I played this piece (the version for solo player) when I made my concert debut in 1965, and practiced so hard and so long to make sure I got it right. My pants were falling down when I walked up the stairs to the stage and the crowd laughed at me, but I sat down, got out the music, and played the piece with no mistakes ! And I got a standing ovation. It is hard, but a worthy piece for an aspiring pianist. And I'm glad I worked so hard and did so well and am glad of it to this day.

I had always wondered what Christmas tune opened the medley since it isn't a Christmas tune with which I (or most of my fellow Americans, I suspect) was familiar. Since I've played that medley three consecutive years so far, it's a part of my Christmas. It's interesting to know it's associated with Christmas in Sweden.
