I’m saving up for one of these but there’s no immediate rush because I’m still working on my license. I was looking at the IC-7300 but this one is only about four or $500 more so I think I will go that route. And to you I say hello from Central Florida.
Stupid question. Can both of these radios do UHF and VHF? Also you said it can do Dstar, does that mean it can also do DMR? Sorry I’m totally new and just got my tech license and I want to get a really good radio that I can grow into and keep for years. I plan on getting my general soon as well. Thanks for the video it was great and informative.
Im pretty new to Ham, got my Tech several months ago....just passed my General two weeks ago. With that, I really like my Icom 2730a in the truck. So why is the 9700 so much, especially when compared to the Yaesu 991-a? Are there some advantages to the icom that Im missing?
Congratulations on getting your General. The 9700 is one of those radios that will be used on a desk top. Might be just a little to big for portable operations but it also being a SDR and a all mode radio adds to the price. Then you add the 23cm band creeps it up even further. Pretty sure the 991A is only HF and 6 meters. Where the 9700 is 2M, 70cm and 23cm bands. Not to compare brands or functions but any of the modern radios now are just brilliant. Your 2730A is a great mobile rig. I have its older brother the 2720H. Still going strong.
vk2xjm ....thats what is making me ask the question, because the 991a is an all mode, including 2m and 70cm. Seems like a lot of radio for the price point
@@jay-rus4437 Yes, you are correct. It has 2 and 70cm with the 991A. I stand corrected. As far as the price point goes, it must come down to that the 9700 is a SDR radio....Maybe, but it also has 23cm built in. Apparently that band alone costs $$$. I got told once, "If you want to play, You got to pay!!" Seems to be the story of my life!!
v.nice setup, i like how tidy your radios are as well. Thanks for uploading.
Great video,thx
Beautiful pair!! Going to wait for a bit and get some rebate reductions.
I like the new look of the Icom's, time to upgrade the 706mkIIg..

Hello! Is there a crossband feature on the transceiver IC-9700?

can I use an IC 7300 or IC 9700 option to use external monitor or an external panadpater? 73
I love Icom. The only thing I don't like about these 2 is that they have ALC's
Why does that matter? Is that a big issue? Sorry new to radio and I’m trying to figure out as much as I can.
Do both of these get 111.75 usb?
Great video...what antenna tuner are you running on the 7300?? Thanks
The Tuner is a LDG 200 proii. Works very well with my 80/40M dipole and 6 band Hexbeam.

@@vk2xjm What do you mean by it’s an SDR radio also?
Absolute like it so I know that to save for ;) 73 m0wao
Is the fan noisey?
Does the ic-9700 have extended receive, or does it only cover the ham bands?
Not that I know of at this stage.
Only the ham bands. and no 6 meter either.
@2:38 You wont have Comp in FM mode either I dont think. SSB you will though.
Your floor noise on 20M is horrific :)
mine sok.
