      I cannot speak for this person; however, I do agree with their statements about these things being arbitrary and am interested in fleshing out this topic so... My definition of arbitrary in usage is 'existing only by definition and axiom'. This expands to further things such as mathematics; however, we're more concerned with things like money and government.
      Money is inherently arbitrary, it's worth is defined and the 'worth' of labors and products is axiomatically defined by those with power over the labor and product. This is one of the my favorite arguments for free healthcare- asking "why should the lives and health of individuals be based on competing companies fighting over an arbitrary concept like money?"
      As for government, we can also see it being arbitrary like this- we define a set of people who create axioms or rules that we abide by with punishments defined within. Even judgements from the courts are largely an axiomatic exercise 'if the facts within the case fall within the conditions of this axiom, it is thusly applied. Else...' We can see within this administration the exploitation of how arbitrarily we define government. Congress requests a subpoena, the President ignores it and the underlying axiom, and then what? Well, we go to this other set of axioms relating to impeachment. But the enforcement is based upon Republican Senators applying the axioms properly which... Come on. So, if they don't, then what? Vote them out? Sure, but again, this is also an axiom. Trump has been floating a 3rd term- is a vote going to be sacred for him? Depends how far he wants to question our axioms, how far he feels he can justifiable go for his base. It's existence and enforement only exist by mutual consent.
      Sorry for the long block, but the arbitrary accepted upon existence of these things and it's real world consequences are interesting to question.

They don’t realize a simple truth...the billionaires that fund the think tanks that push this ideology don’t actually want to live in a full libertarian society...they don’t care about the individual freedoms of everyday Americans. They want their taxes cut, they want their industries deregulated and they want the publicly funded programs that they personally don’t need, to go away. I absolutely love how he admits his point of view is basically the exact opposite of "Progressive"; there is a word for that buddy, it's called "Regressive." Which is exactly what libertarianism is, regressive. Name me a society or group of people that acted in a decentralized way and contributed anything of major value to human progress and scientific advancement. That doesn't mean some smaller less centralized tribal societies have less value as people, but it should be plainly clear that their lack of advancement is due to decentralization. Centralized states are co-operative. Decentralized states always regress into competition and violence. This is why "Tribal" societies often war with each other; it's the inevitable outcome of decentralization. We would see the United States regress into a a collective of inter warring tribal societies based on regional differences, policy and law disagreements etc. The irrationality of the liberation world view is on par with flat earthers.

    • @mikejohnson555
      @mikejohnson555 3 года назад +2

      @@burgerking220 "works" is pretty relative too. I personally wouldn't say Libertarianism worked in small villages either, it existed, but I wouldn't call it ideal. Think what life was actually like in tribal societies throughout history.
      I'll give a short hypothetical example of how it often plays out even in the most co-operative unified tribe. In this example lets say a wealthy son from your village(town, region, area of control) gets incredibly drunk and rapes a woman in a nearby village. In your tribe(company, group, collective) you agree this is wrong, but debate how he should be punished. In the other village they decide that the punishment should be torture and beheading. To save the man your town protests but in vain, no other option is left, a war party is sent to retrieve the man by force. If successful surly the other village will want vengeance if any of their men are killed in the process. Causing a cycle of tribal warfare.
      In that example it shows how disunity always devolves into tribal infighting, and eventually violence. When there is no agreement on regional laws, or power structures there will be constant disagreement and strife. The strongest in wealth or weapons can bully the others. From trade disputes, to crime and punishment. Of course that all doesn't address either the weakness of libertarian society in self defense. As a large unified centralized country/empire can just come in and easily demolish a collective of disorganized tribal societies.

However, what is this world you envisioned actually going to look like when we get down to "brass tax"? The logical conclusion to Libertarianism is flcorporate fascism. It is feudalism. It is constant microwars for fiefdom territory. It is what the Amsrican revolution was supposed to reject. Aside from mediocre white boi atheists who are into Libertarianism, the only real "academics" in that field of thought were pre reformationist Catholics. Meaning? Again, feudalism. EDIT: trading the tyranny of the state for the tyranny of a privatized market is not liberty. My man says the more left you go the more authoritarian the state gets but he fails to recognize -- and I can only assume he's literally too stupid to Google this -- that communism is fundamentally a classless, stateless, moneyless society. He says he's anti-state but also says he's pro-private property, yet he fails to recognize the distinction between private property (the factories he owns) and personal property (his collection of Ayn Rand novels). If the left is increasingly authoritarian and the right is increasingly libertarian, how does he explain liberals being radicalized into communists and conservatives being radicalized into fascists? Seems like a big oversight.
