I just got a Generac 24kw Installed about 2 weeks ago. We had a power outage yesterday for a few hours, The Generator kicked in and did what it was designed to do. Very pleased with it.
At this point, I'm laughing my ass off. The guy across the street installed a 18Kw Generac system in April 24 - bragged about how wonderful it is..... Since April, Generac has returned 8 times and the system still won't run properly. They are fiddling with it again today and my neighbor looks like he's mad enough to bite the head off a snake. I'll save myself the $20K and get a portable gen (4000Kw) for $750 with a few cords ---Ka Ching!!!!!!!!!
And you'll be dragging out that unit during power outages. I tried that for a few years, got really old. Whole home generator kicks on automatically, even if you're not home.
I bought the same unit. It ran a total of 5 1/2 hrs then it had a catastrophic failure. Getting an authorized dealer to fix it has yielded no results thus far. I’ve contacted 3 different dealers and it’s still broken after 4 months. I’m considering selling the usable parts on eBay and going with a different brand.
@@teflondaprince I had power out for 4 days and it lasted. But it run off the natural gas line so it should be able to keep going you just have to check the oil.
If properly maintained, run the weekly exercise, etc, they are extremely reliable. I've had my whole-house Generac not start only once in the last 9 years.
@@manikdesilva1 some things to consider are asking questions to permitting on process to understand, calling the gas company to locate how to determine your meter size and seeing if meter need upgrading and the cost, interviewing your or knowing who you will have be your licensed electrician and licensed plumber. It’s always good to check to make sure you have carbon monoxide detectors in home and ask as many questions. All my electrical and gas are on one side of home. And I do have a pool and pool equipment. I did do consultations and had the plumbers and electricians come out before placement of pad that the generator will sit on top of.
Very informative. This is the lowest total I've seen so far. I've always figured that getting the work done in separate parts instead of a whole package would mean a difference of $1000s. How much was the cost of pouring the concrete pad? Or did u already have one?
That's not bad at all. For us, we didn't lose power during Harvey, during Beryl from 6am to 4:30 pm, so I've debated the whole home or not. Live at the edge of Houston and Pearland. In our particular spot, outages are so rare. Right now, I have the generator inlet to the whole panel and dual-fuel generator, so I used propane tanks.
@@jlscott3102 That was not bad. My areas was out for about 4 days. And it seem like every storm or rolling blackout my community is without power. I think I can do 1 day but several days just became a common thing.
I think you're confusing a whole house gen like this with a typical open-frame portable unit. There's no comparison. Besides, even if it is a portable, why would you care? You have power. Sounds like this is coming from someone who's never sat without power for nearly a week after a hurricane.
Nope, my neighbor has one which is located about 300 feet from my insulated house can be heard with all the windows closed. I can tell when the power goes out by the lawnmower like sound. First time I heard it, I thought they had forgotten to install a muffler. My neighbor and I took a look at it, there is muffler, I'd recommend hearing protection if your going to be within its proximity for any length of time. My smaller 4kW open portable genny isnt quite that loud, but honestly I don't really need it, can heat with wood, cook with gas (or grill) and have small battery system for internet/electronics. Might fire up the genny for long outage to charge and run freezer.
I did forget to Mention the Pad I have the generator on top of. The pad cost around $300.00🤑
Was a permit required?
@@carlwilson867 not for the pad.

@@mowcowbell Portable generators can auto start and use automatic transfer switches. No dragging out. They can run on natural gas too.
Wonder if the valves were ever adjusted 😂
Wow very informative. Thanks for the superb info. 👍🏼 👍🏼
I have 9500 watt Generator and installed a soft start on my A/C unit so I can run my whole 1959 SQ foot home in Humble TX
You gonna need it in Humble, I lived there for 20yrs. The lights would go out all the time.
Thanks for the detailed information! You definitely saved money compared to some of the quotes I’ve seen thrown out there.
Thanks for the info. Interesting.
Thank you for sharing. Great info.
Thank you!

What about the pad that the generator sits on or did you have a cement slab poured
How long does the backup last? What if power is out for a week etc?

O nevermind I see it
But will it turn on when you actually needed?! I have never seen a Honda failed and they get abused 24/7 on commercial sites

Thanks for the video. How did you decide on placement/ location of the unit ?

Wow, that's tough with this Houston heat. Whole-home definitely makes sense for y'all
Sorry for 1700 dollars
Don't do it, these things are noisy AF. Your neighbors will hate you.
LOL, they have to start first.🤪
they will love you, if you invite them over when power is out

I'm also one of those weridos who enjoys camping without being a portable house with me.. so take with a grain of salt.
