Watched 3 times and didn’t see anything about PCM ground, I have a PCM code 1518 and many sources say it could be a ground issue, would you please post the location of PCM ground? Thank you and thanks for the great video, I’m saving this one.
Thank you so much. Been having problems with Gauge cluster, radio, and wipers. Going to clean the ground on Driver side foot panel. Just cleaned the four cowl drain bladders, and think my grounds may have gotten corroded.
@@timothyandemerald If your looking for the ground, it's between the door jam and parking brake release. You have to remove the plastic cover that covers the bottom of the door opening and the inside cowl.
If you remove your right rear tail light there are a couple grounds there near the antenna. And on the rear inside frame rail near the muffler's there is one each side
Thank you for reviewing these grounding locations. Ground location #3( G401) is actually best accessed by removing the rear drivers side tire. It is connected to the frame rail directly behind the tire.
I need to do an updated version of this video with better lighting & showing the points (I had the car torn apart about 3 times now). I'm glad it was helpful! 👍🤙
Wuzup, bro! Big fan of the channel, no problem supporting it. You saved me alot of $$ and time.. would a bad ground cause the ac not to come on, already checked the fuses and relays. I'm stomped
You were so close to the areas of the grounds I could not see what part of the car you were at. It would’ve helped if you would’ve had a laser pointer or a sharp flashlight beam to be more specific.
FYI, there are actually 13 grounding points on the C5. The two behind the radiator on either side or plugs that need to be taken apart and cleaned also.
Absolutely. Plus there are two white ground wires on the back of the drivers side rear head. You have to remove the intake to get to it. Good video but still incomplete because they’re 13 grounds not 9.
He actually mentioned the problematic grounds the one on the head unless out in a field or hood off i dont think would ever require cleaning @StardustAutomotive
Know this was 3 years or more but thanks for the learning. My C5 won't start, new battery(2) since it keeps killing batteries and now we looking at your video. Hope she does not have to go in hospital😢
you're missing the ground points under the pass and driver side headers that go to the block. Ive had fuel pump issues when the driver side ground under the header ground wire was loose.
4:22 I would like to find this ground point.. the side panel next to footrest would need to be removed to access it? Any info on how to remove that cover would be helpful.
Curious- Radio Shack? I haven't seen one in many years. Not even on line. Good video though for the 9 most common grounds of the 13 total ground points.
I've went through most all of those to troubleshoot my speedometer not responding. I bought the factory service manual. I also discovered my PCM is ungrounded in the process. Troubleshooting that I find S120 and G120 are where the PCM grounds. However, I cannot figure out where those points are... The FSM doesn't specify. Ug. Any help would be appreciated.
I have a U 1064 code. I'm wondering if it's a ground problem now. Thanks for sharing. Anybody had that code before? Appreciate any help and thanks again
It started with clicking noise, i replaced starter because battery is good 13.2 Volts. After installing the starter I, It turns over nicely, but won't start. And I have a shit storm of codes, LIGHTS; Check Eng, ABS and Traction Control. MESSAGES; 1. Reduce Engine Power 2. Check Tire Pressure 3. Service Engine Soon. 4. Low Fuel. When I went to look up codes; all of them 40-BCM NO COMM, 58-SDM NO COMM 60 IPC NO COMM. All of them NO Communication. I pulled ground the 4 smaller ground wires, cleaned and reattached cleaned all of the ground wires associated with this issue. My questions is could it be the ignition or the PCM or PCB?
What could make the gauge lights turn off as soon as the motor is on? They turn on when I unlock the car and when I turn on the ignition they are still on. So they are working. But as soon as the motor starts they turn off. 🤔 They are off regardless of whether or not I have the headlights up, but they did turn off the first time when I touched that lever. Can't remember if I turned on the headlights or cruise control or what, but I heard a short quite "beep" sound and the gauge lights turned off. Since then I can't get them to turn on when the motor is running. 🤔 I just boight it the other week. The former owner said that the fog lights stopped working the last time he washed the car, and that it keeps blowing fuses since then. But for me, everything else has worked until now, including all lights, until this gauge lights issue occured suddenly. 🤔
How about the battery (brand new OPTIMA) dying every 5-6 days?? Could one of these be the issue ? No other symptoms and it seems to charge as it will restart and if I start daily - it seems to be OK. Just do not have the time...
Which ground is the one for hvac unit? 97 c5 dual climate control. My hvac unit display will sometimes just die out then randomly come back on. It’s been doing this for a bit but now seems like it won’t come back on at all even after an extended period of time. I replaced all hvac fuses just incase under the passenger seat. Any help would be really appreciated!
@@gilgonzalez5902 it was the ignition switch contacts that needed to be cleaned up. Also I had the resistors on the hvac unit resoldered. Fixed works like new
I Think i have two electrical issues, one being the fuel gauge always reads empty, i replaced the fuel pump a few months ago and still reads E, also my DIC does not light up, it did a few weeks ago for a brief period of time flickering on and off
okay so my issue is randomly all the lights on the dash come on, all my guagues max out and fuel goes to zero. and all the digital warning texts scroll through...reduced power/low fuel/low coolant/traction control. etc etc. im not sure whats going on but if i restart the car it could be okay for a while, or it will happen when im driving. i cleaned all the grounds inside the hood already
@@jay2x477 the ebcm I believe. I took the ground off of it and cleaned it all up and it all went away. But yeah definitely ebcm related. Don't have to replace but it's definitely annoying with all the warning lights. Really only messes ya if if you're selling the car.
Another issue I'm having with my 03 Z06 is that under WOT, my volt meter will drop and I will get a CEL and "Service Charging System." I've always suspected it was a bad ground 'somewhere,' but where to start? Suggestions?
Very useful video that no one else will do. But very hard to see because so much in camera shadow doing it alone. Need a helper to hold light and point at splice pack with a dowel. A bit too close, so hard to understand what part of frame I'm looking at. On my C5, the problem was grounding between the frame and the splice block just as you say.
It could be ur security lock doing it..if u take out the battery for a good while it will have to relearn ur key..it will say take key off for 10 secs..sounds familiar
I fully charged my battery and my dash cluster lights flash on and off, and unable to start the car. Sometimes I take the key out about 3 or 4 times and then it’s back to normal. I found one ground strap on the drivers side from the frame to the engine block is green(oxidized) it can’t be helping. I am leaning to either a security issue or a bad ignition switch. Any advice you have I greatly appreciate it.
Good video. The battery strap and the two in the back had some corrosion under the nuts. Cleaned them up and put a few drops of conductive oil on them. Keep'em coming.
If the rest of your cluster has power most likely not not unfortunately as they all run off the same ground. I read somewhere some time ago that the speedo's on these tend to go out. Throwing in a new one isn't terribly hard though.
since the c5's had so many grounding issues the c6's came with the ground wires soldered to the frame to prevent the same issues but yes they should be in about the same Area
Heads up yall: I tried doing the "accordion jiggle" at first and it wasn't working for me. you need to pull the accordion out and to the side, and shake the fuck out of the cable itself and it should fix - at least temporarily
Went through the same issue a few months ago. The problem was in the ignition tumbler. The 'chip' in your key is actually a resistor. Take your key and measure on the ohm setting of your multimeter. There are 15 different keys for your Vette. Figure out the resistance your key is supplying to the VATS. The fix for me is pulling the VATS connector off the back of the ignition tumbler. I went to Radio Shack (yes, we still have 2 in New Jersey) and purchased 2 resistors that equalled the amount of resistance needed for the VATS. I soldered them together and 'plugged' them into the plug for the VATS harness and taped the shit out of it with electrical tape. Put the key in the ignition and it fired right up. Total cost of the fix was around $4. LOL
I appreciate the effort, but it would've been better to use a laser pointer/flashlight. The locations you mentioned are very vague without a pointer. Nice try, though....
Can't find the one behind the plastic on the driver side kick. Well. That's because you're just reading the wiring diagram and not actually doing it. You've never actually seen these in real life, have you?
Yeah I'm not terribly satisfied with this video. I'm probably going to redo it with better footage & lighting considering I have since pretty much taken the entire car apart. Good feedback
