This is my new favorite P&B. Nothing else like this Cockney Jazz Gangster Rap anywhere. Neck five of the Jacksons is he put away five drinks of Jackson, and he put them away smoothly (straight face when I backed them). But then it's also a Jackson Five reference. Bas was a professional musician and piano teacher before he started rapping. And hallmarks are used in UK to indicate real gold. (his watch is not only authentic, but also solid gold) Cockney rhyming slang "jam jar" = "car". Yeah, you got it. Silk Cut is an old brand of cigarette ("bringing the smoke in a silk cut suit") "VVS on my necklace shining" VVS is the second highest level of clarity in diamonds, only flawless is higher. Kitchen King is also a brand of pots and pans. Then the Dunkin Donuts scheme (Boston Cream donuts, and "dunking" is also dipping into the product you're selling, since he doesn't do this he's not a Dunkin Man) and Dough. Great reaction. You catch so much more than other reactors. I am glad to hear someone appreciating this master class in flows and complex bars.
Love these reacts. You take your time to break down each component and your history and knowledge comes through with integrity. Taking 30min to analyze a 2.5min track and not one minute wasted.
Did you notice the toast and jam double? Also, "whistle and flute" is cockney slang for suit, that's why he whistles after the bar about his suit. Levels AND levels.....
The chef's kiss is another double as carving someone up with a knife is also "chef'ing them up", so the kiss of the blade when he's dishing out what's due if someone isn't ordering off the menu.
On the subject of breath control, check out Bas' lungs on these.... 'Plugged-in with Fumez the Engineer' 'The Old Estate with M24' 'Golf ft Norman Pain' and their masterpiece 'Sindhu Sesh'. Oh, and don't forget to play their ultimate bangers as well as 'Longthorne Shotgun'... 'Browns' 'Mugshot Freestyle' 'Mr Worldwide' 'Stepped Into The Building' 'Quick 1-2' 'The Gentlemen' 'Bermondsey' Over 30 bangers! Seven years of brilliance! Masters 🐐 🐐
This was very educational for me, i learned a lot about the intricacies of hip hop and ryme structures, that i never thought about after 30 years of listening to hip hop. Its like watching those "vocal coach reacts" videos.
They also incorporate terza rima; interlocking rhyme patterns. Anadiplosis which you pointed out "slap the geezer" then "slapped with a sentence". Clever writing skills used in literature and don't forget Pete is an avid crossword solver. They have cryptic minds for sure!
Bas is a jazz musician (piano, arranger, songwriter, music teacher) and Pete was in a Ska band. They know musical structure and phrasing (i.e. jazz scanting which is what rap is based on). That's why they come up with so many flows. The album is going to be a smoker!
They are easily the most surprising musical anomaly I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see you go through their catalogue. And their other old geeze friends that rap as well. Norman pain and PKJ
Handsome Dexter and 91 Shots are Pete & Bas’ grandsons who produce the tracks and help P&B with contemporary slang in their lyrics. They also have their own tracks out. They each have their own “sting” in the intros. “Omlette Du Fromage” is Dex, “Nine. One.” is Nine
I love love love your P&B reactions. You take your time and break the music diwn. Definitely my favourite reactor You hsve to do Sindhu Sesh or Golf next
Hey Jared, I don't want to sound bossy but you got to get these Pete and Bas reactions out faster. I've been waiting days for your Pete and Bas reaction!
Great work. I love that you're humble in the things you're not sure of (and clearly go off & learn: respect 😎) - but when you're making your points it's in an equally humble way - you're a natural educator. Looking forward to more; ❤️ from 🇬🇧, but take your time. Your job is important too!
"If the toaster jams I'll jump out the jar and slap the geeza" The layers to it - primary meaning: "If my gun jams, I'm still gonna slap you"... but then there's "jam" (jelly over there) on toast scheme (ie jam jar). Very clever
Subbed! Great to see serious rap knowledge coming, respect 👍 You gotta remember Pete and Bas are British, we didn't get American donut ads, we didn't have dunkin donuts here. The culture is completely different here to the US. Good to see you getting familiar with the slang too, it's Cockney rhyming slang, london based but pretty much used all over UK now. You were right with jar, jam jar = car, boozer = pub (not bar, different thing) chin wag, nag, =talk, Harry Potter = shotter, (shotting is selling drugs in small bags) also Potter Payper = pied Piper, (British rapper they've had beef with) brick =kilo, food = gear = drugs. What's interesting is that cockney rhyming slang was almost like rapping back in the day, a code devised to be able to talk in front of coppers (police) without them knowing. It's adaptable and changes depending on your age, knowledge and era. The action man figure doll had a scar on his face too. Looking forward to your next reactions. Big love from England. 👍🏴🇬🇧
You're quickly becoming one of my favorite Pete and Bas reactors. They started rapping in 2017 and their skill level is unmatched. Speaking of lung level, you should check out The Old Estate ft. M24. Bas displays serious breath control.
I really appreciate that you do a thorough analysis of the songs in your reactions!! Keep it up!! And I appreciate that you acknowledge that whether or not they write their own lyrics, they had to have put in a lot of time, effort and practice to deliver the lines the way they do. And you also pointed out that some of their references are OLD AF!! Young writers wouldn't have even been exposed to them, which is why I'm convinced (with the addition of their local old school UK slang) that they AT LEAST have some input into the writing.
"produced by who?" The VO you heard was "omelette du fromage", a sample from the cartoon Dexter's Lab. If you hear that sample, the producer is Handsome Dexter. Keep it coming!
Yeah - The back to nina - I thought there just had to be a double with a nod to Nina Simone - just the whole vibe made me think of her as soon as i hear this bar - and after googling, just found there is an album dropped of her hits this year called "Back to Nina". You're welome!!!!😂😂😂
Well done young man, because of your appreciation of the "Old School not Old fool" you have a new SUB. The essence to all things is SIMPLICITY so here we go, Hotter fireworks from 🔥🐐Pete and Bas🐐🔥. Go check out Golf/Plugged in W.Fumez/Bermondsey/Shuffle/Top of the World/too many to mention. P.S Bas last {hidden} bar ="You know me call like Miss Davina"= Davina McCall is a English television presenter, Big Brother etc..
When I was a kid we had something called "poem analysis" in school... everyone hated it... And here we are. If the poem class was anything like yours, man we would have payed attention. Keep it up. u r ❤🔥
Great reaction loved the explanation of different rhyme schemes, also very impressed with your knowledge of our British slang. I'm was shocked that you picked up on the cockney rhyming slang with the "jar" short for "jam jar" which as you pointed out means car. 👍
after watching more, there is a rapper in the uk called Peter Potter and they sent a 'beef' short to him a week or so ago, try'na make some beef i belive : ) so yea, pay them for their product, but also, they gonna get Peter Potter :D
Church in tabernacle, thank you for bringing your insight to the masses. It's refreshing to find someone who actually knows what rat rap is so again.Thank you and keep doing your thing
The writers/producers are two younger guys who went to art school and then tried to create viral content. Their writing is excellent and shows deep hip hop knowledge. They started Pete and Bas out with slower, easier content but over the past 5 years or so P&B have learned to rap very well, technically superb and play the part brilliantly. I suspect they collaborate on the writing now, it does seem like a team effort.
Man, I relate so much with you, I been making hiphop since '97 Backpacking era, hitting the streets after midnight tagging doing throw ups, go to old empty factorys for some parties...making beats writing lyrics all day...good to see you really being a lyricism connaisseur...as a rapper this is both depressing and inspiring...and they expose the lack of skill in the game for decades now, but I have no more excuses to not bring my a-game. 👊😘✌️
an iron fist in a velvet glove - chilled and mellow sound with bars as hard AF!!!! Who knew we needed jazz rap!! pete and bas fans need to show up and get the album to make it Top of the Pops. Love your reactions - I am new to rap - I grew up with a wide range of music from the early 60s in the UK. But I love music from any genre - in the past early rap - the language and content didn't resonate. But I came across US country rap, then Ren, and more recently Pete and Bas. So your breakdowns are the best for informing me on the nuances. Chin wag is a natter - your chin wags up and down when you talk - this is old slang - don't hear young folks saying that - it was more common in the 60s when I was a little kid and used by my parents generation. Just an example that whilst they clearly get input on modern venacular, it must be true that they have input on the older slang. They are clearly intelligent - they have improved so much from their early stuff (as have their grandson producers) - though they hit the ground running from the start. So I think there is a clear collaberation. bas knows his music = played piano professionally and think some brass instruments and he has been linked to jazz as one style - but if you play on cruise ships you have to be versatile for style of music. bas probably has better lung function from his music background and you should see the control on the early on The Old Estate Thanks for the work you do and love your journey. Respect and love from the UK. Subbed from the start!
They are definitely involved in the writing. In the lines Bas has about the mile high club he references a ‘jumbo jet’ which is not a phrase young people use. Their raps are littered with old references and vernacular just mashed in with new slang.
6:43 - Another idiosyncrasy of Bas's is his emphasis on cologne and scents in general. Stepped Into The Building has a great section of wealth in all five senses bars, talking about "Agarwood Oud from Mozambique" and "in Casablanca smokin' Jacaranda".
I haven't heard that song yet but I will get to it soon. Now that you mention it i do remember several scent references from him I'm the prior songs I've heard. Love it. 👊

Been waiting for you on this one dude, and you don't disappoint 🙂 And take your time with these vids: when there's bars to be broken down, you gotta show them respect! Excellent 👌
I get the same feeling with Pete & Bas that i got the first time i heard Heltah Skelta. P&B are just much more lyrical but the back and forth is crazy.
Handsome Dexter, the producer, is Bas’ grandson. He also raps in a duo with Pete’s grandson who also produces for them under the name 91 shots. Check them out - nine and Dex - Ignorant Sh*t
They're dropping an album on the 22nd of this month :) I believe Handsome Dexter is one of their grandsons. I loved the song before I heard your break down and I appreciate it much more now, thank you!
Bringing that smoke with the silk cut suit (silk cut cigarette brand) while I’m puffin on a benson (benson and hedges, another cigarette brand). Potter Payper is a UK rapper.
Hackney is an area of northeast London, cockney is a phenomenon. You’re only a cockney if you’re born within earshot of the Bow Bells, i.e. the bells of St Mary le Bow in what is now the very financial centre of London, but all the streets are named for the medieval markets that used to be there before the insurance companies and the banks like Ironmongers Lane, Poultry, Cheapside (from ceapan, old English for trade), Cannon Street (from candles, corrupted over the years). Basically cockneys would live there and trade legally and illegally, and develop an internal slang language to communicate without letting on what they are scheming about. In more recent years, cockneys were pushed east, beyond the gates of the Roman walls into Whitechapel, Stepney and beyond. These days cockney is mostly the accent than birthright, including the rhyming slang, and with the complete wiping out of the terraced slum in Docklands during the Blitz, the cockney accent was further displaced, having had influence on the Essex accent as well.
Bas played the trumpet or trombone in the past, so he knows a thing or two about breath control, its impeccable!! nice react though bro' so keep it going...bam!!
Pete's opening verse in Sindhu Sesh is Wayne-like to me. He's spitting, but he's talking super deep in a way that goes over everybody's head. Without spoiling much, the whole scheme is a double, and everything he says is more related than you might catch at first.
Thank you for the breakdown. Just subscribed to see those Pete&Bas reactions. They're my favourite current artists alongside Ren and Harry Mack. If you like real hiphop freestyle, check out Harry Mack' Omegle Bars 42, 45, 52, 85 or whatever number comes up first.
Still loving the Pete and Bas reactions. I can’t wait to hear your take on Norman Pain’s Sindhu Sesh, when you eventually round that corner of the rabbit hole.
“If a goddamn toaster Jams I jump out the jar and I slap the geezer” toast/Jam/ Jar it’s all genius wordplay also….. You need to check out Nine and Dex they’re the producers behind Pete n Bas they have a few tracks out themselves and the beats and lyrics are silky smooth. They’re supposedly the grandkids of Pete and Bas
love Pete and Bas... can't wait! I haven't bought an album in years, waiting for their drop.. I stopped listen to hip hop a lot of new rappers don't have BARS pete and bas need to take them to school
Ok you're the reactor I've been waiting for. Actually knowledgeable and not over hyped reactions for attention. Love it
I appreciate that thank you 🙏👊
seconded
I went to see them live last night. They are amazing live, so much energy and swag. Bas was even crowd surfing!
haha, that's an awesome image. Cool you got to see them.
🔥
I'm surprised more react videos don't look up the live videos...they all wonder if they can do it for real...the videos are up!
So. Envious.
I've been wanting to arrange a tour so a bunch of us can come from the US to see them and some other rappers.
Brooo you are THE MAN! One of the best breakdown reaction i have ever seen, officially my favourite Pete and Bas reactor.
Thank you man I appreciate that. I'm glad you enjoyed it, cuz I enjoyed it too. 👊
Ditto me too. I feel this is the reactor I’ve been searching for. I like Flawd too
This is my new favorite P&B. Nothing else like this Cockney Jazz Gangster Rap anywhere.

I am sooooo excited for the album, man. Another great reaction, thanks for giving Pete & Bas their due.
I'm loving these guys
Potter Payper is a UK rapper they have beef with
He stole Pete's look ; bald head glasses and a goatee. (Pete's words not mine)
@@twylotwoPotter made a bad move

GOLF has the most insane bars I've ever heard from Bas, and that DRIP! 😮
Second this - Bas has insane flow on Golf, Old Estate and Plugged in with Fumez
This was very educational for me, i learned a lot about the intricacies of hip hop and ryme structures, that i never thought about after 30 years of listening to hip hop. Its like watching those "vocal coach reacts" videos.
Thank you I am very glad to hear that 🙏👊
They also incorporate terza rima; interlocking rhyme patterns. Anadiplosis which you pointed out "slap the geezer" then "slapped with a sentence". Clever writing skills used in literature and don't forget Pete is an avid crossword solver. They have cryptic minds for sure!
I subscribed just to see your unfolding exploration of Pete and Bas. I've been watching them for a year and I still haven't seen all their videos.
Bas is a jazz musician (piano, arranger, songwriter, music teacher) and Pete was in a Ska band. They know musical structure and phrasing (i.e. jazz scanting which is what rap is based on). That's why they come up with so many flows. The album is going to be a smoker!
Thank you for the info, I didn't know that.
They are easily the most surprising musical anomaly I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to see you go through their catalogue. And their other old geeze friends that rap as well. Norman pain and PKJ

Thank you 👊
I can’t wait to see you react to Longthorne Shotgun. That has to be one of my favorite tracks by Pete and Bas. They just do not miss.

Yea impossible to pick just one 😂
Been waiting for you on this one dude, and you don't disappoint 🙂
And take your time with these vids: when there's bars to be broken down, you gotta show them respect!
Excellent 👌
You were spot on: jam jar is old Cockney rhyming slang for car.
I get the same feeling with Pete & Bas that i got the first time i heard Heltah Skelta. P&B are just much more lyrical but the back and forth is crazy.
Word!
"You know me call like Miss Davina" Davina McCall is a UK TV presenter.
Basil got the flow baby!!😂
Yes!!! Love these reactions! Please do “General’s Corner Freestyle” some amazing flows and lyrics! Please please please
longthorne shotgun shows them writing the rhymes. watch that video next
You will love Longthorne Shotgun. It has a very mid to late 90s Hiphop sound (Wutang flavored beat).
Yeah, Pete and Bas are absolutely flownominal
New sub. I love your reactions, they're informative. Wishes from England, UK ❤
Your analysis is very detailed. Really good analysis vs a lot of the basic reactions out there.
I appreciate that, thank you. I try to bring something different to the table
There's a UK rapper called Potter Payper.
His reaction when he saw the album announcement was brilliant. Genuinely excited.
Speaking of Busta, their song Whirlybird from the album has got some incredible flows
My favorite is Golf ft Norman. It gives a backstory. I believe every word.
Love how you analyze every aspect of the song I was wondering if you’ve reviewed Longthorn shotgun so good keep it up
Bringing that smoke with the silk cut suit (silk cut cigarette brand) while I’m puffin on a benson (benson and hedges, another cigarette brand).
They are like Byron and Shakespeare of rap,top show btw🤜🏽✌🏽❤🎩
Love how you break down the bars ❤and recognize how talented they are
🎉🎉🎉🎉 glad you enjoy them like i do🎉🎉🎉
That microphone got me thinking of a cold Guinness
Bas played the trumpet or trombone in the past, so he knows a thing or two about breath control, its impeccable!! nice react though bro' so keep it going...bam!!
Thank you for the info, I didn't know that 👊
Fantastic video 👍
Pete's opening verse in Sindhu Sesh is Wayne-like to me. He's spitting, but he's talking super deep in a way that goes over everybody's head. Without spoiling much, the whole scheme is a double, and everything he says is more related than you might catch at first.
Yes I love them❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for the breakdown. Just subscribed to see those Pete&Bas reactions.
They're my favourite current artists alongside Ren and Harry Mack. If you like real hiphop freestyle, check out Harry Mack' Omegle Bars 42, 45, 52, 85 or whatever number comes up first.
Pete in Bas mugshot freestyle🔥🔥🔥
They rappin rappin because they rappers rappers. Gaf what they look like. This is hip hop
Absolutely
Brilliant analysis!
Bruh. All their joints are AMAZING, but you gotta react to GOLF.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Still loving the Pete and Bas reactions. I can’t wait to hear your take on Norman Pain’s Sindhu Sesh, when you eventually round that corner of the rabbit hole.
“If a goddamn toaster Jams I jump out the jar and I slap the geezer” toast/Jam/ Jar it’s all genius wordplay also…..
You need to check out Nine and Dex they’re the producers behind Pete n Bas they have a few tracks out themselves and the beats and lyrics are silky smooth. They’re supposedly the grandkids of Pete and Bas
I need Pete & Bas to make a diss track. 🙏
Who do you want them to drag? 🤣
Be weird their writers getting them in shit with others!
love Pete and Bas... can't wait! I haven't bought an album in years, waiting for their drop.. I stopped listen to hip hop a lot of new rappers don't have BARS pete and bas need to take them to school
Instant subscribe.👍
P and B know their Craft
I prefer viewing your Pete and Baz commentaries first before any other reactors to get an appreciation of the technical and lyrical qualities. Thanks.
Thank you I'm glad to hear that, appreciate it!
