Is it too late? Perhaps no one will see these post. I lived in Africa. I lived as a young girl in Nairobi. And I loved it. This film brought it all back.: the sound, the people, the smell of the landscape.. My mother is gone now. And yet this is what brings her back to me.
It is yet another Year later than when you posted (2024) now. I hope you are well. I am 60 now and live in Australia. I was born in Lusaka, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) in 1963 and lived in Africa for the first 12 years of my life. I remember it well. I love this Movie and the Soundtrack - hard to believe the Movie and Sound Track were first released 39 years ago. My father passed away 11 years ago but my mother is still going strong at 86. God Bless
It is never too late. I never lived in Africa and a pure white person so to speak but that movie and music made me feel I lived there in a former life. As long of the sounds and evn the smell live around you, know that your Mom is still alive and is looking over you. That movie and music mad me feel like I was flying over my homeland where I can find the beginning and the end, peace at last.I always wanted to go there but I limit my travels to see my Mom in France considering she is 97. Treasure the memories, smell, landscape, the people and the music that brings you back to your Mom. She is technically gone but not spiritually. She lives in you through that. Embrace her spirit
I love this music. I've seen the film and read the book so many times, but the best thing was that I was able to visit Karen Blixen's house in Kenya last year. This is my unforgettable experience for eternity.❤❤❤
I lived in South Africa for 48 years & spent most of my holidays driving around various National wildlife parks and taking safari drives with game rangers. John Barry captures the stillness & drama of Africa's magnificent wildlife, the peace of a dawn or watching animals through the fantastical colours caught & refracted by a dusty savannah sunset. Just driving for mile after mile, Africa's wild open spaces drains all stress & worry from you, stills your mind & opens your heart to new vistas, new adventures, one with nature & sharing that special bond between God's created Kingdom with those you love. John Barry's music captures this perfectly.
This soundtrack is bittersweet for me. I cry every time I hear it. It’s been years now. Me and my brother, my only sibling listened to this together. He was diagnosed in 1986 with AIDS. In 1994 he became ill. He wasn’t ready to die. He fought the battle for 2 years. This lovely song was his favorite. It helped to bring him peace and calmed his heart. Michael was a beautiful person who loved life. I look forward to meeting you in heaven with our Lord.

Listening to this brings me tears, each time.. My father loved Africa and lived there almost all his life. I remember the time when we were flying with his little plane over elephants and other animals, with my brother and my mother, in Gaboon... We were happy. Now he is flying with angels and only memories remains. I love you dad, thank you for all.
Thank you for sharing your magical memory, but this music goes beyond Africa it stirs emotions, brings me tears, I don't know why, I think of friends, family, people that I loved and are no longer in this world.
So beautiful. Reading your words painted a picture of what your memory was. Sounds like such a beautiful memory to have. So incredible. God bless your dad.
The flying sequence always reminds me of my Parents. Not because of the plot, but in the fact that the were both instructor pilots who met working together after WWII. They flew open cockpit biplanes and fell in love soaring through the skies, including landing on beaches like in one scene. They would have both turned 100 years old this year. Dad flew with the USAAF in the South Pacific and Mom was a civilian instructor pilot. “The Greatest Generation”. I miss them so.

Every time I listen to this music in my house only 5kms away from Karen Blixen's house and at night I hear the lions roaring at the Nairobi National Park, I say to myself just like Baroness Blixen did many decades ago, yes, this is how it was intended.
I got a chance to co-write with John on the film “Frances.“ The song was cut from the last scene but Sarah Brightman recorded it. If you know the story, you’ll understand why a song with lyric just wouldn’t work.. Out of Africa is my favorite score of his. Besides being a master composer, he was fun, bright and very easy to be around. A gentleman in the best sense of the work. I can’t imagine listening from your house. What an amazing feeling! Namaste

30 years ago my good friend was dying of liver cancer. Every night before bed he and his wife would play this masterful work and fall asleep. That is my blended memory of this music of the angels. Heaven must sound like this.
Amazing isn’t it? How something from so long ago brings back emotions and memories of such intensity. It’s a wonderful theme, perfectly performed. I love it.
@@waitwhat6882 It was life-changing. Everything I've done since has been influenced by my time in Kenya. I went with VSO, the Brit version of Peace Corps.
I never get tired of listening to this soundtrack, it may be about that beautiful country of Africa but for me it conjures up so many beautiful romantic memories and adventures of my past. John Barry was a very gifted composer who could transport you back in time. Love all of his music.
Why can't people listen to music such as this & not be calmed? I believe the world would be a better place if people would just let go & be absorbed in the wonderful, relaxing sounds.
@@danhutson3460 Yes, Dan, I agree with you completely!! I LOVE being "still" with God and relishing and relaxing to beautiful music like John Barry's orchestral suites!! BTW, two of my favourite movie soundtracks from John Barry are "Somewhere in Time" and "Born Free"! Thank you for sharing your wise comment with the rest of the world. People are way too busy these days to actually 'soothe their minds' and just 'listen' to such brilliant music! ✨ 🌈 💛
I'm a teen and if any of my friends saw me listening to this they'd die with laughter, but after visiting Africa this theme simply pulls on my heartstrings, it truly shows the true beauty of Africa in which I cannot put into words. The food. The culture. The simplicity. The people. The Wilde life. It simply is beauty on a level in which I never again will encounter.
One thing I've learned in life is that it's too short to let anybody else make you feel less than! Hey, your friends just don't know what it is to truly 'feel' in life then. Sad.
Lu Hu You went there and had a beautiful, life changing experience, you friends didn’t. You can relive it everytime you hear this great music, they can’t. I know who should be laughing.
If your friends die of laughter from this-then they have not lived....you are living!! Beauty of Africa and it's people portrayed by John Barry to ears that hear.
Barry has an incredible talent to make sweeping themes of romance like this - something to do with multiplying the usual arrangement of instruments for a given chord makes his compositions sound so good.
One of the most beautiful arrangements ever written. It lefts you beyond the clouds, at the same time relieving your body of any chance to breath normally. John Barry Thank you
Grow up in Africa have seen the film several times always brought tears Sydney Pollock 1of the greatest directors best actors there will never be anything close to the calibre of these greats. i was lucky to be friends with a old lady who lived in Kenya colonial times and she new her I used to sit with Maria for hours listening to storys flying in a tigermoth while in làbour
In awe we breath in this most glorious score, learn the brilliance of John Barry and marvel, enthralled. Who else could rival the sweeping masterpiece of Maurice Jarre in Laurence of Arabia. A Passage to India, Doctor Zhivago. This cannot be heard without emotion, it compels tears and must evoke memories of life's deepest experience. Who can not be moved by the hypnotic cadence, sweet passages of beauty which simply blow like warm winds over grassland, in such effortless flow. Ah, and that haunting woodwind . . the sublime tempo and perfectly measured, supremely . . knowing . . pace. The melody, exquisite, perfect, wraps around your soul, cuts through the heart and shatters with a note all defences. The senses soar in glorious moments of ecstacy and the mind seems to lift to a place . . just for a little while, higher. John Barry we thank you. It is art that makes civilisation
‘Out of Africa’ soundtrack will go down in the annals as one of the most soul stirring soundtracks ! Gives me the goosebumps every time I listen & transports me to the farms of Africa - Salutations to John Barry the legend .
Actually, the film shows both, the bad and the evil, the good and the horrid of Africa in those years. The life of Karen Blixen was hard in Africa. For those who ventured in that continent many times a dream became a nightmare.
In reply, I travelled over land from London to Cape Town. Some way through I was at Diane Beach and my host was Dan Trench, I would carrying him home from the pub. One glorious evening although the beach obviously faces East there was an amazing sunset behind me. I was 24 years. At that moment I vowed to myself I would never leave Africa. I'm still here thank God. Never one regret. Out of Africa film score reminds me of that it's marvellous.
@@donburnell1 He's up there with the GREAT film composers. James Horner, John Williams, Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann...without their music, their films would have been lacking that touch of magic.
Love Kenya with a passion and this film and its music stirs memories. Lucky to have visited twice - once at 17 and again at 29 with my new wife - camping both times. The second time, whilst at a campsite near Olorgesailie in the Rift Valley, we heard lions calling to each other in the still of the night. It was the most memorable sound in nature I have ever heard. Somehow, it was reassuring, rather than frightening - whilst the bull elephant at Amboseli, which stayed the night outside our tent, was a little less comforting.
The most beautiful composition i have even heard, the violins in the intro and the richness of the horns, so soft, i feel like i am hovering over the motherland, my eyes as wide as a childs viewing the world for the first time. Barry has this way of taking you on his journey, sudtly and your flyin, what aa amazing composer he knows how to tap the emotional well and bleed it dry.😭😲💟
This film won 7 academy awards. Including John Barry for musical score and Meryl Streep best actress. John Barry’s music elevates all of his motion pictures by capturing the essence for the audience to enjoy.
I first listened to this piece of music when I was the ripe age of 13 in music class. It brought a tear to my eye and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Still to this day 6 years later it had the same effect on me bringing back good memories and members of family who've passed. I love this piece of music, it has more meaning than anyone can understand.
My mother was listening to this music with tears in her eyes . This music has something to soothe and warms . The music purifies the passions of persons with a wonderful masterpiece of melancholy and nostalgia

I lived in Beautiful Africa and married a Beautiful African woman this music so powerful feels me with wonderful and many many memories
I lived in South Africa a long time ago, I was a young man on an adventure, fond memories and a few tears. beautiful music and a beautiful land
Sounds like the adventures of a lifetime. Glad you enjoyed the experience and that your life has been enhanced by it.
John Barry is literally the soul of God .I will never understand how a man can create so such beautiful melody
🎉❤
John Barry did give us beauty above and beyond. ❤
He was an incredibly gifted composer, but you greatly overestimate him by calling him literally "the soul of God."
🎉Beautiful words. 🎉 God bless you.

@@lorichandler4845 That scene is so awesome, it takes my breath away! My goodness, what a love story! Robert Redford was so incredibly handsome! One of my all time favorite movies! 😘😘👍💞

I've never heard a John Barry soundtrack that I didn't like. It's all so flowing & relaxing. Thank you Mr. Barry & RIP!
A Masterpiece. No matter how many times one hears this it always communicates peace and Resolve. At least for this Fan.
...and for this one too.
This fan too
30 years ago my good friend was dying of liver cancer. Every night before bed he and his wife would play this masterful work and fall asleep. That is my blended memory of this music of the angels. Heaven must sound like this.
Yes it does. I never want to be disturbed while I am listening .
This movie came out while I was working in Kenya. It's inextricably linked to that experience and this sound track can still make me cry.
Amazing isn’t it? How something from so long ago brings back emotions and memories of such intensity. It’s a wonderful theme, perfectly performed. I love it.
You are so lucky! I’d love to work in and experience Africa ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Beautiful!!!!
@@waitwhat6882 It was life-changing. Everything I've done since has been influenced by my time in Kenya. I went with VSO, the Brit version of Peace Corps.
The tea of kenya is very great too, maked me healthy
I never get tired of listening to this soundtrack, it may be about that beautiful country of Africa but for me it conjures up so many beautiful romantic memories and adventures of my past. John Barry was a very gifted composer who could transport you back in time. Love all of his music.
Agree. He was a genius, sadly not as appreciated as he should have been.
Every time I hear this, it touches the depth of my soul.
I could listen to it non stop. Love it! Great
Great John Barry
The most beautiful music I will ever listen too.
Africa is a continent not a country.
John Barry + Ennio Morricone = the best !
As perfect a blend of images and music as was ever created. Here for it yet again in 2024!!
Why can't people listen to music such as this & not be calmed? I believe the world would be a better place if people would just let go & be absorbed in the wonderful, relaxing sounds.
@@danhutson3460 Yes, Dan, I agree with you completely!! I LOVE being "still" with God
and relishing and relaxing to beautiful music like John Barry's orchestral suites!! BTW, two
of my favourite movie soundtracks from John Barry are "Somewhere in Time" and "Born Free"!
Thank you for sharing your wise comment with the rest of the world. People are way too busy
these days to actually 'soothe their minds' and just 'listen' to such brilliant music!
Sad.
Lu Hu You should laugh at them for not appreciating beautiful music
Lu Hu You went there and had a beautiful, life changing experience, you friends didn’t. You can relive it everytime you hear this great music, they can’t. I know who should be laughing.
So impressed with your gratitude and love for Jehovah God’s magnificent creation’s. Which he made just for mankind!
If your friends die of laughter from this-then they have not lived....you are living!! Beauty of Africa and it's people portrayed by John Barry to ears that hear.
The best movie ever ! I really love it ! It reminds me my road-trip round Africa (2009 & 2010) and nice reminders of Kenya.
It is truly one of the absolutely most beautiful themes ever written.
If you have never watched the movie you will never have the full maturity of this beautiful music.
@@ederion65 Having seen it several times the movie and the score is equally wonderful.
Barry has an incredible talent to make sweeping themes of romance like this - something to do with multiplying the usual arrangement of instruments for a given chord makes his compositions sound so good.
@@ederion65 I have lost count of how many times I have seen the movie. I love the music and the movie.
Not everyone appreciates a good movie theme........💗
I don't now how often I heard this soundtrack. It is a masterpiece of all time
So brilliantly beautiful. I never get tired of listening to this soundtrack. It’s my all time favourite.
It is !!A masterpiece !

Exactly, what l feel, dear Christoph....

Arguably one of the greatest film soundtracks ever written.
No argument from me.

This music is like that deep breathe you feel when you're in love and you hope it never ends.
Perfect… the longing of your heart for love
Beautiful and very sad movie.❤️💔
John Barry scored some of the most memorable soundtrack music
One of the most beautiful arrangements ever written. It lefts you beyond the clouds, at the same time relieving your body of any chance to breath normally. John Barry Thank you
Jim so beautifully said ❤
Celestially alluring, transcending time and space. This is musical gourmet just priceless
A beautiful piece of music perfect for the Out of Africa film.Always leaves me in tears every time I hear it!!!
Oh yes me too and same with the music of Born Free
One of my favourite movies and the music evokes such beautiful memories
Maravilloso ❤
This music reminds me of my travel across the Kenyan savannah by train from Mombasa to Nairobi in 1959, superb.
Was it the school train or the boat train?
‘Out of Africa’ soundtrack will go down in the annals as one of the most soul stirring soundtracks ! Gives me the goosebumps every time I listen & transports me to the farms of Africa - Salutations to John Barry the legend .
The funny thing is that these foreign people make the place look better than it is.
You do realise that if you live in Africa its very difficult
Actually, the film shows both, the bad and the evil, the good and the horrid of Africa in those years. The life of Karen Blixen was hard in Africa. For those who ventured in that continent many times a dream became a nightmare.
😂❤
Me too!!!
Robin & Marian was better :)
Won an Academy Award for this soundtrack. VERY well deserved. This, Chaplin, Somewhere in Time, Dances with Wolves - gorgeous soundtracks.
Don’t forget Born Free and even his Bond scores
and of course Hanover Street
Ce film extraordinaire donne l'envie de vivre histoire de vie fabuleuse amour de liberté en avant
Wow, Angel. Thanks for mentioning the other scores along with this one. You are absolutely correct! Dr. Don
@@donburnell1 He's up there with the GREAT film composers. James Horner, John Williams, Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann...without their music, their films would have been lacking that touch of magic.
This music captured my soul . John Barry is one of the greatest composers of all times!
Indeed a great composer for eternity
Love Kenya with a passion and this film and its music stirs memories. Lucky to have visited twice - once at 17 and again at 29 with my new wife - camping both times. The second time, whilst at a campsite near Olorgesailie in the Rift Valley, we heard lions calling to each other in the still of the night. It was the most memorable sound in nature I have ever heard. Somehow, it was reassuring, rather than frightening - whilst the bull elephant at Amboseli, which stayed the night outside our tent, was a little less comforting.
Reminds me of the wonderful years I spent in Africa. Beautiful!
This film and music breaks my heart and brings such joy, all at the same time. Robert Redford and Meryl Streep, just magical.
There are certain pieces of music that brings tears to your eyes because of their beauty ..this is one of those pieces of music 💕
Yeah this and Somewhere in Time
Jackie,
My Heart ❤ goes out to you at the Loss of your Beloved Brother.
Sending you Blessings and a Hug x
Australia 2 November 2023
This film won 7 academy awards. Including John Barry for musical score and Meryl Streep best actress. John Barry’s music elevates all of his motion pictures by capturing the essence for the audience to enjoy.
I have been living in those marvelous places among those peoples!!!! So many memories!!!
I think this is one the most beautifully romantic scores ever written for a motion picture.
Beautiful
Amazing 💗
My mother's favourite too she passed away for 4 months i missed her when i heard this April 2020

In the neighborhood of Tokyo , most of the cherry blossoms in full bloom have been scattered ,
After having been scattered , there are the lacking and pensive atmosphere .
The petals which are scattered , and fell cover all over the area and dyes it into pink .
By the way

Tokyo has more than 100 infected people every day .

I remember when my friend and I went to see this movie when it first came out we were a few minutes late and walked into the theater just as the music started and the beauty of it just took my breath away. I will never forget that moment.
When I was young, probably around 3 years old, my mom always listened to this song all the time and every time she played it, it used to make me cry. Now that I'm 18 I came back to listen to it again, and I don't know how my eyes are sweating for no reason :)
