    Thanks! I just bought the 4070 version of this laptop from COSTCO. I don't need the expense of the 4090 and I only run one favorite game (Empyrion).. I had a GE77 earlier and it died due to excessive heat.. I bought a cooling fan base for this new one. I am a fan of MSI so this should be a great laptop.. Thanks for the honest reviews.

      @@thachlel I really love my new 78HX from Costco. The screen is amazing very very bright. In fact I have it near the kitchen window sitting on my table which faces the window no problem. I had the Raider 77. It overheated and died and I really loved that laptop. I play a game called Empyrion and the new 2600 by 1800 graphics look really really good on that game. I can now see texture such as shine on metal objects so the answer your question. Yes, the graphics are incredible. The screen is very bright and I’ve been very impressed. What I would recommend is by yourself a little stand and get the back corner up about a quarter inch. I just use a couple padsand use the high setting on your fans if you’re gonna be gaming something that takes a lot of horsepower. Keep it cool.

      @@thachlel as I said earlier, I had the raider 77 earlier which overheated I took it back to Costco after 18 months they gave me a full refund so I applied it to this raider 78. For those who have the 12UHS-063, it's only true superiority is in that extra heat pipe and a few more CUDA CORES. However, they kept it in the same price range. The real advance in that there is a GPU made on the 4nm scale, which means higher performance at a lower TDP; this is very promising, and when combined with the extra cooling capacity, it means more computing power without changing the shell, frame or weight. Now that's progress. Now, if MSI offered a buyback/upgrade program, this would be a no-brain er. When someone asks, "Then what do they do with the 3080 Ti laptops that come in?" Easy; they make sure they're functional, and put them into a fresh plastic shell, which is then sold again as REFURBISHED for 75% of original detail. NO E-WASTE, and a great deal for someone willing to be two generations behind the curve. Someone who can get into one of these is willing to invest in the new one as they come out to be as bleeding edge as they can be-especially when added productivity means getting your projects encoded or transocded faster. Render times mean greater turnaround, which means more profitable. Gamers will have access to the DLSS 3, which I hope the gatekeepers at NVIDIA release later on. Remember that the coding for drivers can make a HUGE difference in how well a GPU performs. DirectX13 will prove that.
    Those who play Flight Simulator 2020, the fans feel and sound exactly like an a320NEO!
    On a purely aesthetic note; the 12UHS-063 is ALL BLACK, so when you have the lighting completely off, it's very discreet. That red strip on the new one is a deal-breaker for me. WHEN, oh WHEN will MSI get the message that those who can spend $6,500.00 for this machine, and add quad 990 PRO NVME Drives, DO NOT WANT RGB, RED STRIPES and all the other crap that screams "STEAL ME, and bash me over the head for my laptop, please!" You're putting people's lives at risk, unless they never venture outside with their laptop.

    70 DBA while under load, the fans are so loud, the same as the Raider GE76 that I owned for one year. Temps and cooling are awful to say the least.
    I currently sold it to swap to an ASUS STRIX SCAR 18 (G834) with the Intel Core i9 13980HX and NVIDIA RTX 4090 (16GB) which I'm receiving in the mail today by DPD. It has a 18" 2K screen, rather than a 17.3" 4K one, but it means that I get better performance and 4K on a gaming laptop is kind of pointless. I'll hook the laptop up to a 4KTV via HDMI for 4K gaming.

    I was curious if in the "Integrated Graphics Only" mode do any of the video output ports still function, and if so are they driven by the Intel GPU?

    • @GenTechPC
      @GenTechPC  2 года назад

      yes video output ports will still working and Intel GPU will be completely disabled.

      You mean iGPU? Like intel GPU only? I believe the HDMI port stops working, but one or maybe more of the USB-C DisplayPorts will continue to work. You may have to read the fine details in the specs.

    I don't like the design. It's too chunky and not really portable.

    What is the fashion, MSI, to make only one combo output for headphones and microphone instead of making two separate ones? Just because of that I won't upgrade my MSI GS9 (btw my laptop has 3 SSD slots!!)

    • @ViciousXUSMC
      @ViciousXUSMC 2 года назад

      That is really common these days, because the most common thing to use is a headset that uses a combo jack. So for most people it would actually be worse to have the older style split (and it takes up more space) But! You are absolutely fine you can just get a 3.5mm TRRS to TRS break out cable and split it out yourself.
      Also most streamers these days seem to be using USB microphones, or USB audio interfaces.

      @@ViciousXUSMC I hate adapters and splitters, as well as combo jacks - they are a source of interference and signal degradation. I'm a streamer, but I use a Marshall XLR condenser microphone - what's wrong with me? I hate USB microphones.

      @@PlayGameToday I use a Shure SM7B with a Cloud Lifter to a Behringer X18, but at the end of the day my mixer is connected via USB.
      From actual electrical testing, a good splitter is not going to hurt your signal, nor is it large enough to pick up any EMI or other interference. (Same argument already won in RCA vs XLR for very high end audio pre-out setups)
      If your at this "level" of needs as far as performance, I can't see using any built in 3.5mm audio connection. Your arguing for quality and how adapters hurt the quality, and usb microphones are not good enough quality, then. Want to use built in sound cards on a laptop and expect quality?
      Those are in some of the highest interference and noise scenarios possible due to the close quarters with all the hardware.
      You should be looking at an audio interface if quality is what you demand.
      How exactly are you using your Marshall to a 3.5mm connection?
      IMO professional opinion you want a good digital interface with a clean pre-amp for anything serious. There is no way I would be using 3.5mm for my XLR microphone and having it go thru more analog conversion than necessary.
