Bas's family ran an underground bare knuckle boxing ring in the South of London. He started boxing competivley when he was 13 years old. He has always loved music. He earned a living playing piano on a cruise ship for a while. I believe he also used to play either the trumpet or the trombone, which would explain his impressive breath control.
When i found Pete & Bas i went down that rabbit hole then went down the reaction rabbit hole too. Your Tpain review was by far the best i viewed. I really appreciated the way you sort of dissected not only the lyrics but their cadence and rhyme scheme.
Bro, make sure you have a spare 4 hours, because once you go down the rabbit hole, you wont come back up for ages. They have such a diverse library it will blow your mind.
Glad to see another person jump on board. When you follow Pete & Bas you get to see the trajectory of their improvement. Every time you think they can't improve, they do. Shows to me they take it seriously. As for who writes their stuff, why look behind the curtain? Plenty of successful rappers with half their talent use ghost writers and haven't been near the business in years (if they ever were) and sell a million. I choose to just enjoy the ride. They always make me smile so I've no complaints - good tunes, top tier writing and performance, joy and rap. Winning combination. Good luck with your reactions my friend, off to a great start!
I think the age would mean it was easier to write. Idk why everyone assumes it’s not written by them. Only the recent slang makes sense to get help with n that was confirmed
@@jonanice Good point, well made. Personally I think it probably is them, with the freely admitted assistance on slang. But when it comes down to it, it's not important to me. If it's not their words I don't think it makes them any less real - that shouldn't be the important bit imo.
Ever since I have discovered Pete & Bas this year, I have been learning so much from all of the reaction videos, and yours are some of the best. I love your breakdowns and references. Thank you for the education!
You clearly dig the bar heavy songs, so I'd go for Sindhu Sesh next. Both of them going back to back, no hook, just dropping bar after bar, different rhyme patterns and flows, schemes, all that good shit
Crazy thing about Pete and Bas are that some of their less popular tracks are my favorite. I love “Browns”, “Bermondsey”, “Pint and a Fag, and “Generals Corner”.
@bcagz9835 totally agree, their EP barely gets any coverage and it's full of bangers. Browns, Bermondsey and Burning (the 3 B's) are all super underrated.
Word on the street is, they're south London gangsters for real. Pete's sleeves are apparently full of gang tats, and Bas from what I understand, has a rap sheet related to him being the promoter for an illegal underground bare knuckle boxing organization. Bas is also a life long musician, but in terms of hip hop, they've been at it since 2017
They look hard fer real, so I'm sure they are, even if some of the stories are a little embellished. Pete reminds me of my old hillbilly coal miner Papaw who had a little crew running moonshine back in the day.
Some of my faves: Quick 1-2, The Old Estate, Mr Worldwide, Longthorne Shotgun, Shuffle, Golf, Pint and a Fag... OMG there are too many. And every one is different, they can just slide into any beat with their amazing flow. I'm a super fan. I kinda wanna plan a European vacation around one of their tours and follow them like a groupie. ❤❤😂
Can't go wrong with any of them. But try Pete & Bas "Stepping Into The Building". They just came out with a T-Pain remix with T-Pain. It's sick. Just a warning once you go down the Pete & Bas rabbit hole, nobody can dig you out but your self.
Nice reaction sir. Subscribed ! You mentioned their outstanding delivery - Please check Longthorne Shotgun... The flow and the delivery and bars are out of this galaxy...
Plugged In with Fumez and Longthorne Shotgun are my favorites. Mr. Worldwide is a fun track. They seem to take the music seriously, but they don't take themselves too seriously. Some of their videos include things like playing soccer (badly) with their old dude friends while they're rapping about their international drug empire.
These gents are indeed true gangsters. Pete ran with the Richardson family, sworn South London enemies of the Kray twins from the East End. Bas and his Dad ran illegal bare knuckle boxing fights for betting. As they are still here spitting bars, I'd say they were the real deal, as the saying goes, "fear the old man in a young man's game." Check out Longthorne Shotgun next, it has more of a traditional 90s gangster rap sound and flow, I think you'll like it, I fkn love it.
All of this is completely made up and has been debunked so many times. Bas has been in the army, owned a law firm and worked as a piano teacher. Pete worked for the council and the Royal Mail. Not sure why people keep spreading this kind of misinformation. None of them have any kind of criminal history. Their bars and delivery is more than gangster enough, without having to make up some backstory.
WORD!! Thank you. I'm pushing 70 years old, and to me, there wasn't even a centilla of doubt that they weren't solid. You might say, " It takes one to know one ". Once you reach the level of enlightenment required to open your eyes wide enough to see and feel the energy and vibration of the truth, there's no questioning it when you experience that feeling again. Those two are the REAL MEAL DEAL!! TRUE GANSTA'S. There's no faking that! 🤔😏
Glad that you on board with Pete and Bas and get it. They are real east enders which has a long history with the gangs - especially rounf the 50s and 60s, which even the rest of the country knew about. Sir Robert Peel set up the first police force in the early 1800s - hence the nicknames for the police - bobbies, and peelers from his christian and surname. So a bit of a reference to "peel em" - as well as pigs Yeah - their voices are perfect together - and their Cockney accents are perfect too - even for the UK ears, it is hard (cornish and somerset wouldn't have the same ring) In the 60s the british film industry started to have more accents rather than received english - and Michael Caine was the crim with the cockney accent Check out the interview with Fumez the engineer - they were serious about doing rap properly - and as well as Bas's history as a boxer, set out below - he is a serious musician - piano and brass I think - played on cruise ships - and has some piano music on youtube, which is nice. Oh yeah - the hair - that has grown as part of his image - it used to be short! And the other thing to get, is that the British like a bit of humour in everything - and gangster humour is there - but grim!!! Love them - and you will find something to like in all their music - there is variety and always bars. Mr Worldwide, Quick1-2, Stepped into the building, The old estate (collab, but pete and bas shine as ever) Plugged in with Fumez I am new to rap - dipped the toe into the water 20 years back - but the subject matter too dark and repetitive. Haven't heard anything from Pete and Bas I thought was bad. Some of their best are: Quick 1-2, Plugged in with Fumez, Browns, Mr. Worldwide, and Stepped into the building.
Sindhu World put out Norman Pain's Sindhu Sesh not too long ago and omg...idk what they're putting in the Metamucil over in England that's making these old gents turn into lyrical beasts but that one just opens up your chest with every bar and rips out your heart. It's raw and just rips open any wounds you got. I definitely recommend checking that one out. Pete & Bas are amazing, but Norman Pain is a whole other monster that hits deep.
“Pennies for the pork is a lip sealed deal” is paying off the cope. Cops/pigs/pork. But if the guy “squeels”, which is another pigs/cops/snotch bar, he’ll put him in the ground. Hammer obviously is a gun cause guns got hammered that come down when you pull the trigger. Plus they say squeeze at the end. So you know.
@5:37 yes pete did, he was part of the Richardson apparently, and I guess bass did bare huckleberry boxing in his younger years, Pete met bass after walking into ( idk what type of store/building) and heard bass playing the piano and introduced himself ive heard, not 100% on if it's accurate or not but feel free to look it up yourself
You owe it to yourself to check out their song "T-Pain". Not only is the song itself a banger, but T-Pain himself responded, dropping a verse in a new remix that even has new bars by Pete & Bas as well.
The answer is yes. I have no idea how any duo in any arena can bring out banger after banger. The odd thing about the UK though is probably many people there will like the fact the world doesnt know them.

Pennies to the pork, pay the police off. Grab a bobby by the knobblies is grab a cop by the balls, bobble headed model gobbling on me wobblies is self explanatory when you can pick the words out. Supposedly, Pete worked for a crime family, and Bas had something to do with it an underground bare knuckles boxing Ring. There are several videos where they've done interviews.
There are a few genuinely great hiphop artists out of the UK. I think you’ll like Ocean Wisdom (that’s his birth name, believe it or not). He has a couple collabs with Method Man. Peckham is a place in South London with large Caribbean community.
Yardies is slang for Jamaican gangsters.
Yardbird is also slang for somebody in and out of prison :D
In the UK, Yardies, Yardmen or Yard man refers to Jamaican gangsters.
We don't use the term Yardbird
Another Caribbean .hahaha
Yardies are what we ( in the Caribbean 🇬🇧🇯🇲 community) refer to people from Jamaica. THEY. ARE. NOT. AUTOMATICALLY. GANGSTERS ‼️

Pennies to the pork. Pay off the cops.
Yup. Aka "pigs".
That's simple
"Pennies" here is basically typical British understatement... as it will cost quite a bit more than that, inn'it?
@@gnomadD_that is the point. they pay them off and it is just pennies to them.
