I just read the story about Qantas playing this movie on the Sydney to Japan flight. I never heard of this movie, and when I just pulled up this preview and saw Sean Penn, I knew I would not be watching it no matter how much "penis and boobs" are in it. That was an actual Reddit comment from a passenger on the Qantas flight, he said it was 40 minutes of penis and boobs. 😅
I was a cab driver in San Francisco during the 90s. One saturday night a girl got in my cab. She was heading for a party. We started talking. I was 25 back then, she was 21. I was going to the university and driving a cab during weekends to subsidize my drinking habit. She started talking. We talked and talked. When I was about to drop her to the party, she said, she would rather talk to me than go to a party with pretentious strangers. We rode around San Francisco for few hours. I turned the meter off. I was enjoying talking to her. We dove deep into each other. Then we went to the party together. We parked the cab a block south, so her friends wouldn't laugh that she brought a cabby to the party. Then we went to her home. She let me love her. She cried. A lot of pain was under her skin. Then in the morning I took my cab and deposited in the base garage. We never exchanged phone numbers. There was no facebook back then. We never saw each other again. It was nearly thirty years ago. I cannot remember her name. But I remember that strange and beautiful night.

Dakota and Sean did a great work on portraying the characters with remarkable finesse. I enjoyed every minute of it.
Absolutely stunning film. The dialog between the two was achingly honest without seeming contrived. It felt real. And by the end I -- like them -- didnt want the ride to end. But there was a beautiful pathos about the fact that a man and a woman could have such a powerful connection without it feeling like repressed longing. The title says it all. A young woman, and a somewhat lost man, who desperately need the type of conversation that they had. An enormously therapeutic journey. I could see Penn getting an Oscar nomination for this role. And he would deserve it. Dakota was wonderful as well, with a very nuanced performance. I cant recommend this film highly enough.
