Bizet: Carmen - Prélude to Act I (Papalin Recorder Ensemble)
The Carmen Suites are two suites of orchestral music drawn from the music of Georges Bizet's 1875 opera Carmen and compiled posthumously by his friend Ernest Guiraud. They adhere very closely to Bizet's orchestration. Guiraud also wrote the recitatives for Carmen, and compiled the second of the two suites from Bizet's L'Arlésienne incidental music. Suite No. 1 was published c. 1882.

@@takyno You know what that is? That's the original theatrical version to be used with the play Peer Gynt. There are three lines of dialog that are repeated after each orchestral hit. Grieg changed that in the orchestral suite he prepared later. I don't know how or why the orchesta was using the original score (minus the chorus and speaking parts). I only know this because I have the complete incidental music on CD.

The saxophones being at the forefront of the mixing seems to be deliberate. Which is very nice, since the original sweet jazz songs from the 1930s had this curious characteristic. Soothing saxophone vibrattos galore with mid to slow tempos (although the vibrattos here are much more subtle, if there are any), and it's actually uncommon for someone to reproduce that very specific trait of the sweet jazz era nowadays.
