Is it time for the smartphone industry to rethink its strategy, or are we simply bored with tech that doesn't evolve fast enough?
"phones that charge in 15 minutes but dies just as fast" this doesnt even happen. Stop excusing slow charging and making the phone cost 1000usd.
Smartphones are so fast and powerful nowadays that one can EASILY use it for 4 years and not have any shortfall or inadequacy in usage

I be using midrange for like 5 years evey now and agian I get a flagship which I really need one cause I game and all that but I'm waiting on folding phones
just 4 years? I've a Xiaomi mia2 and still works fresh for my needs. I don't think buying anything until it dies (probably will use a dumbphone, srsly tired of phones).
@@unkn0wn_416 You have to remember that it's only in the last one year that OS upgrades and security patches have been increased to 5-7 years. I still have my 2019 Note 10 Plus it no longer gets updates so I just use it for PDFs, audiobooks and media consumption.

because their target are teenagers while adults only need their phone for calling, social media, etc. and adults dont see a difference in 60hz to 120hz, adults barely scratch their phones maximum power. i think phone companys should countinue evolving just like computer parts getting better and better. but i do agree phones are getting better and better to the point that the new flagships have very minimal improvements like a slightly faster cpu, etc. and i dont think anyone should upgrade every year either. but 120 hz does matter, snapdragon 8 gen 4 does matter, FHD screens does matter, brighter screens do matter, better cameras do matter, their target arent full grown adults who dont care nor see a difference in a higher screen refresh rate for example. but the younger people, the newer generations, they will countinue to push things to its limits. mobile video games however i kinda agree are not keeping up with the performance of the flagships, it seems more like games are just downgrading. but that will most certainly change in the future, just like how recently (even tho these has already existed before) emulating windows games got popular, emulating games like gta5 and etc. i think even the new samsung s24 cant reach 60fps in gta 5 so phone performance definitely needs to keep evolving and i am looking forward to newer generations and what extreme rtx games on mobile in the future will bring
Good points! I think all the improvements do matter, but not after 1 generation, it takes years to actually see a bigger difference. And emulation is a really good point, but I wish there were more native games.
Do you think adults can't see the difference? They can but they have different priorities and see what is important differently. Clicking on an icon wasn't a bigger deal but when you scroll fast up and down it felt nice.
BUT is that more important than my battery lasting longer? No it isn't.
Also although nice is still such a small thing that is unimportant to the overall experience. Because if am getting faster refresh rate i expect a better experience in many aspects no just when i scroll fast.
But no other than that nothing really changes. Games can't even go over 60fps etc. In the end 60hz scrolling still works well enough to not feel like i am losing much by not keeping my screen at 120hz.

I feel like literally the only reason to upgrade is for battery life. All the other features that come with that battery are just kinda meh.
Fast charging is pretty 🔥🔥 tho

Absolutely correct. The last several iPhone generations have been strictly incremental. If you have a working 12, 13, 14, or 15, then there is no reasonable justification to upgrade to the 16.
Apple Intelligence, or AI, is too gimmicky. It has very limited utility. AI is no reason to upgrade.
The Camera Control button is, in my opinion, the worst feature this year. It's totally superfluous and unnecessary. It's too fiddly and awkward to use. And the biggest sin? It actually *slows* down the picture-taking process. Bad. Bad.
Skip the 16. Maybe the 17 will break some new ground. Here's hoping.

The heavier the phone, the less you use it, the less you’re addicted to it…
They should stop for a year or two with the speeds of the chips and just focus on reliable and software improvements. Ex. Stronger more reliable 5g/4g, longer battery life, more smooth and less buggy/glitchy softwares, more customizable etc. edit: and release it for all the phones that have the hardware (memory) to do such software changes as well

As someone who holds a 2017 phone, I like the iPhone 16 the most but I wish Apple can give everything the EU asks of Apple without having to spend billions on it.

if my Fold3 ever gives up the ghost, I'm going back to my LG G8s. With Snapdragon 855 & a desktop mode, I'll still be able to use it to run Linux on my lapdock, just like I do with my Fold.
I agree especially on the hz thing,i have a 180 hz monitor and a 360 hz and i can't see any fucking noticeable difference,even at slow motion it's so hard to see the difference so i see a 144hz refresh rate for phones is the best and doesnt need to upgrade more

Normal phone screens nowadays are way too durable that you don't even need a screen protector most of the time, a case is all you need
If foldable screens are as durable as those normal screens, it'd be a step up for real, but unfortunately they're not, for now
i wasnt going to change from the 7.2" 20x. but i keep getting messages notifications that 3g is leaving this month and volte 28/700 is also required for phone calls .
*i struggle to text on this phone (my hands r average for a bloke) and i think a skinnier phone will make my texting even more crap
Something like the single screen on surface duo2 is appealing to try, but I don't want a $foldable$ that i would likely brake.

Im leaning towards something like the nothing phone 2a locally. mostly because there are just too many options it's draining to go through the subtle differences.
And then just have a look every now and again to see if that niche product comes along that is shorter n wider like the closed duo 2 dimensions 145mm x 92mm (unlikely the ways trends are going through).

i don't do major updates... it slows down my phone because it is just galaxy ao5s... i just making it off-the-grid just simply using as music and movie player for dolby atmos, sms texting and calling.... i never facebooking and youtubing....

Foldables aren’t innovation all they do is fold stop lying dude Foldables are so impractical and useless like what’s the point of buying one what does that phone do that’s truly impressive I would better buy an iPhone 14 Plus with good battery and life saving features like satellite communication SOS and crash detection or Pixel with their AI helping tools or a Galaxy for their DEX feature.
i guess it depends on the person, for some people a foldable is completely pointless when a $300 ipad exists. For other people, they dont care about any of the iphone features and they want something that stands out. I do think its an innovation because these days most new features that come to phones feel like software updates.
@@Techsnowball I get where you’re coming from but exclusivity and uniqueness is not innovation that’s like saying I want a car made out of iron rather than Aluminum because iron has this features or that features, no Foldables are very pointless I know of some people who use it because of it’s incredible multitasking capabilities they do it far better than slab phones because these phones are big to view your content full not half that’s why I don’t want multitasking on iPhone but on a foldable that does work more than one app at a time with full screen view is great but multitasking alone shouldn’t be a reason to buy it knowing you swipe the white line at the bottom of your phone to get to the other app just as quick since the processor won’t have to handle two tasks rather one it also runs faster and future chip wear out is less likely to happen so yeah Foldables haven’t brought up any innovation that actually benefits humanity through communication advancement, safety, easy-ness of use and more. But I do get your point.
Why Are you buying the Plus model.
If foltables offering a. Igger screen aren't offering anything then why will you go for the bigger screen of the Plus model. Get the small one.

I've noticed when it comes to males it's mostly updating when you NEED to. Ypur phone breaks, batteries decay or you need to switch for whatever reason. With females though, it's about having the latest without knowing why it's different from your last phone.
I doubt foldables will be the next big thing
I'm 21 and in my life i've only ever bought two phones galaxy A425G
and the S24 Ultra and i'm not upgrading my phone until it stops working and I didn't buy the ultra model just because of the name ultra I bought it because I like the size of the phone

I wonder why they don't just slow down their release circle. Like doing it every 1.5 year. That means in 3 years they will have two releases instead of three.

Some people are big fans of the company and buy phones regardless of what's new. Also, alot of people have contracts that let them get a new phone every single year. But yeah I agree with you.

haha thats quite bad. you would love oneplus 12, 8-10 hours of usage. Basically 2 light days. and charges from 0-100 in 25 min. Its a battery beast.
