Absolutely, too many awards devalues the whole lot. That's always what happens when you flood the market, rarity/exclusivity is what makes them worth something/more. Wouldn't expect anything less from Butler for not really wanting/caring about the ECFMVP. Yeah clutch player award definitely seems like they're reaching on that one too, at least a bit arbitrary and not terribly meaningful other than maybe sounding kinda cool for being recognized as a "clutch" guy, whatever the criteria may be. Yes NBA cup speciality court designs are cool, but also yeah, not sure it's going to have the lasting impact/significance that the league wants it to. Agree, defensive player awards are good/meaningful to recognize guys playing on the other side of the ball that doesn't usually get too much of the glory. Also good comparison of Deandre to Dort for the reasons you gave. Some flashy/highlight plays don't necessarily mean you are a better defender (and deserve an award more) than another guy who passes the eye test defensively more, but doesn't show up in the stat sheet as much. All star players (especially starters) being a popularity contest definitely has some merit it to too (unfortunately). I've seen quite a few times where guys get snubbed in favor of other less deserving players. Great way to sum it up as all stars being the most culturally relevant players. Agree MIP is fine for what it seeks to acknowledge, showing a player who had the biggest jump from one year to the next. 6th man kinda same but different, best guy to help give a team's second unit the ability to gain/extend a lead, worth mentioning I suppose. All NBA team is basically the sum total "you are the best players in the league" pound for pound in a way. Well I could say same for people who hyperfocus on stats. Stats do have a place somewhere but it's not the be all and end all, since if there is one stat that does matters then it's clearly number of rings and how much did you contribute to get that ring. Which in my reasoning, the 73 wins Warriors are still inferior to the 72 wins Bulls mainly because they won the ring that year. I'm not at all saying the 73 Warriors are a bad team, quite the opposite but not winning the championship when that's all that really matters in the post season is kinda just saying you got lucky in the regular season but when teams actually start to analyze and sit down to learn how to beat your own team specifically and you cant win the whole series then that is a clear stain on your record. I know Donkey Kong got suspended on that series but why the hell did it even reach to that level in the first place and why was there no serious consequences to his actions prior to that event? It's not like it was the first time it happened to Donkey? He is like that simply because the team doesn't care about him acting like that despite being a contributor to the team. Look at Dennis Rodman for example on the 72 wins Bulls.. He sure was one of the craziest players off the court but on the court, his team made sure he did his part on the team and wasn't just getting himself ejected off the court during the most important games.. I don't care what you do off the court, some of the most famous NBA players are just awful human beings but that doesn't stop them from being great ON the court.

I like the NBA Cup, but I don't think there should be an NBA Cup MVP (given to LeBron last year). It takes up under ten games of the season. It's arguably less impressive than winning a player of the month award. Also, there's now five awards labelled as some kind of MVP (regular season, NBA Cup, All-Star, Conference, and Finals). That's just way too many. I think that the NBA cup though was a good idea. There's another accomplishment to fight for and it helps make the start of the season more interesting. I think the value of it will increase with time once people get used to it, and I think it will especially be seen as more valuable if a team ever wins an NBA double (both the cup and the chip). It gives players some early competitive basketball, giving worse teams a reason to be competitive (they can win something) and help incentive the good teams from slacking off. I do think though that the NBA Cup should be a little longer. I think group play should be at least 8-10 games. And I think those 8 games plus the NBA Cup tournament should be spread out further and should end with the Cup game during All-Star weekend. I think having a longer tournament will inflate the Cup's importance and having the Final during All-Star weekend will give it more spectacle.
Great video. I think the MIP should be removed because it's given for young superstars to just add to their awards. I think it should be given to the ok-ish player who improved or became an important piece to the team. Also, hate the yellow courts. they remind me of pee

He sure was one of the craziest players off the court but on the court, his team made sure he did his part on the team and wasn't just getting himself ejected off the court during the most important games.. I don't care what you do off the court, some of the most famous NBA players are just awful human beings but that doesn't stop them from being great ON the court.
Yeah, it's complicated and we all interpret in our own ways. Greatness is sort of subjective as well as importance. WHo's donkey?
Or maybe the winner of the in-season tournament should be awarded hosting rights of the draft... that, or the winner of the previous NBA Finals.
I say guarantee em a playoff spot
We have too many. We need OPY though.
What about No MVP, but a OPOY?
@ Nah we need MVPs. Take our cpoy
The jimmy butler example is a bad one because he gave it to his dad who was hospitalized.
Thanks man, glad you liked it!
Holy shit you’re a genius. Let the best G league teams enter the mid season tourney
maybe I am a genius 😏
I have an idea for a video why the nba and sports media is determined to ignore and disrespect the Toronto raptors no matter what the team does or accomplish
hmm.. got some examples of disrespect for your unc?
@@whatslaps the 2019 championship run barely any coverage of that
@@warwolf88... Barely any coverage?!? O_o That Kwahi shot is one of the single most discussed, referenced, shown, etc.. of all damn time! And that Finals vs the Warriors gets plenty of coverage too. Insecure Canadian is insecure. 🤷
Another banger goat
thank you, brother 🙇
Why do players get hated?
entitlement and ego typically
I agree. the NBA cup is a good idea, but the execution is off. It needs tweaked for sure. definitely over too quick.

I thought the reason andrew wiggins was an all star was because of kpop fans
I heard that too. what was the deal with that?
Basically some kpop dude said andrew wiggins was his favorite player and got all his fans to vote for The wiggster
No but go off sir ig
consider me already gone off
2028 Olympic team predictions🙏

Great video.
I think the MIP should be removed because it's given for young superstars to just add to their awards.
I think it should be given to the ok-ish player who improved or became an important piece to the team.
Also, hate the yellow courts. they remind me of pee
I think the yellow courts look like cartoon sand.
Are you a psychic or something? How did you know I am not in fact Jerry West from 1969?
honestly just a wild guess
real question, who is ur goat ?
A.C. Green and Mookie Blaylock.
Can someone explain what the 0.500 ratings and such mean? Like it good for a team to be -0.2700 or i dont even remember how its written
like gambling odds?
@whatslaps yeah I think so
What about Klutch player of the year?
they probably already do that over there I imagine.
Cam Thomas deserves an all star
he might get it
I am a Uk based fan, I am a big Giannis and dame fan but I also love the Miami heat. I am torn as who to support full time please help!
Just stick with the heat. If you're lucky Giannis or Dame will find their way there.
Can vote on you to replace Adam silver in the next years?
he's fine. I don't mind him. At least he's not Goodell
I know it's not an award,
but I'd like to see the praise and highlights end for Bricky James tying his shoes.
I feel like things quieted down a bit. He could be in the CBA for all I know now.
@@whatslaps they made a highlight of him getting two blocks in the game against the Blazers..
and one of them was a goal tend...
