ve been a big Mercedes fan all my life and have had many models over the years but now I’m starting to get a little confused with them. I think this new CLE is good looking but I have no idea which direction Mercedes is going.
I think they have done well in bring a single model of their coupe
Do you really think so? Essentially they are selling you a C-Class in terms of interior quality for the price of an old E-Class. I mean great deal, but just not for you...
@@gabrielhacker4251 in my own opinion
I like it that way
The CLK is back!
No. A CLK is a pillar less coupe. Kind of the whole point. This is not.
@@michaelkearns9256 Yeah, unfortunately. The comment is written before the premiere started, based on what I read for the model until the moment. It's more like next generation C-Class coupe...
The first CLK (208) had a b pillar, so yes, I’d say this is the new CLK.
They have missed a trick .
It should definitely have been pillar less and folks would have been happy ( maybe).
But it should also have an E class interior …
Then it would be spot on.
And that would justify the price
Reminds me of the CLK , which has a C series platform underneath but way better looking coupe with frameless B and C pillars
Need to make a black series that would be nice with a wide body kit
The one thing this brand new Mercedes needs and it doesn’t have are no pillar door frames so all 4 windows could go down on the coupe I know the convertible will have it but that’s a huge let down with the coupe I loved that about the e class coupes forever also the taillight bar isn’t my favorite..
I like it as a replacement for the C class. I think it looks really good. Although the rear end is something to get used to .. I just don’t see it replacing the E class? Feels like cost cutting to me.
So it’s a modern reissue of the CLK. I liked that model, its special versions (GTR and DTM) were insanely cool.
But all 4 windows went down and was pillarless. So it's not at all like a clk.
Great Vid, very informative! However can we please get more content on the new C63, it would be great to see it in a drag race vs the BMW M3 Comp. Also can we get a review on the new ford ranger. Please!
I mean all the models it replaces were not big sellers so most likely this was to save Mercedes tons of money in development costs but I suspect it is more of a C-class than an E-class, but it does look pretty sharp and am sure it will be a great car.
They have just updated the c-class coupe to match the saloon and made it a bit longer. It is not luxurious enough to replace the e-class coupe in my view and has discarded some of the key design points of the e-class model too. What will existing e-class coupe drivers move to? Surely not this. No plug-in hybrid from day one is a big mistake too.
The Interior looks like the C-Class but it will run the latest infotainment that is used in the new E-Class! I'd say a superscreen option is very unlikely though.
Not sure how i feel about the rear design but i know these things looks absolutely brilliant in person 😅
Brilliant move .. it’s a perfect move ! We haven’t liked a Benz since seeing this ! Excited to see it in person !
I will be honest this is not as good looking as the previous E class and C class coupe!
The rear looks like a 2015 desing
What happens to the C/E coupes now? Also the CLS/CLA line I hear is getting discontinued?
So beautiful. I am fed up with suv cross overs etc - I want to get in Coupe again :)
So it's C class based but they named it as an E class so they can charge more, correct? 😆
Correct
🤷♂️
it's funny how the CLA face-lift is so slept on
Yeah the cla45s is a amazing car all around
The W124 coupe (C124) was the last time MB made an actual coupe of the E-class. After that it was a mix between C and E class.
1:12 🤔 that front section "RH fender & headlight", looks like the previous bmw 4 series (F32)
Would really like if Mercedes can release a new E class based coupe, maybe new CLS?
CLS is in its last generation due to poor sales, its pretty much the worst selling of all their models
@@Carfan678 Yeah because the old CLS was much better. New CLS sucks
@@systembolaget9044 nah I think the addition of the GT 4 door to the lineup made things even more complicated and the cls kinda became irrelevant not to mention spending closer to s class money than e class money on something thats based on the E
Profile looks exactly like my old 2010 Honda Accord Coupe 😂
It's an actual joke how Mercedes get away with selling the same car. They all look exactly the same and over priced, their fanbase are loyal and remind me a lot of Tesla's one. Will buy regardless
Spotted the new E class AMG and CLE AMG testing on the Grossglockner in Austria lastweek. From the engine sound i can say the CLE is a 4 cilinder and the new E amg has a full electric mode, didn't have the chance to hear the engine.
I wish they would bring back the S-class coupe/the old CL (similar to how BMW resurrected the 8 series).....miss the days when they used to produce them....gorgeous rocketship of a thing!
I have current c coupe, and I've been waiting for this. This looks like an upgrade I'd get, looks good, and compact. It's certainly not an E class coupe as it seems to compact, guess I'll have to see it in the flesh. I think they'll price it out of the range of a typical C coupe buyer.
Apparently it’s bigger than the current gen E coupe!
I'd take the C class coupe over this garbage any day. 100 of these rear lights wouldn't make your c class Coupes gorgeous 4 lined rear lights and you know it. It's what makes the c class coupe better looking than the e class coupe. Never mind those fake exhuast tips than lead to nowhere 😂
it will be way more expansive than the c coupé... was why they called it CL"E"... to justify the new price...
@@adidkjfnah, that’s pretty short sighted thinking ngl
I’ve seen the 53 AMG version of this car. Looked absolutely insane! Extra wide fenders and big diffuser. But I’m afraid it didn’t sound like a V8. To me it sounded like a 4 cylinder. Maybe a straight 6.
A test car in camo?
@@DonatProdanSimRacing Yes, it visited us at Brabus.
the 53 version isn't the full amg model anyway, so there is hope that we could get a 63 version with a V8, although I'm not keeping my hopes up.
@@jkliao6486 Im not sure what it was. Could have been the 63 as well. But it had oval exhaust pipes. Then on the other hand I doubt that they would make the 53 version so aggressive. Like I said it had huge air intakes and really wide fenders like the C63s have. And a massive diffuser. Don’t know if they would do that to the 53 line up. But again the sound was disappointing

So this is just a car version of the new GLC coupe? Got it
The new c class coupe looks great!
What about the weight which is arguably one of the main factor affecting their preformance compared to bmw and audi
Somehow the designer seems to be inspired by the Opel Rekord D Coupe.
I like it 👍😊
It’s cool but I’m disappointed the side windows are not frameless and you’re not able to wind down the small side window. Seems more C class than E class.
Not bad look
But the current/outgoing E CLASS COUPE IS VERY BEAUTIFUL
So basically a C-Class Coupe for the price of an E-Class Coupe.
whats the diffeernce between normal coupe vs cl mercedes?
As an owner of a previous generation E400 cabriolet that gets compliments everywhere i go, I love the interior of this new one but I'm waiting to sew what the new cabriolet looks like to give a honest opinion.
0-60 slower than a cla 250? Lol and they're going to charge closer to 6 figures for it too
CLA 2 door version
I think it is slowly starting to look like a new Opel Insignia, at least from the front.
Even in the promo video visible frameless window issue, will be a wind noise.
All I wanted was a proper upgrade of the old c63 coupe, a V8😢, not too sure of the back of this CLE but let's see this on the road, not too bad though...
One of the most interesting characteristic of Mercedes' coupes was the lack of B Pillar and the feeling it gives you while driving with all 4 windows down, this is gone with this new CLE so it became just another coupe more, boring
I’m here in Australia and was looking here at the E53 AMG, not liking the new CLE looking more on the cheap side to me, probably gonna stick to the older model of the E
Please do a c7 zr1 vs base c8 or zo6 , there is literally not one video on internet with these two cars
I’d be very impressed with an AMG version but only if it has the V8.

The beauty of a Mercedes e class coupe is the absence of B pillar. This one has it😢.
I am so confused. If this car is replacing e classes mentioned, shouldn’t we be comparing it to 5 series instead of 4 series?
The outgoing e class coupe has one of the best interiors of any car ive seen, this feels like.. a step backwards
I loved the previous gen E coupe but considering the time we life in, the new CLE exceeded my expectations!

Finally good informative presentation without silly attempts to make opinion influence in advance, what is good what not, artificial imaginated fights for low rang watchers.
My dad works at the production line at Mercedes and saw this car as a prototype, but when he explained to me what it looks like i was confused if he meant cla, c coupe or e coupe. Now I know why…
This ist the new c class, not e class replacement. The look, the size, the interior, the bodylines, everything is c class.
Kinda sad that it will be a money printer when they price it like an e class.
When I saw it i was surprised, i was waiting for that car and I didnt expect it to look this good. I dont know why a lot of people hate on this design, its one of the best MB designs in a while

Will there be a 5 door version of the CLE?
Audi A5
The best of both designs, undoubtedly prettier than its predecessors
They are just doing exactly what they already did back in the 2000s with a Mercedes CLK that’s pretty cool
Back in 1997 you mean.
By 2002 they had moved to a pillar less coupe.
This looks like a facelift of the current/outgoing 205 C-class coupe. At the very least they could have made it B-pillarless like previous generations of E-class and CLK-class coupes.
Same boring design, soulless and dull. They basically made a C coupé and randomly named it CLE with a higher price tag than a C would have had, I guess. But the actual reason for this is the fact that SUVs are leading the sales now, so offering a broader range of choice within the coupé segment has been deemed pointless by mercedes.
I disagree, not only because BMW is making exceptional coupes and they are selling well. But especially because the sexiest cars on the market have almost always been in the coupé shape and now I feel like this style is ready for a big comeback.
But overall, despite personal feelings, it is important for a premium brand like Mercedes to offer good-looking, enticing and well-thought cars in each and every segment. "The best or nothing" (?)
The Audi A5 is still the leading example in its segment. Even though the model has been around for many years now and basically retained the same design, it looks really good. Would take it over this "CLE" without a shadow of doubt.
This car looks great you literally can never please car enthusiasts no matter what you do 😂
We're having issues with the car industry for a quite while in terms of segmentisation of the cars. A C Cabriolet is basically a D segment cabriolet, and an E Cabriolet should be an E segment cabriolet. 8 Series Convertible also counts as E segment cabriolet, but the difference between the sizes of these two E segment cabriolets are non-sense. I agree, size doesn't affect the segmentisation on its own, but considering these brands are trying to serve to similar types of customers, Mercedes seems to be failing on those segments, especially after discontinuing S Coupe and S Cabriolet. As a Merc user, even I sometimes struggle with the cars they're making, and I do think reviewers are also misleading the customers, this shouldn't be compared / considered a replacement for an E class.
How comes the new E class has the old style interior
It’s a shame that Mercedes is turning its back on the premium hatchback class, because the A-Class is a great example of the breed and is loved by countless Mercedes fans being one of the best selling models.
It's a best selling model because it's the cheapest way for people to have the mercedes logo in front of a digital display (for showing off on social media)... Hatchbacks are shite man
@@NickTheCasualGuy Premium hatchback cars are quite practical and enjoyable to drive. They’re popular for a reason.
The A-class offers a blend of luxury, advanced technology features, and good performance.
Different people have different preferences, and that’s what makes the world interesting.
@@FlipDeRiviera Ok so we 're going to pretend like you 're not getting the same performance (or better imo) and the same practicality and experience as with a golf for example? People will choose the A over so many cheaper options because of the status. Similar to apple products.

The biggest problem I have with the new MB models is the integration of TikTok. It's well-published to be a cybersecurity risk and I wouldn't want it built into my car. Unless it can be uninstalled, it's a deal breaker for me with any new MB's which is a shame since I've owned 4 😞
What about the fact there is not anymore B-Pilar less that allowed an even more slick look and open rear windows?
This is the product of a night of passion and Bang Bang between a C class coupé and a CLA
