  • The Harley Davidson Roadster is a big, mean, torque machine. But, is it a good starter motorcycle for new riders? Here is my humble opinion.

    Hey great work... agree with your opinions.. I love the sportster roadster so much that I chose it over the Ducati monster 821 - sure the Ducati is faster and the stock exhaust sounds awesome but riding the roadster made me smile just as much and it is equally flickable. Oh by the way on harley Bahrain website the sportster 48 is quoted as making 70.6 ft lbof torque vs 76 ft lb on the roadster! That along with the double discs, inverrted forks makes it the best sportster for me.

    I just bought mine 2 weeks ago. I'm 5'6ft and it's just the perfect bike for me. I would ride it all day. I will have to change the seat in the future though. Wife's complaining that her butt hurts... ;)

    I have a 1200 s 1999 it has over 100,000 it's a good bike but I really don't like it in the rain because the back tire wants to spin and fish tail when I take off. And my leg get really hot from the moter needs some chaps. And the free way it really doesn't have the power I want. It rides a little ruf I'm going

    I just enjoyed your evaluation of the Roadstsr. I believe you did very well and were believably informative with good advice for all who are unfamiliar with that model. As far as the singing goes, if you must do it (hey, you are happy riding the roadster!), please keep it short. As far as I am concerned, keep all music very short because I want to hear what you are saying with the Harley Davidson sound in the background. I hope the other Harley Davidson bloggers read this too.
    Keep up the good work as long as you're motivated. I will now reach for the subscribe button. Have fun riding.
    I must schedule a test ride...

    Great vid! However, I disagree that it’s a good beginner bike. Can you grow into the bike? Probably yes, but since its a heavy bike most beginners will get nervous when making a tight turn. You know, when new riders instinctively place their foot down when they think their bike will “fall over.” Probably my only disagreement.
    (Fellow Roadster owner too!)

    Hello Sir! I would like to ask you: As a 5'6 30 year old male who's new to motorcycling, could I learn on a HD Roadster? Due to my height, would that be a huge issue? Also, would you recommend that I install frame sliders, and if possible, could it be lowered to accomodate my shorter height? I really want it as that's seems to be the ideal starter bike with the power that it's not too much despite the torque along with it being a soulful, old-school (relatively speaking compared to a modern sportbike) machine. The other bike Im considering to get is the Ducati monster 797 which is much lighter and seems like a better beginner bike, though the concern with that power along with the lighter weight that it might be even more powerful than the roadster is that it could cost more in insurance (IDK). Great channel!

      Traumatix685 I appreciate It! At your height I think you would be tiptoeing... but you'd be fine. I believe the monster is taller than the Roadster.
      definitely get protection of some kind if it's your first bike. Unfortunately, the odds are very high that you will drop it a few times.
      If you don't mind the weight it should be good for you.

      Traumatix685 get a Sportster Low or Superlow. I am 5'6" with a low and have extra room flat footed.

    • @nlerias1
      @nlerias1 7 лет назад +1

      Hey. I'm 32 years old, 5'4" and just got my first bike, a Harley 48, about two weeks ago. This is very similar to the Roadster. It's PERFECT for me and I'm loving it. I just barely flat foot it so you would be completely fine on it. As for the power, it's torquey without being overly so to the point of being dangerous. The Roadster is a bit taller I think but it would probably be fine for you, or you can consider the 48 like me. The one difference about the roadster vs the 48 is that the 48 has been around for a while so you can get a used one which is typically advised for your first bike.

      +Erick de viking whatever dude see you on the road someday that is if you even go farther than just around the block I have 3 harley's and cruise them cross country I have a commercial drivers license drive a truck for a living and when I'm not all over on a truck I'm out on a bike and anyone who has put serious miles knows about the Murphy law of if it could go wrong it usally will at worst times possible hope you ride cause that's all that matters don't wish bad luck on no one but actually ride yours before you talk bout the real riders out there

    • @TheNostorian
      @TheNostorian 7 лет назад +2

      Spin it all you like. If you are not willing to maintain a bike. Anything will fall apart. I ride 2500 km per month so i do go my fair share of km's on the road. But even if i only used my bike to start it ride around the block and park it. That has nothing to do with a bike breaking all over the place at once. If you inspect your bike from time to time you could notice wear and tear and replace parts as needed. And it's a motorcycle. It does not take much work. Atleast i enjoy it and don't see it that way.

    Why is it considered a beginners motorcycle? It has a hefty motor and the weight is upwards 500 pounds... Its not the big rig touring bike but its not its cousins 883 nor the small 750.

    • @Revvinthe417
      @Revvinthe417  7 лет назад +3

      I wouldn't consider it a beginners bike. I am just saying that if a beginner wanted one, it wouldn't be the worst bike they could choose. It is easy to ride and control, and the power isn't immediate enough for concern.

    • @Revvinthe417

    A motovlogger that doesn't treat their audience like invalids? I'm honestly surprised most of them don't tell people to buy mopeds first just to be safe? I started on an 1100 sport touring and making mistakes on that made me a better rider and how to respect the bike. Nice video man.

      If you don't make mistakes early on you wont know how to deal with them later. That is why I don't like all of these small, light sport bikes having ABS and slipper clutches these days. You need to learn to brake and shift on your own!Thank you, thank you.

      No, just because a bike is made somewhere doesn't mean it is bad quality. You don't think that they constantly check on their over seas production? You don't think they implement the same standards when their name will be on the bike regardless of where it is made? Saying something is of lesser quality just because it is made somewhere other than where you live is a bad way of thinking.
      They have upgraded the suspension on this model so it takes bumps well. The rear is tall and the front is inverted. It is pretty stiff, but you wont bottom out on anything.

    • @warriorambrose
      @warriorambrose 7 лет назад

      Revvin the 417 i did ride sportster custom for a short spin.. but dont think that would be good enough for long twisty roads... plus i felt if any pot holes comes in between.. it changes its character like crazy.. i was thinking of getting a bike.. switching from a starter 250cc naked to a bigger bike.. and i would be doing touring.. whatever the roads are.. so is this a bike for my purpose.. because custom made me rule our harley

    • @Revvinthe417
      @Revvinthe417  7 лет назад

      If you want to do touring, you probably want a different bike.
      This one is for around town, backroads, and the curves. It is a real sport oriented sportster!
      It is comfortable, but not for long distances.

  • @saddle8bag
    @saddle8bag 7 лет назад +1

    Interesting. My initial thought was that it would be an awful beginner bike. I rode a Buell with a Sporty engine years ago and it had SO much low end power that hitting a bump could cause enough throttle play to make it take off like a rocket.
    Inline 4s are generally docile as a pussycat unless you intentionally get them up in the revs.
    Didn't realize Harley still used those super long travel throttles. IMO a good thing for those tractor engines as they rarely have to trailer tillers.

    • @Revvinthe417
      @Revvinthe417  7 лет назад +2

      Haha, yes, the Buells are ridiculous machines... along with any performance V Twin.
      One of my future mods is going to be getting some Buell lightning cylinder heads for my Roadster. This will make it just as insane as a Buell for very little money.
