@Thou Swell Jefferson was always better than steve. Steve wasn't bad but seemed to much to marcy's male counterpart while jefferson seemed like one of the guys. We all know a Jefferson good looking but in the end a loser.

Men Peg was to hot for words
A couple of years back, they did something similar here and raised the overall excise on cheaper liqueur (beer, anise drinks, vodka, etc.)
The ironic thing is that now more expensive (hard) liqueur is cheaper, which has contributed to a good few violent fights and brawls induced by it.
That is exactly why many tax policies are idiotic - they are created by ignorant people and are bourne by the people who least need them.

It triggered a lot of things in my brain, and countless examples I could give to amplify your point. But most of all, it takes me back to my very first lesson about government that my great uncle, who passed away back in 2007, once gave me.
He was an elected official, a county tax collector for 24 years. Keep that title in mind. He told me flat out, that whenever you see a bond measure on a ballot, or any measure looking to pass a tax on anything for anything -- doesn't matter what they say they it is going for; clean air, parks, infrastructure, etc...
Always vote against it because it is nothing but a great big money laundering scam. The problem is not a lack of funds as a result of lack of revenue, it's all the spending, fraud and embezzlement.
So as people laugh when Al is saying "no" to everything Marcy is supporting, Al was actually doing the right thing in saying no to all of it. And although his opposition to the beer tax in this episode was purely for selfish reasons, so what? He was still correct.
Even Marcy demonstrated the hypocrisy of the folks behind such things saying 'at least they aren't taxing my wine.'
