  • Big sighs. Exhales. Controlled breathing. All ways we might act to dissipate an emotion rather than be with it. Sometimes that’s okay, because we really don’t have the capacity to be with a sensation that intense. And sometimes we do!
How can you explore and expand your capacity?
    1) - Learn the theory of the nervous system.
    2) - Do the practices.
    3) - Test it out.
Here are two ways to get started on 1 & 2 and then, rest assured…life will bring you opportunity for the rest.

Thank you Irene. Your course ‘21 days Tune Up The Nervous System’ brought me so much more calm than the 7 years of yoga and pranayama practice.

    💯 Irene
I was sitting in on a visit from a psychologist/councillor, with a group of farming women who had gone through a traumatic flooding experience.
She asked us to breathe, and I immediately shifted to panic , my nervous system triggered by (my brain, "oh shes needs to breathe deep, something bad is happening")
The councillor saw me and was actually aware of what was happening and asked I stop ✋️

Cool. I think I get it. And even- you might normally have a decent level of capacity, but you're in a stressful season for a bit- (caring for my dying dad, a few weeks left only) so right in THIS moment I probably need big breaths, but I'll come up out of this again.

What are your thoughts on breathwork. For example 1 hour.

    Hi Irene/Team Lyon,
I never used to get sick, but I’ve been getting a lot of viruses since getting deeper into my nervous system healing journey. Have you noticed this with your patients? My mom says I’m finally getting viruses like “normal” people lol.

@rachd4794 Hello, Sophia here from Team Lyon. Thank you for your comment and for sharing about what is going on for you. We don't generally assess individual symptoms because of the complex nature of this work. It might be worth exploring this with a medical practitioner as well, to assess all possible causes. Irene's work helps most people heal at the nervous system level, which generally has a positive impact on the entire human system.
Here is what Irene had to say about the process of healing trauma and how this can create tension in the body ruclips.net/video/EN8LyyG8mQw/видео.html I hope this helps!

This is important for those of us who are always by ourself processing stress. When I settle on the shallow it will be stuck in my chest and gut until I really force a deep breath. I’m going to be conscious about it today. ❤

This is very good, thank you Irene! You think this is true also for someone who is having a panic attack? To me it always seemed counterintuitive to make someone breahe in this situation. The diafragme is blocked due to fight/flight response, so it is meant to make your breath short. I tried mentioning this to some people and they didn’t seem to understand what I am saying, as “breathe in deeply” seems to be the most obvious thing to do whe na pa occurs. Although when I went through pa’s, this never helped me, only made things worse.
