I am 83. I have a life threatening disease.. I am concerned about the future of life on this earth. I worry about it all. But this music calms me. It makes me remember all those I have loved and who have loved me. The film also I have replayed many times. Thank you for your genius. I can go now knowing all was not in vain. With things like this there will alway be hope. God bless you all.
What a beautiful comment Chester. I hope you are going well through your illness. I lost my father last month and came here for this music for comfort. It is a beautiful piece. I share your concerns about our world.
This was Dads favourite piece of music so we chose to play it at his funeral. I'm not the most emotional of people and I managed not to cry at the crematorium little understanding that it would have probably done me good to do so. A few weeks later I was driving and tuned into Classic FM and this was playing. Suddenly all the emotion bubbled over and I started to weep, feeling the loss, the beauty of this music just pressed the button and I had no choice. After I while I felt much better and realised that the grief and emotion I had bottled up needed to get out, and I am now able to think of Dad, still missing him of course but without the pain. Such is the power of music.
My mother was born in South Africa and we played this at her funeral. I then had it played at my son's funeral last year. I will have it played at my funeral. Haunting and wonderful.
I lived in East Africa for almost 40 years. .I miss Africa so much more than I could say and John Barry's haunting music never fails to make me cry for my memories of such a wonderful life I had there. ..
My wife wanted to become a flight attendend , she's not much of a movie person also never watched any movie twice ! But that flying over... made her cry allot.
Driving taxis in Nairobi, reading out of Africa book, Finch hatons dancing in the sun, visiting Karen's house later climbing ngong hills to visiting Finch hatons grave. Later in the evening listening to John Barry out of Africa sound track. Makes me feel like I lived in those days. I can still smell the magic of Africa.
I am recently in touch with a family south of Nairobi, the father owns Lengete photography 📸 Fabulous photography of the region. Seeing them and knowing the movie is very sad. We have helped with water as the water boreholes often are damaged. Amboseli looks beautiful with spectacular scenery and incredible wildlife. ❤❤❤ I've never been there but can appreciate your feelings 😌
I've always felt this is the single loveliest piece of music ever written for a movie soundtrack. The word "genius" is so often over-used, but John Barry truly was a genius.
@@christophermacintyre5890 He wasn't half! I also love many of his other scores, Dances with Wolves, Raise the Titanic, Somewhere in Time, there are so many!
Hauntingly beautiful. I have watched this movie several times. Masterful performance by Streep and Redford. Scenery beautiful. Gives us pause as to how precious our universe is.
So I was 16 when I first found a cassette tape in my house my dad bought and forgot. That was 21 years ago. I remember listening to this and being so moved. For some reason I remembered it today, and I cried. Reading the comments about other peoples story for this masterpiece also made me cry because the stories are relatable, and I’m feeling nogstalgic all over again
I loove this theme of the film "Out of Africa", film with Robert Redford and Meryl Streep. I cry every time I see the film. This is the most beautiful theme I ever heard for a film, it goes perfect with the film which is one of my favorite films ever. The music fills my hear with love, sadness and joy all at once. The film is full of passion and beauty. Thank you so much for this magnificent music!!
I first heard this in Art 101. I was a young woman and it touched my heart then and I love it to this day. It has so much emotion within and it makes you realize how important music is to the soul. Thank you for this beauty.
This film is so special to my mother and I. I know the whole film by 💜. And we literally watched it more times than I can count. It's our special thing.
This was my dad’s favorite movie. I remember heading to Colorado and he was playing this soundtrack. It sounded so familiar, I asked my dad who was the Composer of it? My dad didn’t know. Lucky I had a signal and looked it up. How ironic it was John Berry, who Composed my favorite music from Somewhere in Time.
My wish is to have this played at my memorial service, as well. One of the most BEAUTIFUL pieces of music ever composed. Touches the soul DEEPLY. John Barry was a brilliant and exceptionally-GIFTED composer. 🌹🌹🌹
One of my favourite movies. A soundtrack so so beautiful, lovely , powerful, that makes us dream, lift to Heaven, and makes us shiver. One of the movies of my Life.
I was lucky enough to visit Kenya about 30 years ago for six weeks as my husband was working there. After being picked up at the aiport we drove to where Alan was working - on the drive giraffes were lolloping on the side of the road next to us! I stayed mostly in Nairobi, but also visited the Aberdares, and spent some time on the Masai Mara in a camp. I have never forgotten the overwhelming beauty and majesty of it. It's something I wish everyone could see. Barry's music suits it so well. Happy memories.
I've loved this theme music for years, possibly my all time favourite piece of music, stunning, sweeping, evocative. Will tell my 3 girls this is what I want playing at my funeral, hoping it's not too soon.
Never in the history of music of all genres has there exhibited ,in music an actual expercience of place , time ,direction , and existence as this masterpiece. The LEITMOTIF of horn, brass and strings with the woodwin places a narrative that resonates in such a way that visual interpretation is not required
Music brings out lots of repressed memories and emotions, get them , don’t carry excess feelings, deal with them on the spot and what a new waits for you. 😊
An absolutely great and beautiful piece of music, which perfectly fits the setting of the film Out of Africa. Very, very moving. With its stunning cinematography as well as the music, the film certainly deserved its Oscars, including Best Picture.
Dear All, I'm astonished with your comments. I've just wrote a letter to my daughter asking her to play this music my cremation and what could happen after that... No, fortunately I'm not dying, neither I have any kind of disease (to my knowledge... ) Anyway, I do feel feel confortable to know that my wish seems the same for others. I know pretty well a lot of classical music as well as movies soundtracks from distinct composers. But this one is special for me since the first time I saw the movie (had 17 years), read the book (in my twenties) written by Karen Blixen and heard the soundtrack by John Barry (lot of times) made for this movie. It is a sad music but full of hope. With a sad happiness. I just hope like as many of you did, that my daughter can have the courage to play this music in my funeral to be (hope it will take years) as some of you already did. And I also hope that my daughter stay alive for many years and rembember me, as you do with your parents, with this music and this movie. This movie and this music (John Barry) talks about love. Genuin love. Only one's that have experencied once in their life time, will know what I'm talkng about. It does not, unfortunately, happen to all. But, if you have a sun or daughter that plays this music while you're dying or after death, then, you've had experienced true love. Thank you all for sharing your experiences of true love.

So very sorry to hear about your son. But a wonderful piece of music to send him on his way to a better world!
Very emotional. I also
M Liston to it - when sad and also when happy. The animals are so beautiful. A marvelous example of motherhood.
One word to describe this BEAUTIFUL
I think majestic applies also. It could be developed in a hymn of praise, like "How Great Thou Art", by someone of musical talent.

Genius is totally valid in the case of John Barry. An absolute legend and second only to John Williams in my book for best film composer of all time.
I agree, but would add Somewhere in Time also. He is indeed a genius.
