Hi all, I just wanted to address one popular talking point that some viewers may be surprised or upset that I omitted; that is, the reported unusually high euthanasia rate at PETA-owned animal shelters. The reason that I didn’t touch on this is that I wasn’t able to find any sources discussing that claim that aren’t severely biased in some way. The site PetaKillsAnimals, the most prolific mouthpiece against this practice, was created by a meat-industry-funded interest group, while the main defenders of this practice are… Well, PETA. As a non-journalist I don’t have the resources to definitively confirm whether this practice is as a result of an extremist anti-pet stance (as the opponents claim) or whether it’s because they mostly take in animals that no-kill shelters are unable to care for (as PETA and defenders claim). Therefore, I chose to not factor this talking point into my assessment of PETA as an organization.
As a not a journalist myself, I should point to the fact that PETA were once successfully sued for kidnapping someone's dog and put them down, and were at least known to do it at such a high rate by the state of Virginia, where their not profit status is held. Let alone the fact that they lied about things like sheep shearing, a process that actually HELPS the animals, and the milk industry and milk causing autism, which it doesn't.
@@daniexists6 Can vouch for that, they got in big trouble because the family caught it on camera. Like... They use biscuits to get the Chihuahua go towards them and snatched them from there*. It's horrible. The fact that these workers even thought to do that to a dog that obviously had a home was disgusting. I wouldn't be surprised if they did it before, but were never caught. I despise this group with all my being. *Edit: I went back to double check my memory and it is worse. The dog still went back to the porch after eating the biscuits and the workers got fed up and entered the property to snatch them from there.
I've seen some awful undercover footage of sheep shearing and that footage wasn't even from PETA. And the dairy industry is one ogäf the most cruel things I've EVER witnessed. Baby calves being taken away from their mothers so that they can't drink the milk that is meant for them. Instead the milk goes to humans. I once visited a dairy farm and the mother cow's were crying still after many weeks of their babies being taken away from them. They won't be reunited again. The babies are put into small crates and fed formula. The male calves are send to have their throat slit and made into veal. And the female calves are raised to be milk machines just like their mom.
Sorry about the spelling errors I made, I don't know how to edit the text anymore. But why are we even drinking the milk of a cow? It is so unnatural. It is just as unnatural as drinking horse's milk. Cows produce milk for the same reason humans do: for their babies. So that their babies can grow into adult cows. When I tell you that the dairy industry is one of the most cruel and inhumane things to ever exist please believe me. Or better yet go and look up videos of it. Here is an example video: DAIRY IS SCARY! The industry explained in 5 minutes
@@CarlosontubeYou seem really susceptible to bias that its kinda sad. Shearing a sheep does not harm the sheep if the person shearing them knows what they're doing, nobody purposefully hurts a sheep while shearing it because that can greatly effect the animal and therefore the wool you gain from it. Ask any sheep farmer this and they'll tell you that harming a sheep is the last thing anybody wants to do if they want to keep their business and animals. You're also anthropromorphizing these animals way too much, cows literally do not have the same level of sapience and emotional complexity that humans have, they're not crying because their precious babies are being taken away from them, that's just absurd and is applying an overly emotional response to something that realistically does not have it, kinda like what PETA's entire campaign is based on. Did you know that cow calves will actually end up hurting their mothers' udders if they're not weaned off their milk after a certain amount of time, which can cause infections? Thirdly, you do realize that people can be against industries like the dairy industry and still consume these products locally, right? Its not a black and white issue, its extremely nuanced and you're really just ignoring that here. If you hate these industries so much, then support local farmers who put a great deal into caring for their animals because making sure the animal is happy and has its needs ensures that its milk or eggs or wool is as top quality as possible. In your other comment you say its 'unnatural' for humans to drink the milk of cows, and that it's just as unnatural as say drinking horse milk; which is an _extremely_ amero-centric view to be honest. In a lot of cultures its perfectly normal to drink horse milk, or donkey milk, and even sheep and camel milk. In a lot of cultures milk is one of the most important parts of a person's diet, with cows being sacred for the fact they produce milk. Are those cultures wrong because of the overly westernized fee-fees of people like you or PETA? That's the thing a lot of these animal rights groups tend to have in common, the fact that they're either borderline xenophobic, or outright racist. And if you're gonna just throw out random videos as proof, at least don't choose the ones with the most biased sounding titles.
God the "Got Autism?" one is so funny, saying that as a high needs autistic fellow, just something about it. Ah damn all those bowls of cereal I had as a kid, that's why loud noises make me have a meltdown and some textures make me wanna keel over
Yep, theres enough people striking fear into the hearts of non autistics about us or making it out like autism is the worst thing that could happen to you
Yeah, it is so disgusting. As if someone like me existing is horrific enough to use it as a scare piece. I swear neurotypicals can't even comprehend just how gross that feels
@@Hyzentley Exactly! It would be like saying drinking milk turns your child gay or something. It's offensive, inaccurate, and only fosters more bigotry. As an autistic woman, I hate the implication that having an autistic child is a "curse" or "blight" upon your family. If anything, it's a blessing. In fact, I specifically want autistic children instead of allistic children, as I'd be able to relate to them more and continue the cycle of good parenting that my mother gave to me.
at the ripe age of 7 i loved the chick game and one day decided to select the "adult" version, my mom had to sleep with me that night and the chicken factory images haunt me to this day
@@MarielWhalley i must say i kept on playing it, between not understanding english and overall confusion about what the video had to do with the game, i was not going to stop playing chicken sisters, i simply had to play it all - but i sure never clicked on the non-kid friendly version ever again
But those images are real, that's the point. Animals are actually being tortured for consumption. Why is it too shocking to see but not too shocking to buy and eat?
the end? you get the link after beating the tutorial! pikachu’s goal in the first one was to spread the thing around like it was 👯♀️☕️💩 (censored as emojis for reasons)
@@Gafafsg It's just shocking videos, often gory or disturbing, for example these games will likely feature graphic videos of animals being tortured and slaughtered.
Associating tofu with veganism/vegetarianism only also erases how tofu is a staple food in a lot of non American cultures. Not everyone who eats tofu is vegetarian!
This perpetuated so heavily in this and with a lot of cartoons: I thought tofu was this hippie, white meat alternative made for and by vegetarians until I was like 12 or 13
i understand where you're coming from, but i'd like to challenge your perspective. tofu is a staple BECAUSE of vegetarianism (or, more specifically, east asian buddhism) - we're not sure if it was created with the intent of being a meat substitute, but its prominence is due to its use as an important protein in the vegetarian diets of east asian buddhists. it's not really possible to uncouple tofu from vegetarianism, at least historically speaking. not everyone who eats tofu is vegetarian, but they eat tofu because of vegetarianism. when these games were made, the options for mock meat were few and far between. they were expensive and difficult to even find, even more so than now - if you didn't have morningstar bacon or boca burgers at your local walmart, you had to special order these things from a catalog. and admittedly, even today, mock meats still have a lot of the shortcomings of their animal-based inspirations (i'd personally like to see more data on how veg diets fare now vs. when mock meats and other veg junk food weren't as prominent). simultaneously, there was this whole 'thing' around eating tofu here in the US. the only time i ever heard about tofu growing up was in the context of how gross it was - often at the expense of vegetarians or with a healthy dose of racism. so a lot of veg messaging at the time - not just from PETA - focused on promoting tofu as a delicious, affordable, and easily-accessible source of plant-based protein. i don't see how that could possibly be a bad thing unless you want to throw the baby (veg diets/activism broadly) out with the bathwater (PETA).
@@sadlittlestrayI mean, just because it's heavily used and often associated with vegetarianism because of Buddhism doesn't mean it hasn't been used by omnivores as well. You're lumping in too many groups. There are many many reasons to eat tofu in the past, not just religious.
I really need to rant abt the Pokémon Parody bc the fact they made Ash evil in the first game is so dumb considering in the anime some of his Pokémon were literally abandoned/abused by their former owners. Ash genuinely loves his pokemon and it pisses me off they demonized him here ( I’m pretty passionate abt Pokémon esp the anime )
And another fact people miss: pokémon follow trainers and batte because THEY WANT TO (at least in most Pokémon media)!!! Abusing pokémon (capture and battling without the pokémon's consent; cruel experiments; etc) is often reserved to villains and villains only! Of course there's the Masterball, but even that can be discussed, since pokémon can escape after the capture ant it's more a game mechanic than anything. Also, pokémon tend to be way smarter, aware and communicative than real life animals. They simply aren't comparable in most situations... (I'm also pretty passionate about Pokémon, sorry about the rant, ops)
Aside from traumatizing me as a kid and making me terrified of playing/watching anything related to Pokemon Black And White, the most ironic thing about all this is the "I Support Team Plasma" sign Team Plasma is meant to be a direct jab at groups like PETA, who cause more harm and abuse to animals than help them and only really say they care about animals for good PR or become extremists who do terrible things to animals under the guise of it being the "right thing" Right during the early game you actually witness a Plasma Grunt cornering a baby pokemon, Munna, holding it down and kicking it repeatedly to make it spit up dream mist until an adult Musharna uses illusions to scare them away The only one who genuinely cares about pokemon in Team Plasma is N and his kindness/desire to take care of and help pokemon is exploited by Ghetsis (much like PETA/similar groups exploit the kindness of animal lovers) In B2W2 they fully throw out the pokemon welfare image and openly do things like experiment on the legendary dragon Kyurem and force it to merge with Reshiram/Zekrom PETA completely missing the entire point of Team Plasma being a direct jab at groups like them and their practices, and then proudly backing them having clearly not looked into the games beyond a surface level, is always hilarious to me
(For context for those who don't know: Pokemon games have a mechanic called Friendship, which increases over time and after winning battles, among other things. Some Pokemon need high enough friendship to evolve. Friendship can range from -0 to 120- Edit: it's 0 to 255.) Also, in B2W2, Ghetsis has a Hydreigon that knows Frustration, aka the move that does more damage based on how low a Pokemon's friendship is, and his Hydreigon does the highest amount of damage with Frustration (i.e., its Friendship is at 0). So, the group they're praising has a leader with a Pokemon who hates him, and is exploiting that fact to make it a more efficient fighter. Stunning analysis, PETA
There were also true believers amongst the team plasma grunts, they appear in driftveil city in B2W2 wearing the old knight uniforms. But most of them were as cynical and two-faced as Ghetsis, I'm replaying Black rn and most of the the grunts' pre- and post-battle dialogues clearly show they don't believe the Pokémon liberation thing one bit
I used to work in a meat factory (not a slaugher house) and it was traumatising. I am now a vegetarian but I would never show pictures or videos of what I saw to anyone , especially a child, to convince them. YES meat industry is violent, beyond a doubt. YES alternatives should be available. NO you don't "educate" people by force and digust.
Yes! Abuse and violence and racism is not education, I really respect you for it, vegan, vegetarian and meat eaters all hate PETA, the only people who likes them is middle age aunt who thinks it’s soooo revolutionary 🙄
as a 14 year old who wrote a full school essay about factory farming when i was younger, yes. do not show pictures or footage of that to children. it does mess up their mind.
So, the silly European that I am, I've never even heard about KFC until kiddie me played that Peta Mario spinoff. Because of them I thought that KFC stood for "kill free chickens" well into teenhood lmao.
Mama has sass, remember when Office Create canonized a bootleg called Science Papa in character as her, saying she dated that game's mascot in the past and he had a small dick and no work ethic?
As a non English speaker native kid these games were the worst thing to ever find. I didn’t even knew how to explain to my parents why I wanted to sleep with them and cry LMAO
I remember the Cooking Mama game having a loud ass scream at the beginning of it, and no joke that traumatized the hell out of 8-year-old me who was simply looking for some cooking flash games to play on his nephew's computer 😞
as a pokemon fan, black and blue pisses me off to no end. canonically, pokemon battles are less like dog fighting and more like a sparring match between friends- its as a form of play and theres nothing stopping them from just not battling. wild pokemon can break out of any pokeball they want, and they battle to see if youre worthy of their protection and companionship. and fun fact! there are some characters who actually mistreat their pokemon, and theyre always villains!! what the hell do they think the evil teams are???? pokemon itself is incredibly anti-cruelty!!!
Pokémon has always been pro-environmentalism and living alongside nature, not opposed to nature. But knowing this would require one to actually sit down and analyze a Pokémon game, which I know most people don't want to do. But also, it reminds me a lot of the people who claim the Iditarod is an animal abuse sport, because it tells me those people have literally never interacted with a Husky before lmao.
This exactly! The Pokémon franchise is all about befriending Pokémon and treating them well! Multiple Pokémon can only be evolved with high friendship, and the attack Return gets stronger the more your Pokémon likes you. The game seems to push you towards making your Pokémon like you as much as possible.
Exactly! Just about the only time Pokémon fight when they don’t want to is when here being forced to or they’re genuinely terrified and resorting to the behavior of a scared animal: fighting til they can’t anymore
I became vegetarian back in 2008 when I was around 10 or 11, mostly because my older sister had and I looked up to her but also partially because I grew up on a farm and my uncle telling me the name of the cow we were eating at dinner was offputting. I played the cooking mama peta game SO MUCH, I found it so so funny cause at age 10 I had plucked birds and prepped them and been to the abertoire a bunch of times and everything they said in it was just so outlandish and untrue compared to my lived experiances. Plus I didnt have cooking mama on my ds so it was the next best thing. There is a lot to crit the farming industry on (and even more to crit the dairy industry on) but it always struck me as weird that they never brought up the abuse of people working farm jobs and the fact that a lot of bad practices are needed because of set price rates from supermarkets causing farmers to lose money if they don't do unethical practices in a way they cant afford not to do if they dont want to lose their homes or jobs. Even as a kid it was kind of jarring in a (to me at that age) hilarious way to see them make just bad arguments while missing a lot of what I thought was the point of animal rights activism. I'm still vegetarian today, but I'd never condemn people for eating meat. And I actively encourage buying real leather, especially secondhand just because it's so much better for the environment. Anyway long ramble lol, wonderful video Li it was a real blast from the past 👏
This is honestly such an interesting point of view. Kind of a no-brainer that ethics go out the window to save on money, but i had no idea farmers were often put in a corner like that. Thanks for sharing!
Bro I grew up on a farm too and once had a sorta pet bull named Hershey and one day my dad sent him to the butcher and my kid self obviously had a crying breakdown over that. In an attempt to soothe my sadness over this, my Oma asked me "doesn't Hershey taste good?" while we were eating hamburgers after that, but that just made it worse. She was right though those burgers DID taste pretty good... Didn't make me vegan, I still eat meat, but now I just wish to also be eaten when I die. If I had it my way I would be turned into a burger or pot roast because honestly it would be flattering to have my unused body be able to provide substance im such a delicious and appealing way. ...I promise I'm not messed in the head. I just see no other moral way to justify using the bodies of other to substain my own without offering my own body upon death to provide substance for those still living.

When i got into animal crossing during the pandemic, i came across a PETA article explaining how to play animal crossong 'ethically.' It was literally just "dont do anything except harvest crops and talk to your islanders". No catching bugs, no fishing, no cooking/eating, like okay its totally fine to just not play the game, as opposed to paying $60 to do none of the things that need to be done in-game to advance...
I remember seeing a RUclips short talk about this and one of my most popular comments ever was imagining how outraged they would be if they realize you can cook in the game due to the 2.0 update
I remember a RUclipsr talking about this and i dont understand why Peta has to rant and complain over A GAME?! There is no violence in the game… its just literally a calming game with catching bugs and fishing fish WHERE YOU CAN LITERALLY SET THEM FREE AND RELEASE THEM…. whats the point of playing animal crossing new horizons when you cannot catch bugs or fish… for blather’s museum or learning more about these creatures I dont understand Peta and i deeply apologize for getting upset, i just dont understand why they complain over animal crossing (as a ACNH gamer)
I remember having a dream where PETA was protesting at the museum . Isabelle founds out ,she gets pissed and calls in DOOM guy to rip them apart Of course because I was the only human villager I got to see every part of it and one of the protesters just shitted his pants and said “fuck this hit I’m out “ Then we ate apple The end
I once saw a video of one of PETA's protests, and it was literally softcore porn. A barely clothed woman tied up to a table moaning. That was their "protest".
Peta would do anything but help animals -.-“. Encourage veganism by traumatizing kids, misinforming ppl, and murdering cats and dogs from shelters. I worry that their activism had the opposite effect, with people being far more against veganism or vegetarianism than they otherwise would be. I think the games would be better with honest info and less shock content. It’s important to care about animal rights!
THEY MURDER CATS AND DOGS FROM SHELTERS!?!? THEY’RE ANIMAL RIGHTS ACTIVISTS IF THEY BELIEVE THE ANIMALS SHOULD’NT BE IN THE SHELTERS THEY SHOULD RELEASE THEM INTO THE WILD OR SOMETHING
Peta opened their minds so wide, their brains fell out of their ears. They cared about animals rights so much, human rights look a back seat (specifically referring to their offensive/traumatizing ads here)
I remember first time I heard about how bad peta was from people talking about the controversy with these games so at least they were good for something. The fact that a lot of these violent gross out games seem to target children as a demographic is very icky to me
One time PETA or something came to my college, I was eating lunch and some young people came up to me and said I would get $1 for watching a short video. I was sat in a booth with headphones, no context given. The video was uncensored footage of a pig being beaten to death in I guess a slaughter house. I took my dollar and was pretty pissed. Not much makes me feel sicker than animal cruelty. I was conflicted. I was mad at them for ruining my day, but maybe that was the point? But ultimately I just felt mad at them for showing me that with no warning, no explanation (that I remember) and I just felt like it was propaganda. I know animals can face abuse in slaughter houses, they are generally bad places where flesh is commodified and profit maximized, but like...not every slaughter house has THAT going on all the time...Where even was that? Like, okay, I was already on board for trying to be vegan to save carbon emissions and reduce suffering, but I'm not ready to fully change my lifestyle as I already struggle to feed myself. I don't feel like they're actually converting anyone. It didn't change anything I already thought.
Jsyk, that is genuinely how every pig farm treats them. That footage is a dime a dozen. There's history of pigs being beaten, dragged, teeth pulled out, tails cut off, everything you can think of. A pig was recently raped on film by the son of the farm's owner. I hate PETA, I almost think it was made to make veganism look bad lol. But they weren't wrong. Please go vegan.
So not all slaughterhouses abuse the animals, does that mean you're researching where each and every piece of meat you consume comes from? Or are you ignoring the realty so you can continue to eat meat? I know the videos of slaughterhouses are hard to look at, but they exist because of people who buy and eat meat from grocery stores. Not watching the video doesn't make the abuse go away.
@@Dollparade321 I believe their problem was more with being shown a gory video with no warning rather than how "real" the contents of it were my dude, along with how it just makes people turn away from PETA's cause
Speaking from experience, nobody needs to be scared into going vegan or making more ethical choices. Yes, animal cruelty is vile, but we don’t need to show it in detail to prove that. There are so many reasons to advocate for veganism beyond animal cruelty: environmental impact, trauma to slaughterhouse workers, etc and PETA is utterly dense to go about it from one terribly executed angle
But a lot of people don't know about the cruelty and won't research it on their own. Lots of people don't even believe that it's happening, and confronting it is sometimes the only way to understand what impact our choices are having. The videos did personally convince me to go vegan many years ago and nothing else would have otherwise. I just couldn't live with myself if I contributed to their suffering.
@@Dollparade321 true, the videos can be convincing, but for some people (kids especially) they can be traumatizing and even create an averse reaction. If they are for kids, PETA’s games should emphasize the positives of being vegan, not wallow in the horror
My introduction to cooking mama was this flash game and honestly I only learned it was a parody only a few years ago. You can imagine my surprise when I referred to cooking mama with people and we were not talking about the same thing lol
I remember as a kid seeing some gameplay of the actual Cooking Mama and at some point stumbled upon the gameplay of the PETA parody. I didn't know at that time that it wasn't made by the actual Cooking Mama devs so for a long time I thought that Cooking Mama was one of those "cutesy game that had a dark secret" type of game.
I played Fur Fighters!!! That game was released a few months before 9/11, but on THE FIRST LEVEL you knock over the “World Quack Centre”. Thanks for pulling that out of my memory box!
Also on the subject of fur fighters, I heard the name and immediately thought “wait.. is.. is it a foo fighters reference? Why? How? What does that have to do with anything?” Tbh tho the idea of a game about animals uniting to make a band and just singing goofy parodies of foo fighters songs sounds awesome.
to add one more mark to "PETA loves interpreting games literally for clout", meat boy actually isn't made of meat, he's just a dude that doesn't have skin, hence why his gf is made out of bandages
Tho even if "Meat Boy" was a literal sentient piece of meat, I think seeing him a different species would've been more correct than a something that was cut from animal and somehow came to life 😅
I can confirm the Chick Sisters secret video is a clip of slaughterhouse footage you're supposed to watch only about 15 seconds of before you can continue. However, i can also confirm from my own exoerience of playing those games as a child, many reuploads of that game also had broken video playback and i only saw that footage as an adult
my experience with the cooking mama game was literally "huh, this is a weird scary version of cooking mama that i can play on the computer! why is it talking about slaughter houses let me get back to the game"
I just find it ironic that they were trying to demonise the Tanooki suit when the Chick Sisters put on an outfit themselves. Like, if Mario just skins Tanooki did their characters just skin the sea kittens or whatever to get those power ups? They really can't decide on their messaging and fall far too much into pure shock value.
One day my sister and I randomly received PETA comics in the mail. If I recall they were each called something like “A Rat’s Life”, and there were elephant and chicken ones too…they went into detail with cute little drawings of lab rats being tested on and elephants being prodded, all while pushing for kids to pursue a vegan diet. I was excited for two reasons - one for having mail actually addressed to me as a child, and two who doesn’t love free comics? Our mom had no idea how they got ahold of our info or why they were sent to us, but figured they were harmless educational material. Unfortunately, being the overly empathetic little boy that I was, I wound up sobbing and feeling so terrible about the poor mistreated animals - I was depressed for days, it flipped my understanding of the world upside down. I still get a sinking feeling whenever I see the PETA logo. 😂
@@deltasaves It must’ve been late 2000s-early 2010s. Upon further research, you can actually still find some of these comics online, and they’ve even created teaching materials/worksheets surrounding them 🥲 Search “A Rat’s Life” if you want to see

You should've brought up how stupid Ash's dialogue in PB&B is. It's when he talks about how he never let Pikachu out of his Pokeball--even though one of the most iconic things about Ash's Pikachu is that he's never inside one!
At my college a presumably PETA-affiliated spokesperson set up a table next to the other tables for sororities and clubs and stuff. She went up to people that were passing by and told them she'd give them a dollar to watch a video. Me being a poor college student, of course I went for it. I think it was a compilation of different animals in slaughterhouses or something? I don't really react all that much to gore most of the time, so it didn't shock or haunt me or anything- rather, it was quite funny to see her face when I started talking about how, yes, the meat industry is incredibly damaging to animals and the environment, but we also can't ignore the significant ecological damage done by farms producing stuff like soy, almonds, and other ingredients for meat-replacements. Got the dollar, went on my merry way.
I played the adult version of New Super Chick Sisters when I was young and while it did genuinely make me go vegetarian for a while. The issue was because it was 2009 and I was 11 and stupid I knew nothing about how to replace the vitamins and stuff that I was losing by no longer eating meat so I ended up super iron deficient.
the cooking mama one made me cry so bad my mom didn’t want me playing any games on the computer for weeks. but fuck you peta, cooking mama games will never stop being a comfort for me no matter how much you try to villainize her!
I saw that game as a kid, and you know what it made me?? HUNGRY! I never once thought it was a commentary on meat, or trying to make me vegan, i thought "this looks satisfying, this seems fun, haha what a fun game" and just thought the vegan part was just another recipe It obviously didnt work for me either, but in like the opposite way lol
The issue with Peta and other similar associations is not what they stand for, its how they deliver the message. They do it the least effective form possible, shock and fearmongering. At this point im not even convinced they do it for ethical reasons.
I guess it was a different can of worms for Nintendo as PETA is still an organization with nationwide influence and they didn't want to engage in any squabble which would not be of any benefit. As a big company, they don't underestimate the potential of nuisance of their vile and demagogic guerilla tactics. It is disappointing, I know, because it shows they are strong against the weak but weak against the strong...
My guess is mostly due to the legal battle they would have to go through just to sue PETA. Unlike the fan-games PETA is an organization that most likely has the funds to drag a lawsuit not to extent as say like Disney but i assume they could put a fight against Nintendo.
@@e1iteyoshi998 It's actually because PETA labels them as Parody and as PETA is an American based organization, Parody is protected under the law. So Nintendo trying to sue them would be useless.
I remember playing thr cooking mama game as a kid, and i genuinely thought that was just cooking mama, no parody. When i saw actual cooking mama gameplay years later i was more than a little confused.
Oh boy! As someone who lives in the Caribbean, I had to deal with a lot of things being region locked, which obviously upset me as a kid. This is probably the one instance where I'm glad for it because I was curious about the links in their Cooking Mama parody but I couldn't see them due to region locking.
Agree on the tofu point; as a non-vegan who nevertheless has tried a lot of quite tasty plant-based foods over the years, I'm baffled why extreme animal rights activists like PETA or That Vegan Teacher always promote more "boring" meatless options for food, when I know for a FACT that there's a lot of delicious vegan options out there. No fried eggplant? No curries? No almond or oat milk? No vegan jelly beans? No desserts, PERIOD? You don't have to promote only vegan junk food, but come on, try to make the lifestyle look at least a little exciting.
Tofu is not boring. Theres like hundreds of years worth of delicious tofu recipes out there especially from East Asian countries. I’m not vegan but I do make plant based recipes often. Tofu is so useful.
@@solarmoth4628 I get what you're saying, it's just more a question of why they just show a plain block of tofu instead of all the interesting dishes you can make with it. I'm not motivated to eat meat just from seeing a raw steak, I'd think the same would apply to a tofu block.
i think the perfectly reasonable practice and philosophy of veganism is just the skin these culturally conservative christian hippie types are using esp with PETA, lot of boomers and gen x that view veganism as atonement for the moral transgress of meat eating so it being bland and unenjoyable is part of the desired outcome. same genre of ppl treat exercise as atonement for eating, the really viscous fatphobia folds in as well, 'punishment' for the sins of excess. OH ALSO i remember a few years back at toronto pride peta had a float handing out flyers that had a 💕cute interracial gay couple✨ cooking happily on the front and a bunch of pig gore inside. like, how is that not mocking everything the parade is about oh it had me steamed. like so many gays are already vegan lmao its just so strange and cruel to do, who was that even for? doesn't seem effective way to pressure the agricultural industry to dismantle or reform. the main call to action is personally absolving yourself by not eating meat, which is the christian thing again.
Hate to be that person but the character portrayed on the "pett" activists' signs is not Yoshi. Yoshi is some weird Dino lizard and not a turtle like the Koopa Troopa's shown on the signs. They're small enemies usually so Mario does regularly kill them in the games :P
Everyone is bringing up their childhood memories with chick sisters but personally, the one I remember being obsessed with is cooking mama... I don't even know why, it's super short so I was just doing the same level over and over
Same, I used to frequent Friv and I remember it being on there. You had to mouse over one specific game/couple of games to access some of the more "adult" games, if I remember correctly.
I am thankful that you choose to dunk on PETA rather then vegans as a whole. Vegans are not the problem, neither is veganism in general, the problem is solely on PETA and they are NOT a reflection of veganism. You're approch is so mature compared to other youtubers, and I'm greatful for that!
It's genuinely so hard to research the sketchy stuff that I've heard PETA has done (or really research anything or consume any media that has to do with PETA) because most of the stuff I've seen likes to attack veganism and animal rights in general and goes about it in a really mean spirited way rather than trying to actually educate people about what PETA has done wrong. I still haven't figured out if all the stuff I've heard about PETA is true or if some is made up or if there are some things I haven't heard about yet because researching it is so triggering and bad for my mental health. It's also hard to tell what people are actually against PETA due to actually bad stuff they have done or are just against them because they promote veganism. I wish more people could separate the two.
@VictorianFr0g there's a book about vegabism by Bob Torres "Making a killing: thr political economy of animal rights" that has a section about peta specificaly. you can check you library for it!
when i was little, i desperately wanted to play nintendo games but didnt have a console. i played cooking mama kills animals and pokemon black and blue/red white and blue a lot. speaking from experience; it was far too easy for children to find these games and be subject to horrible imagery they didnt ask for! but thats just the nature of that era i think. the peta games were definitely not the only thing i found on the internet that shouldnt have been marketed for children
I remember going to the circus for the first and last time at age 7, and PETA was there protesting. They handed me a small colouring book that involved messed up animal abuse cartoon imagery, I didn’t really get to look at it though because my mom took it away immediately. And yes I’m embarrassed my family took me to a circus but we never went again bc they realized how inhumane circuses are in general.
I was a kid who didn't speak English, but seeing this video I realized that I wouldn't have gotten the message even if I knew English. The only trauma I had was with the cooking mama one, I didn't play the original game because of it thinking it is the same game.
I didn't watch up to that part of the video when i first saw this comment so i straight up thought PETA made a homestuck parody and was confused on why there wasn't a timestamp for it in the description lol
I added the timestamp for it so nobody gets confused, also how on earth would PETA make Homestuck a vegan parody? From what I could guess they would make people like Tavros and Nepeta Evil people that hurt animals……
They remind me of Happy Tree Friends.... A cartoon I enjoyed simply cause, YEAHHH GORY!! EDGY!!! FUN!!!! So I can imagine kids playing these for the same exact reason. Definitely not getting any message out of these
I'd like to point out that the reason the music is quite so good in the parody games is because it's just a *few* notes away from being songs from the game it's parody-ing.
I actually remember playing a few of these games! The video inclusions may have given me a touch of ✨trauma✨, but the actual message didn’t click with me at all. I was too young to quite process that meat processing plants are actually common and used in real life, so I just thought these were horror games like the slaughterhouse-themed Halloween haunt at my local theme park. Also fair to mention that the Cooking Mama parody didn’t really turn me away from eating meat… If anything, I was just thinking “good thing the turkeys come packaged at the store, preparing one looks gross.”
DUDE i played a pokemon parody where a bear like eats the main player or something as a kid (mom showed it to me innocently believing it was a normal game), lots of blood, it freaked me out!
I did a propaganda paper in a high school law class on PETA and their use of games to indoctrinate children. I did additional research into some local groups, which lead me to learning more about eco-t*rrorism. Was very insightful to learn about the organization and their deep seated issues.
This reminds me that I heard that the recent movie adaptation of the book "How to Blow Up a Pipeline" is pretty good. A great movie that addresses the issues surrounding eco-terrorism and it's intersection with faith and the oil industry is First Reformed. Can't recommend that movie enough but it's heavy.
@@deltasaves Ohhhh I don't think I'd recommend First Reformed for a plane trip lol. It's not what I would call "entertainment" in the traditional sense? It's a beautiful and dark movie that makes you think and feel things. :D
Props for the music and gameplay, at least. PETA's harm is not just gory images or tone-deaf games, they lack nuance when it comes to dealing with animals in general. As you hinted at the start, faux fur is plastic and will not rot like actual hide will. Then there is the famous 'woolsweater' picture about something beneficial for sheep (shearing.) And they love to call Iditarot (Sled Dog competition) abusive because they are 'forcing' the sled dogs to run in the cold, ignoring that sled dogs aren't cold and enjoy pulling. In effect, PETA ignores even situations that would be helpful for the animals/nature. Not giving any guides to deal with animals properly outside never interacting with them.
I was a weirdly morbid kid, I never liked PETA and still don't but I had an absolute BLAST playing Super Chick Sisters and Cooking Mama: Mama Kills Animals just because of the dark humor as opposed to the actual messages they were trying to push. Out of all the games I ever played from them, the one that sat really wrong with me was the Olson Twins dressup game, essentially the way they made them look. Both those girls have admitted they look so sickly for multiple health reasons, one of which being an eating disorder. Unsuprising PETA wouldnt care though. Suprisingly I never played the pokemon ones..hm.
While i may not be able to support you financially on other platforms, please know I will wait to watch anything you put out if it means you put your health and wellbeing first. Your videos are very well done and valuable work and it is worth it to wait, so do not feel bad for taking the time you need for yourself.
I remember playing the peta pokemon game as a tween, cause I looooooved pokemon games. I was mainly confused, thought the bloody designs were cool and edgy, slightly disturbed and then disappointed by the crappy ending. I didn't even know what veganism or peta was then and continued to not know after playing it 😂
29:23 currently heavy in my the binding of isaac hyperfixation and hearing edmund mcmillen snapped me into reality SO fast. i forgot about super tofu boy
I was absolutely not expecting a "fur fighters" appearance in this video. That alongside the stellar apparitions of Tommy Tallarico have made my entire week!
Blaming the people who have to work instead of the Owner class people who dictate their work is always how it goes. Particularly when the workers are BIPOC or women. Bonus points if it’s a BIPOC woman.
The "pokemon makes kids mean to animals!" Thing is craaazyyy because if anything my love for pokemon is why i love animals so much. Thags right funny yellow rat taught me to treat animals with kindness and respect and that theyre just as smart as me. I mean i already kbew that but kids can be rough woth animals. Ironically Nintendogs was the flop because when i was learning to walk the dog i had no clue how to get her to not do something that she shouldnt be doing and tried doing like, a light shake of the leash to get her attention bc thats what you do in the game. Well you tug on the leash in the game but i was like "no❤" and went shake.
I remember how I stumbled upon a playthrough of this 'cooking mama peta game' when I was a kid, and at the time I didn’t know about the original cooking mama game, so for a very long time (like to my teenage years when I started questioning it) I thought that this bloody version of a game was the original, lol
18:24 "Lesser-known"? If I'm not mistaken, Super Tanooki Skin 2D was easily the most famous PETA flash game back in the day (to the point where I found out about it WAY before I even learnt what PETA was). Everyone I knew at school had played it, and it was widely covered on RUclips. Also, mind you, I'm Portuguese, a non English-speaking country where PETA doesn't even exist. In fact, the only other games featured in this video that I knew of back in the day were Super Chick Sisters (which I played a lot of) and Pokémon Black and Blue.
Idk if it's because of the hat, title, or both. But I honestly thought this was an Izzyzz...'z video at first, and was confused when I saw "Li Speaks" (or, Li Zpeakz)
I appreciate you being respectful and to focus on these bizzare games. I’ve gotten several people to eat less meat by just talking about my love of plant based food and just not being a butt head. I also do not show anyone horrible footage of animals being abused. I show how beautiful and cute animals and nature and it’s effective.
i loved cooking mama as a kid. i had it on my ds and would play it all the time. then, i played the peta flash game. i didn’t take anything about the message in, it just made me terrified to touch anything cooking mama related until i was much older.
I came across the cooking mama parody when I was a kid and really thought it was an original cooking mama flash game, of course, I was creeped out. Now I understand where it all comes from.
I never played any of those games because I have a burning haterid for PETA but one time I remember at lunch time in the computer rooms a bunch of guys were watching the one kid play the Pokemon: Black and Blue flash game and we were mostly making fun of it in it's absurdity. Thankfully I don't think we saw any of the shock videos that came after that though. 24:52 Also the fast food nation game is based on the 80s PC game Burgar Time.
My first PETA game was Mama Kills Animals. At the time I wasn't familiar with Cooking Mama, so I just found it to be a bloody, messy cooking game. So after playing the game, I found out what Cooking Mama was, and fell in love with those games. Good job PETA, you successfully marketed Cooking Mama to me! :)
When I was in elementary school I found the pokemon one- and was met at the end of the game by a video of a pig being slaughtered still haunts me to this day lmao
I’m from South America and I watched the Cooking Mama parody… I didn’t understand English in that time so the only thing that I understand it’s was the murder of that turkey…I wasn't able to watch anything about cooking mama for at least two months without feeling traumatized, thank PETA :^)
The cooking mama game genuinely traumatized me so bad as a kid, like to the point it gave me an irrational fear of the cooking mama franchise to this day. One of my staple disturbing childhood memories is watching a play through of the game because of how horrifying it was lmao
WOAH 8 minutes ago I was diving through your channel with the flash games videos and now I suddenly stumble on this one your videos have been keeping me in a good mood while I'm really sick and feeling overall Bad so thank you for that :D
(Not-so) fun fact: Rue McClanahan (I think that’s how you spell it (the woman who played Blanche in Golden Girls)) was one of the first celebrity supporters of PETA. Then again, she supported them when they were an actual credible organization, so she gets a pass.
A lot of celebrities who genuinely seem to care about animal rights are publicly allied with PETA. I think it speaks to how out of touch most famous people are
Sometimes I (and also a lot of people, understandably) forget there was a point when peta *didnt* suck, that there was a point where one could even describe them as, yknow, *credible*
I mean, as a kid who was OBSESSED with Creepypasta, PETA was just feeding my insatiable need for all things creepy and mildly gorey. I was so messed up, man. 😂
i really appreciate how you talk about flash games in a legit review format and are so focused on aspects of game design and the user experience that isnt really applied to this style of game. its unique and one of things that i love most abt ur stuff 💕 (that and the wadanohara music lol)
Ah damn all those bowls of cereal I had as a kid, that's why loud noises make me have a meltdown and some textures make me wanna keel over
Yep, theres enough people striking fear into the hearts of non autistics about us or making it out like autism is the worst thing that could happen to you
Yeah yeah, if i didnt like milk and eggs so much, i wouldnt have to go home early in every event to not scream, makes so mich sense
Yeah, it is so disgusting. As if someone like me existing is horrific enough to use it as a scare piece. I swear neurotypicals can't even comprehend just how gross that feels
Screw you PETA! I'm drinking MORE milk NOW!

Associating tofu with veganism/vegetarianism only also erases how tofu is a staple food in a lot of non American cultures. Not everyone who eats tofu is vegetarian!
Facts! There’s something so…. wrong about it in a way I can’t put into words
@sadlittlestray I was about to make a comment saying this lol. Yours is very well put and better than mine would have been.
Ash genuinely loves his pokemon and it pisses me off they demonized him here
( I’m pretty passionate abt Pokémon esp the anime )
They love to demonize the friendly character
yeah, and guess what, pikachu doesn't stay in a pokeball in the pokemon anime, because he doesn't like being in a pokeball!
The fact nintendo doesn't do anything with PETA games yet strike down other fan games
Plus, isn’t Ash canonically 10 years old?? Weird how Peta chose to demonize a literal child character who has a passion for animals..
Aside from traumatizing me as a kid and making me terrified of playing/watching anything related to Pokemon Black And White, the most ironic thing about all this is the "I Support Team Plasma" sign
Team Plasma is meant to be a direct jab at groups like PETA, who cause more harm and abuse to animals than help them and only really say they care about animals for good PR or become extremists who do terrible things to animals under the guise of it being the "right thing"
Right during the early game you actually witness a Plasma Grunt cornering a baby pokemon, Munna, holding it down and kicking it repeatedly to make it spit up dream mist until an adult Musharna uses illusions to scare them away
The only one who genuinely cares about pokemon in Team Plasma is N and his kindness/desire to take care of and help pokemon is exploited by Ghetsis (much like PETA/similar groups exploit the kindness of animal lovers)
In B2W2 they fully throw out the pokemon welfare image and openly do things like experiment on the legendary dragon Kyurem and force it to merge with Reshiram/Zekrom
PETA completely missing the entire point of Team Plasma being a direct jab at groups like them and their practices, and then proudly backing them having clearly not looked into the games beyond a surface level, is always hilarious to me
Team plasma also uses pokemon to fight
Also them simultaneously trying to portray plasma as good but also have ghetsis be evil doesn’t work like omg 😭 like bro that’s contradictory
(For context for those who don't know: Pokemon games have a mechanic called Friendship, which increases over time and after winning battles, among other things. Some Pokemon need high enough friendship to evolve. Friendship can range from -0 to 120- Edit: it's 0 to 255.)
Also, in B2W2, Ghetsis has a Hydreigon that knows Frustration, aka the move that does more damage based on how low a Pokemon's friendship is, and his Hydreigon does the highest amount of damage with Frustration (i.e., its Friendship is at 0). So, the group they're praising has a leader with a Pokemon who hates him, and is exploiting that fact to make it a more efficient fighter.
Stunning analysis, PETA
also iirc they beat up Munna for the dream stuff
NO you don't "educate" people by force and digust.

as a pokemon fan, black and blue pisses me off to no end. canonically, pokemon battles are less like dog fighting and more like a sparring match between friends- its as a form of play and theres nothing stopping them from just not battling. wild pokemon can break out of any pokeball they want, and they battle to see if youre worthy of their protection and companionship. and fun fact! there are some characters who actually mistreat their pokemon, and theyre always villains!! what the hell do they think the evil teams are???? pokemon itself is incredibly anti-cruelty!!!
Tell that to the trainers in the forest that I try to go by
Exactly! Just about the only time Pokémon fight when they don’t want to is when here being forced to or they’re genuinely terrified and resorting to the behavior of a scared animal: fighting til they can’t anymore
Couldn't agree more, PETA totally missed the point!

every time I find out a new form of peta advertisement I learn about an entirely new way to mess up advertisement.

Yeah, only millenials and more senior generations who have seen Baywatch during its prime can really understand the "Pamela Anderson" reference. She was a renowned playmate then, but not exactly an icon who transcended time like Marilyn Monroe did.

There is no violence in the game… its just literally a calming game with catching bugs and fishing fish WHERE YOU CAN LITERALLY SET THEM FREE AND RELEASE THEM…. whats the point of playing animal crossing new horizons when you cannot catch bugs or fish… for blather’s museum or learning more about these creatures
I dont understand Peta and i deeply apologize for getting upset, i just dont understand why they complain over animal crossing (as a ACNH gamer)
I remember having a dream where PETA was protesting at the museum . Isabelle founds out ,she gets pissed and calls in DOOM guy to rip them apart
Of course because I was the only human villager I got to see every part of it and one of the protesters just shitted his pants and said “fuck this hit I’m out “
Then we ate apple

@alexv536 love this 😭
I love it too thanks so much!

I once saw a video of one of PETA's protests, and it was literally softcore porn.
A barely clothed woman tied up to a table moaning.
That was their "protest".
Are you saying that because PETA sucks or because it makes you feel good about paying for animal abuse? Genuinely asking.
They should be renamed as
People
Euthanasia
Terrorized
Animals and kids
It absolutely has the opposite of their intended effect on people
Peta opened their minds so wide, their brains fell out of their ears. They cared about animals rights so much, human rights look a back seat (specifically referring to their offensive/traumatizing ads here)
They also have this weird thing about sheep getting sheared. But like, sheep can die if they aren't sheared. It's horrible.
I entirely believe the conspiracy theory that PETA was created to discredit animal rights organizations and encourage harming animals
It didn't change anything I already thought.
that's genuinely messed up, sorry you had to go through that. also definitely a messed up and wrong approach of these people to try and "educate"
should have demanded more money

Omg me too 😭
I remember as a kid seeing some gameplay of the actual Cooking Mama and at some point stumbled upon the gameplay of the PETA parody.
I didn't know at that time that it wasn't made by the actual Cooking Mama devs so for a long time I thought that Cooking Mama was one of those "cutesy game that had a dark secret" type of game.
...tbh, i vaguely remember that being the case for me too....
I played Fur Fighters!!! That game was released a few months before 9/11, but on THE FIRST LEVEL you knock over the “World Quack Centre”. Thanks for pulling that out of my memory box!
that’s super eerie actually like which dev is psychic and why didn’t they warn us lol
I remember Cr1tikal's let's play of it lol
I just find it ironic that they were trying to demonise the Tanooki suit when the Chick Sisters put on an outfit themselves. Like, if Mario just skins Tanooki did their characters just skin the sea kittens or whatever to get those power ups? They really can't decide on their messaging and fall far too much into pure shock value.
The Chick Sisters could have gotten a cool species swap, why they didn't do that?
I'd be interested in what years that was?

I forgot how aggressive mama looked in her game, i remember staring into her angry eyes and then unplugging the computer after i was too unsettled
the cooking mama one made me cry so bad my mom didn’t want me playing any games on the computer for weeks. but fuck you peta, cooking mama games will never stop being a comfort for me no matter how much you try to villainize her!
I saw that game as a kid, and you know what it made me?? HUNGRY! I never once thought it was a commentary on meat, or trying to make me vegan, i thought "this looks satisfying, this seems fun, haha what a fun game" and just thought the vegan part was just another recipe
It obviously didnt work for me either, but in like the opposite way lol
@@pemanilnoobyea same, I was way to young to get the point of the game 😭😭
I wonder how peta will make a digimon parody considering one of the main digimon wears it's evolved form's pelt.
The issue with Peta and other similar associations is not what they stand for, its how they deliver the message. They do it the least effective form possible, shock and fearmongering. At this point im not even convinced they do it for ethical reasons.
How hypocritical PETA is also the fact that nintendo didn't slap them with a cease and desist like they do with other fan games is weird

You don't have to promote only vegan junk food, but come on, try to make the lifestyle look at least a little exciting.
tofu can be good, you just gotta season it right.

Hate to be that person but the character portrayed on the "pett" activists' signs is not Yoshi. Yoshi is some weird Dino lizard and not a turtle like the Koopa Troopa's shown on the signs.
They're small enemies usually so Mario does regularly kill them in the games :P

the tanuki skin game is so funny because PETA staged the the "tanukis are skinned alive" video and then based a whole video game off of it
I am thankful that you choose to dunk on PETA rather then vegans as a whole.
You should go vegan out of spite of PETA and be a good example of how veganism is about the animals and not looking like a good person :)

Unsuprising PETA wouldnt care though.

i loved cooking mama as a kid. i had it on my ds and would play it all the time. then, i played the peta flash game. i didn’t take anything about the message in, it just made me terrified to touch anything cooking mama related until i was much older.
I came across the cooking mama parody when I was a kid and really thought it was an original cooking mama flash game, of course, I was creeped out. Now I understand where it all comes from.
The dancing montage was perfect I was grooving right alongside you 😂
I never played any of those games because I have a burning haterid for PETA but one time I remember at lunch time in the computer rooms a bunch of guys were watching the one kid play the Pokemon: Black and Blue flash game and we were mostly making fun of it in it's absurdity.
The cooking mama game just confused me as a kid and then made me scared of gravy, I didn’t eat gravy for years
When I was in elementary school I found the pokemon one- and was met at the end of the game by a video of a pig being slaughtered
still haunts me to this day lmao
I’m from South America and I watched the Cooking Mama parody… I didn’t understand English in that time so the only thing that I understand it’s was the murder of that turkey…I wasn't able to watch anything about cooking mama for at least two months without feeling traumatized, thank PETA :^)
The cooking mama game genuinely traumatized me so bad as a kid, like to the point it gave me an irrational fear of the cooking mama franchise to this day. One of my staple disturbing childhood memories is watching a play through of the game because of how horrifying it was lmao
WOAH 8 minutes ago
I was diving through your channel with the flash games videos and now I suddenly stumble on this one
your videos have been keeping me in a good mood while I'm really sick and feeling overall Bad so thank you for that :D
@@PhilFromhec What was the time where PETA was credible, I am curious?
I mean, as a kid who was OBSESSED with Creepypasta, PETA was just feeding my insatiable need for all things creepy and mildly gorey.
I was so messed up, man. 😂
i really appreciate how you talk about flash games in a legit review format and are so focused on aspects of game design and the user experience that isnt really applied to this style of game. its unique and one of things that i love most abt ur stuff 💕 (that and the wadanohara music lol)
